People who don't play online games often ask me "omg how could you spend 15 dollars a month of a video game... i mean i spent 60 dollars on cal of duty and i can play it for the rest of my life"
I then sigh and say "I'm willing to bet you spend over 100 a month on premium cable to watch a movie once or twice a week - that you prob spend another 5-10 bucks on"
is 15 a month worth it for me - yes i get a lot of entertainment for my 15 bucks. Sig removed, inappropriate content. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] - Saint |

Under ú200? That's less than a night out on the razz in Oslo.
Depends on how you see things. Even though I no longer live in the Land of a Thousand Homes (Norway) I pay about ú15 a month for this game here in the UK. Now, I don't know about you but if I went out for a good evening drinking the local Welsh sheep dip I would pay a lot more than that.
So, if playing Eve for just one night a month rather than going out is cheaper and one stays in to play Eve then, yes, it is value for money.
Then again, perception of value is down to the individual as all my racing chums know.

This.
Eve, and video gaming, in general is a cheap way of entertaining yourself. If you weren't playing eve, what would you be doing instead? And how much would that cost?

Entirely depends on what you enjoy.
Stuff like watered beer and movie tickets are indeed way overpriced for their actualy content value. Good thing is that both of these can be had for cheaper price instead of going through "content provider" middlehand.
But lets compare EVE to other games. For price of EVE you can for buy quite a few single/multiplayer games that don`t have recurring costs. For 131 euros you could pick up digital distribution games ranging anywhere from 50 euros for brand new ones to discounted games for 5. I`d say EVE can be better than buying 3 full priced games but is awful if buyer is smart and buys from sales. Good example is ongoing Steam sales.
How about other hobbies? Hard to quantify as many of these have auxiliary benefits of making real-life contacts (most in EVE end up being virtual with few exceptions) and healthy outdoors/indoors physical workout. Personally I feel better about spending say 300 for my downhill skiing equipment and tickets than buying years worth of sub for EVE.

Nope. Not worth it. But if you play the game long enough, it should finance itself.

PS: What's with the *3 by the way, you hate Eve/CCP so much that you have three accounts?
The movie ticket comparison started being pushed by the video game industry years ago (to justify price increases). (You hear this in the press, morning talk shows, radio shows, all very transparent to the non sheep of the world.) You added beer. So I am left with wondering, are you an actual CCP customer? Because, why would one make such a post? You sound more like marketing.
If I can play other games for an unlimited number of years after I pay $50 for them (max), then I should make a comparison to EVE that includes a number of years. I picked 3.
The surest way to get company marketing to start posting in threads is to put a "$" in the subject line.
thanks for playing
OMG you are an idiot. Please find it not worth it and cancel asap. Eve would be better for it.

Please be nice, folks, someone who has a character name of "dicen3" is probably still very young. We should support young players who join EvE and not make fun of them.
I try to teach my kids the value of money. Not always easy but we have to start somewhere.

You could spend $179.40 on a prostitute, only get a few minutes of fun. Pay $179.40 on Eve, and you get a whole year worth of fun, or whatever, depending on your game play style. Personally, I think that's worth it.

For example what does it cost to go to the movies these days? Then throw on top that 3D BS and then add some candy or popcorn. You already have a couple months of EVE right there before you even start paying for your date's movie lol.
Hell, where I live you could go out and get a single drink at a restaurant that costs as much as a month of EVE and doesn't even get you buzzed.

Good for you, personally playing Civ4 + Mods to this day and dig up old RPGs when the urge hits. But there are not enough games with the replay value to make that argumentation remotely true .. even the best RPGs become kind of 'meh' to me after 200hrs (Civ4 is probably close to 5k hrs though )

a. Your infrastructure costs are not nearly $46,482,140 per year. b. You are not spending this revenue on EVE anyway. It is all going to Dust and WOD. In fact the majority of it is, as you are up to your eye balls in debt.
thanks for playing
Wow, I wish I had all of the omnipotent internal knowledge of CCP's innerworkings and finances to be able to make statements like point 'a.' and 'b.' like you did right there.
Teach me, oh great wise one, the ways of your learnings, for I lack the inside knowledge that you have!
Seriously people, a good deal of this rage is based off of assumptions and conjecture, especially when it comes to what CCP does and does not do with it's money. Besides, if you don't like what CCP does with that cash, BIOMASS, UNSUB and LEAVE FFS! Nobody is forcing you to stay! If leaving is what would make you happy, then that's what I want. If staying makes you happy, then that's cool with me too. Besides, you wouldn't continue to eat at a restaurant if you felt their food was crappy, right? Why do the same with Eve if you really felt this way? It makes no God damned sense.

The sub for this game is well worth it and is cheap if I consider the enjoyment I get out of it

And I still play Unreal Tournament, which I bought in the 90s, and can be had for under $10. So really, how can anyone be expected to pay more than $0.10 / month for EVE? That about right?
But I'm more curious how CCP hid their fees from you. You subscribed without knowing the rates? You're unhappy with the value of the game compared to what it costs, but pay anyway? You're unhappy with the game, but can't leave it unless some strangers agree with you first? The game is clearly not worth it, but you feel a moral obligation to inform those too dim on how to value their own time and money what they should think about it?
Since you're clearly not a forum troll, there's a reason for this time and emotional investment on your part that I'm just not comprehending.

I have spent 54$ in month on cigarettes before I dropped this ****. Where I live 1 pack of Marlboro cost like 1,8$, that is 54$ in month and 648$ in a year. Was it worth spent money and health?
OP don't count the price of subscription-based MMO. If this too much for you - just leave to f2p game and spend even more money there.

$179.40/year * 3 = $528.20 over 3 years.
And CCP wants more of our money? What are they smoking in Iceland?
I still play games I bought over 3 years ago, that I payed only $50 for.
When you say "we" I assume you mean "I". Not sure why you can't trust them anymore. All of their official statements have been consistent and honest.
You do realise the Eve requires this thing called a "server", quite a big one in fact (or a lot of them, depending on how you visualise it). Servers are not free or cheap to run. In exchange for your $528.2 over three years, CCP maintained and allowed you access to their servers. It's a fair exchange, if at any point you don't feel your getting your moneys worth, stop paying.

True, but he brings up a valid point. People tend to assume (or so it seems) that all sub cost go to the game (or games) and thats it. Here are some of the things CCP has to pay for:
-Overhead cost: -Monthly Rent -Ulilities (A/C, Heat, Water etc.) -Building Insurance -Taxes -Employee Cost -Employee Salaries including any Overtime worked (at least in the US - dont know about Iceland) -Employee Insurance -Employee Benefits (Medical, Dental, Vision), Stock Options, raises etc -Employee Tax (EIN for the US office) -Vendor Costs -Equipment cost and maintenance (Printers, Fax Machines, etc) -Server Costs and maintenance (In any Internet based business, this will be a significant cost to business) -Administrative Cost -Legal Costs -Misc Costs (CSM Meetings, EVE Fanfest, Allaince Tournament etc) -Telecommunications costs
Im sure there are more, but these are just some of the things that I can think of. Once these are paid, THEN and ONLY then can CCP pump money into their Internet Spaceship game or Vampire game. This is how it works in the real business world, or at least in the business world that I am apart of.
