--- http://schedule.gdceurope.com/session/5322 ---
Priceless GDC Europe organizers have unveiled the full lineup for the show's Community Management Summit, featuring a keynote from industry veteran Gordon Walton on creating an online "code of conduct," SOE on controlling player backlash, and EVE Online developer CCP on learning from Jurassic Park.
Taking place Monday through Wednesday, August 15-17, 2011 at the Cologne Congress-Centrum Ost, alongside the major gamescom trade show, GDC Europe 2011 will again provide the essential pan-European perspective of game development and business trends.

There seems to be a gap between "talking about" and "applying".

I wonder if Hilmar Petursson remembers his quote

What kind of stupid bull**** is this?! Learning how to control a community using JURASSIC PARK as an example? It's disrespectful because obviously us, the users, are dinosaurs on the lose when apparently we're supposed to be caged and contained.

Valerie Massey (CCP Pann) clearly finds dissatisfied customers amusing.

I've worked in several different companies but most of the time it was a customer service position. Customers can indeed be rather rude or just dumb at times, but never have I ever degraded them to something less than human.
How unprofessional, even if she is trying to approach the topic with humor. Still very unprofessional.

Guys... have you ever been to one of these seminars? Its better to watch paint dry. The topic was raised in such a way that people would be interesting in what she has to say.
This was also brought up and announced before the incarna was released...
Not to mention that much of what happened isn't her fault, and while there are a lot of things not going right, there are probably a lot of things shes trying to get CCP to do, and they won't allow her to do her job due to many facts we don't know.
Please... stop personally attacks of CCP employees and attack policies instead.

We are currently rampaging in the park attacking the staff one at a time and if given the chance we would most likely eat them too.

Quote: - In a lecture dubbed, "What Can You Do When Your Social or MMO Game Community Revolt Against You?," Alexis Bonte of eRepublik Labs will describe the ways in which player communities can revolt against developers, using examples including negative review spam, active trolling, and player strikes. Bonte will also explain how to fix a number of these problems, noting, "It's better to be loved, but many never will, so you need to be feared too."
We are so screwed if CCP learns from this person. |

They can be boring, but you could approach it without degrading your customers. It's just another bad choice in decision making. Never is it good to do anything to your customers other than praise them and acknowledge you appreciate their business.
