At this moment in time there is no reason for anybody to upgrade just to play Eve. The spaceship part of the game still works. It's far more likely that CCP will introduce a 'CQ lite' for people having hardware issues or a better option than 'The door' for people who want to disable it.
CCP know that the spaceship part of the game is much more important than the shiney room. All CCP have to do is find a way for players to be able to run the CQ and the space ships on the same machine.
Imo CCP would rather turn down the graphics on the CQ than tell everyone they need to upgrade their machines. |

You seem to think you know something about marketing, but you indeed don't.
There's no "THE" smart way to sell any product. There are a ton of smart ways.
Catering the the mass market is no more smart than making a niche product, it only depends on how you approach and build your niche. Mind you, EVE *already* is a niche product.
If CCP followed your narrow-minded philosophy, they'd make this game super easy, with only consensual PvP, no real death penalty and so forth. A nice, cuddly mass-market WoW in space.
Mind you, that would of course fail, as the MMORPG mass market is already saturated. Seen any wow clones have any degree of success lately?
Quote: If you think the current rendering engine for CQ is efficient, well, you don't know anything about graphics. They talked about 'real time AO' which is really worth the cp how, exactly? When baked in AO is just as convincing. It's nothing more than a useless gimmick which is not needed to make the game fun. I've heard the same thing from countless idiots who believe a game has to be beautiful to be fun. I'll just use minecraft again as an example. Since your fixation with statistics is so prominent, are you aware of the sales statistics for that game?
You seem to think that since one game has been successful with crappy graphics, every game should have crappy graphics. Minecraft has been successful for one prominent reason. It launched without ANY competition in it's niche market. EVE is not in the same situation, so the comparison doesn't apply.

If you'd like to discuss pvp join a corp and we'll war dec you and you can tell me about your warm fuzzy experience afterward..
I don't think a game should have crappy graphics, I said it doesn't have to have garbage in order to satisfy people who think they know anything about graphics and try to justify the use of horribly inefficient pipeline, simply because it has to be shiny or you bought your power pc for no reason.
It's ok, I know you're mad, but try to read and make sense next time, and don't be such a hypocrite. You accuse me of assuption when you assume I don't know better than you when it comes to software development.
In case you fail to grasp the simple concept, games are in fact designed to be fun, not tech demos.
""fun" is not the only element to the enjoyment of a game." Priceless. I suppose you know better than me regarding this too. How many games have you shipped?

It doesn't have to be, no. Lots of ugly games are fun. BUT, many people (myself included) would list the beauty of New Eden as one of the BIG reasons they fell in love with it. ______________________

Aside from the fact that everyone can claim to be a game developer on the internet, that's why game developers don't normally handle the marketing of their games. They know squat about it.
Quote: and everyone needs to agree with him or he'll cry about it.
Actually you're the one that seems to be getting bent quite out of place because someone disagrees with you. Looks like someone appreciating this game or it's developer makes you cry :D
Quote: If you even read anything I said, I'm talking about running requirements when I mention those overloaded graphics, not changes in the gameplay.
graphics and gameplay are both factors that contribute in determining a game's target.
Quote: I'm talking about useless graphical gimmicks that are invisible to the average idiot like you and thus aren't worth 5 years of development.
You're such a competent game developer if you think that all they did in five years was that. Wow, you sure are "in the knowz" :D
Quote: If you'd like to discuss pvp join a corp and we'll war dec you and you can tell me about your warm fuzzy experience afterward..
translation from the above: "don't counter my weak arguments on the forum or I'll keel you in game!!!" how very mature :D
Quote: I don't think a game should have crappy graphics, I said it doesn't have to have garbage in order to satisfy people who think they know anything about graphics and try to justify the use of horribly inefficient pipeline, simply because it has to be shiny or you bought your power pc for no reason.
Garbage is very subjective. In this case what you call "garbage" is the first step towards making the game more immersive. The fact that you like it or not is inconsequential. MMORPGs are also about immersion, and EVE was lacking in that department.
Quote: It's ok, I know you're mad, but try to read and make sense next time, and don't be such a hypocrite. You accuse me of assuption when you assume I don't know better than you when it comes to software development.
You sure don't know better when it comes to marketing, and you're the one that's quite mad because someone appreciates this game, as your repeated posts in this thread clearly demonstrate.
There's a reason why game developers do what their marketing execs tell them to do. And that's normally because most game developers are extremely narrow minded and set in their ways, as you clearly demonstrate (if your claim is even true).
Quote: In case you fail to grasp the simple concept, games are in fact designed to be fun, not tech demos.
Actually games are designed to be a lot of things nowadays, to be fun, but also to impress graphically, to immerse, to tell a story and so forth. You're a tad behind the times it seems.
Quote: ""fun" is not the only element to the enjoyment of a game." Priceless. I suppose you know better than me regarding this too. How many games have you shipped?
how many games have you sold?

I don't have to prove anything to you, but I can however troll you until your fingers fall off, apparently. And yes, in fact game developers do play a role in marketing- there's this guy called a producer, who keeps us on the same page as our clients' intentions for marketing, but you should already know that being an expert on everything :D
Did you take classes on your parent's basement apartment power pc or did the ponies whisper in your ear?

Because I'm happy with my current job(s). Also, I prefer sunny Italy to Iceland.
Maybe I shouldn't tell you where I live though, you may try to come and (try to) beat me in real life because I like a game you don't like and didn't let you win at forums

Quote: Tell that to the thousands who have burnt out cards and/or run EVE at 10 fps while other games run without a hitch. You are ignoring the pure lack of attention to the GAME which can't surprise me if you've been gone for so long. Were you ever an active player?

He is a 'contributing writer' for a gaming websight. I take it they don't let him review any games.

I'm a modeler, I've been using 3DStudioMax for 10 years, I've shipped 6 games for 2 companies, was a lead level designer, and I took PC 101 when you were in diapers.. Enjoy your ponies people, arguing logic with a bunch of pre-pubescent tit-sucklers is not my idea of a good way to spend time.. But You probably own one of my games already, so I'm happy with that, you paid part of my salary, lol
