Not really. That game reminds me of something still in Alpha stage. Graphics = / = good game, but that combined with the UI, it borders on being unplayable.

It's not bad, but it seems like it rips off EVE a little too much. I don't like the non-instanced missions either (fighting over the same rats to complete your mission.) I DO like the idea of getting in on a game on the ground floor. I give it a lukewarm recommendation. It's worth a try.

It's been eight years though, I guess I just expect more out of a game. If they add PTW items, I'll join the exodus. Though only until TOR.

I Loled with this quote from Perpetum Forums:

Quote: I would prefer some people to take this time and realize that Perpetuum is not EVE OnlineÖ's vacation resort.
It's amazing how childish, irresponsible and whimsical some people are. In my humble opinion, EVE is better without those kind of angry kids and I hope they wouldn't come back to EVE or to any game community I'd ever join. The sad think is that most of them will come back with their tail between their legs.

actually, the influx of new players has highlighted a bug in their server side relay code, and are working to fix it.
i dl'ed it to check it out, kinda like EVE-lite with robots. hasn't been out long so it's a bit buggy and the player base is tiny, but not too bad.
one thing i noticed, has automatic crash reporting.

Probably a long time, if you expect a "ohnoes" response. Among all the topics in all the forums, why on earth should they respond to this? That ome people discover a new game and play Perpetuum in addition to EVE, as well as a ridiculously minuscule minority leaving EVE for Perpetuum, is hardly something CCP need worry about.

Edited by: Apollo Gabriel on 27/06/2011 00:55:39 within 5 minutes I was welcomed by a GM and told if I had any questions to let him know, he also kept a private chat open with me. The game looks interesting, but it was hard to figure out the scope of it, and if there were 0.0 esq regions, there seems to be a huge eve component rip off, however they managed to make mining LESS interactive than eve :(
honestly even if 5% of the eve refugees stay, that's a win for them.

Perpetuum update - hotfix will be deployed in approx 12 hours, hopefully this will fix the server cap.
if what they said is true and the server is ticking at about 5% with 500 players, then the estimated cap is around 10k players.
give them 12 hours, and try again.
FYI the new perpetuum corp NEX (lol) is now the biggest corp in perpetuum. Wonder how long it hold together before it falls apart into minor fragments?

I tried to play it for like 10 minutes but it's just such an alien experience... maybe I'm getting too old but I don't have the time or patience or brainpower capabilities to re-learn a whole new MMO even if it is very eerily similar to Eve. I prefer World of Tank's approach of instant battles and incredibly simplistic research and equipping system, was able to learn it in 10 minutes without reading any guide or tutorial.

It's just good customer service, they've not got to the point where they think they are more important than the customers.
Nice to be in a game where they actually appreciate their customers, so don't knock it.
I would recommend Eve but alas we don't have that type of service here at the moment, they've forgotten how to treat customers.

No. Good customer service is being met with a smile, being listened to and rapid responses to inquiries. Unless we're talking about an automated generic greeting messages, welcoming each new customer individually is a waste of time, and if they have that many GMs per player, they should probably reconsider where they are hiring people.
While it might work in the very early days of a game, don't be delusional - devs can't keep it on a personal level if a game grows substantially. Having a close relationship between customers and devs/GMs happens for most small games, but it won't stay that way.

So?, at a few thousand people a 12 (or was it 18?) man dev team will mean it's pretty successful for them.
Not to mention, that was when eve was at it's best..
And tbqh, I think having GM's greet new players and help them with any issues is a great use of resources, it made me decide to get a subscription (including the fact that the game is good), and whenever any of us have had any issues etc, we are *immediately* being helped. Instead of you know wait 1-2 weeks for a non working answer....

I have played Perpetuum.
The communication between the Devs and the community is really top notch.
Whilst the game has had some minor issues, they really seem to be focussing on making sure features work and enhance what players want to do.
Rather than saying to players 'this is what you will be doing' (ie the current EVE online model), they seem to be working with players.
Plus the game is cheaper per month.
And you will be able to have pink robots.

Quote: Just started yesterday, the game has great potential =] My first impressions doing the tutorial was great except for the speed - from what I've read this isn't a new topic. Possible solutions - Some kind of not-in-combat use boooster (turbo, antigrav, booster rockets) that you could train to use. This would function as a mount as in WOW etc, or Afterburner / Microwarpdrive as in EVE. Also, one thing that would, in my opinion, should be in the game is the availability to 'jump' or 'fall' down steeper areas rather than artificially elongating the game just to get to a mission waypoint. The game is meant to be fun right? Taking 10 minutes to walk oh so slowly to your destination just to pop a bad guy then 10 minutes walk back is just way too painful... No fun.
Poor perpetuum. They have no idea what they're in for.

Wait a minute. If Perpetuum is built on the old Eve code, wouldn't that meant that the game is operating with "stolen property"? Don't forget that CCP is fully aware that a prior version of their Eve client was reverse engineered and leaked to the public or to its competitors. CCP could have a case against Perpetuum if they had enough evidence (which doesn't seem so hard considering the similarities). But then again, Apple wasn't able to stop Microsoft from continuing to sell its Windows OS (even though it was based off of an old Macintosh OS source code - which was stolen by Bill Gates).

I signed up an account with perpetuum online. I checked out the gameplay on youtube and I have yet to download the client. Can someone here offer a fair opinion of the game.
I also checked out Infinity but the latest news out their website is no beta in 2011 and its looking like 2012 will be no beta as well.

Perpetuum, only 7 months old is a very impressive single sharded sandbox mmo. Very much like EVE in many ways. I find the combat is much better because what you SEE outside of the UI matters unlike EVE.
In perpetuum you can hide behind obsticles to avoid fire, different types of weapons work better on different terrain. Different robots can travel up steeper slopes. You keep your own range, not set an orbit or keep at range. The combat is much more player skill based and less ingame skill and ship quality or type like eve.
Being a better skilled player actually matters in Perpetuum, unlike eve where the player with the better understanding of mechanics wins.
At the same time as combat is vastly improved from EVE, almost all EVE's systems are also featured in Perpetuum.

Seems like it has considerable depth. The UI is a bit hard for me to manage, but then again, I am still a nubb. I like the interaction with topography.
It is definitely worth downloading the client and checking it out on trial. I think that some patience will be required, as it has complexity comparable to EvE, but not much in the way of tutorials/guidance.
ATM I am trying to keep in mind how disoriented I felt when I started EvE. Helps quite a bit. Oh, the Dev interaction is quite refreshing. There is a recent podcast geared toward the EvE influx that gave a nice feel for the depth of the game.

Enjoyed that little read.

Maybe in 2 or 3 years it will have the depth worth of EVE, until then its only for the those willing to put up with a very raw game.
CCP has nothing to worry about with that game.

Because perpetuum is planning on introducing an ingame cash shop, which allows you to customise your avatar/robot.
Hey, now that sounds like clearly communicated intent, which begs the question why you find it funny? It isn't absurd, like you probably find it with your tiny mind, but a perfect highlight of what is wrong in CCP right now.
Also, the way that you describe what will be made available doesn't sound like gameplay affecting items. I have no direct knowledge of the other game myself, so this is simple reading comprehension at work. To sum up, describe how it's funny please. - His name was John Turbefield!

THIS ^
My coworker who apparently will be unsubbing has tried it out, and this is what stood out to him the most. Whomever commented above that said this was 'needy' is just mad. Lord knows while CCP has been at this for a while and taken a typical customer service attitude that I'd expect from a minimum wage employee working in a retail or fast food store, be it internet pixels or real life goods/services, customer service is important. The lack of a sincere apology, not giving a flying **** about its customers/subscribers, and gagging or banning people speaking their minds, is only strengthening the wall between CCP and its player base.
All the trolling in this thead is, in all honesty, fear. Those trolling are getting worried. I wonder if CCP is getting worried? Probably not yet. I know if they do financials on a quarterly based report, they'll certainly be worried at next quarter's report. A dose of humility and perhaps a return to customer service will do the trick. Question is, will CCP take heed? I know Perpetuum has taken heed, LOL. Best business model ever. Wait for the other guy to completely **** off all his regular customers, then offer them your stuff instead.

Actually the have a player cap of 500 active at the moment due to overloading issues. They've asked the player base to stop idling alts and if they have to sit around chatting in eve channel all day to do it on their irc.

Which is a temporary problem with the code that the devs are working around the clock on and will fix soon.
Their server loads are actually only 1-5% even with all the new players.

Tested this game.. i mean when i saw EVE i was in love.. i had my subscription before the end of the trial. This game isn't anything close to eve.. If you think you will find a new game like EVE your going to the wrong place.. maybe abit of vacation while you cool off maybe.. i quit playing after couple of hours.. it was damn boring game..
EVE might have its good and bad.. but when it comes around.. there is nothing like EVE out there.. "Carebear gone bad" |

The game can be more fun since you physically control your robot with WASD. EWAR is more integrated from the ground up (as opposed to eve which sorta tagged it on and isnt used as much)
It is very much like an early Eve Online with a small dev team that you can actually talk to in-game. But it was suffering from a lack of players since they havnt really done much marketing yet. The player graph though, has indeed doubled in the past few days.
skill points accumulated and then you spend them, unlike eve where you train a skill.
It does have the potential to be as popular as eve, so worth grabbing an account.

Originally by: Flamespar I have played Perpetuum.
I played in closed beta and I can say that the only reason this is the situation is that the game is new and they have a miniscule number of subs as compared with EVE.
If they did not do the above they would be shooting themselves in the foot.
I do not agree with the road that CCP is taking, but I do not think the apocalypse is setting in on EVE at this point. That being said this could be the push that gets Perpetuum of and running. It will be good to get back in and see how things are going in about a week when I get internet back at the place.
