If there is flat growth because people left...
Then profits for CCP are up because NEX items are selling...
And CPU load is down because bots have been banned.
I get less lag, a better economy, and CCP get enough money to keep everything running.
I think a lot of people are just bitter because they want Dust and WoD to fail so they can say "told you so".
I doubt that will happen.
I just highlighted the parts where you are wrong. First there is no "If", there is no growth. Second if profits were up there would be no need for the plex sale. Third, people have been abusing the bot reporting feature. So in actuality all we're getting is less lag since there is less people on, a stagnate economy, and CCP try to find enough money to keep everything running

Edited by: Trolls Troll on 03/09/2011 20:42:52 Where does it say profits for CCP are up over the last 3 months?
Your really suggesting that the amount of nex items sold outweigh the levelling of growth over the last 2 years (2.4% is good growth over 30 months? LOL), and dropping of subs over the last three months? The nex store is a horrible failure, and you continue to troll people that bash ccp by making up poor theories about how well ccp are doing (subs are down means profits are up? wtf?????? 1 monocle is 4 plex? so 1000 monocles= 4000 plex. thats only 1000 subs for 4 months to make that up. Oh and add on the actual cost of developing the whole nex store. Yep ccp are raking it in.)
Your a misinformed troll and a bad one at that, go read the you owe ccp nothing thread before you come and defend them.

You're quite the armchair theory-crafting-economist there. Also using arbitrary numbers to prove that I am "trolling" is classy. OFC people that fabricate information have 'more' of it.

Explain this to me: Why should I read an article written by Goons? These guys can barely fly their internet spaceships, let alone string words together to form any sort of coherent sentence.
So I ask, why read this tired, e-virgin rage?

Actually I can. The flat growth is over 2 and 1/2 years. Just for Incarna it's an actually over all loss of players. Furthermore if they were really getting enough additional income from the NEX then they wouldn't have a plex sale. So a negative growth since Incarna + an unknown but likely poor income from NEX. Doesn't sound like Increased revenue to me.

As far as Nex goes, it has to of been an enormous failure. The cost of developing / ongoing development of it, must far outstrip any monies gained from it. Also on the rare ocassion that you do see someone wearing this garbage, it isHIGHLY improbable that they actually bought said item with a credit card as an additional purchase. More than likely they just turned in some excess ISK for the item. ISK they can easily recoup by any number of simple means.

Not really. Two different games two different player bases.
Though I'm more curious on what your sources are for the 900k drop in WoW subs.
Not like it really matters though, because recently WoW went f2p for people below a certain level. So you would assume that some of that loss of subs where people switching to the f2p until reaching the level in which they have to resub. So not really a complete loss.

Not to sound like someone who used to play WoW (But who totally did back when I was young and naive) but you do know that the period of leveling where WoW is F2P is a week at most? And a day if you know what you're doing?

Depending on what you want to do possibly. Some will take the time to level multiple characters to max f2p level, use them as low level BG(and arena?) alts, or try and grind low level instances. So pretty much milking the f2p as long as possible. Not saying its the main cause but could account for many of the drop accounts. Though I still doubt the OPs claim until he can provide some sort of source.

Activision Blizzard Inc. Q2 2011 Earnings Call
you can find the recording on Blizzard's website.
Quote: On the World of Warcraft side, we experienced a slight decrease in subscribership during Q2, closing the quarter at 11.1 million subscribers worldwide. Since that time, we launched Cataclysm in China and have seen an increase in concurrency within the region. WeÆre very excited to have delivered the latest expansion to Chinese players, and we look forward to working with our local partner NetEase to continue improving the rate at which we are able to release new content to our players there. In addition to the China launch, we also just announced that we will be releasing a Portuguese version of World of Warcraft in Brazil later this year.
Aside from promoting World of Warcraft in other regions, we're taking other steps to bring more players into the community. With the new World of Warcraft's Starter Edition, players are now able to play the game for free until level 20 with no time restrictions. Since the launch of this program, we've seen a significant increase in new account creations, which we hope will allow us to continue attracting new players.
that was a drop of 300k since the end of Q1 and 900k since Q3/2010.
The earnings call covers the data until June 30th (and was held on August 3rd), WoW went F2P on June 28th, subscriber numbers were already at 11.4m at the end of Q1 2011. Blizzard did introduce F2P (which is better described as a not time limited trial) as a reaction to the subscriber loss, your theory is uninformed bull****.
Quote: Finally, our partners at NetEase began operating Wrath of the Lich King in China back in August. Players in that region have flocked to the game and as a result we've seen our active global player base for the World of Warcraft top 12 million.
Activision Blizzard Inc. Q3 2010 Earnings Call
(though to put things into perspective Q2 2010 was "more than 11.5 million players" - still Cataclysm didn't go quite as planned and WoW has less players than a year ago - despite growth in China)

Nope, unless you like to sit inside when the weather is nice. People come home from school/work and like to play eve for a few hours and winter people often stay indoors because its dark and cold. |

Keep in mind that Peak Concurrent Users (PCU) is not the same thing as the number of subscribed accounts. Historically the accounts subscribed have increased steadily despite drops in PCU, but never increasing as rapidly as PCU, either. PCU has been strongly affected by expansions: PCU starts increasing approximately one to two months before an expansion, and crests approximately one to two months after an expansion. This is because expansions result not only in new subscriptions, but cause increased activity from existing subscribers and subscribers who are dormant in-game.
Incarna is the first expansion where there has been no pre-expansion growth in PCU. However, keep in mind that Incarna is also unlike any other EVE expansion which has been released so far:
- New avatars, one of the core features of Incarna, was released as part of the Incursion expansion.
- Captain's Quarters was released on Singularity (the test server) weeks prior to the official expansion, so players got to experience that aspect of the game well before patch date.
- Captain's Quarters itself has few real features for existing players, and is more of a test for new technology before the winter expansion.
Altogether, Incarna was not a real expansion in that most of its core features were made available prior to patch date, and most of those core features did not have significant gameplay elements. Consequently, Incarna should not be considered a real expansion in its effect on PCU. If we ignore Incarna, then PCU numbers closely track the prior pattern of expansion peak and post-expansion slump. So there is nothing really alarming about Incarna numbers.

I think CCP is going to find out that /dancing in the station does not gameplay make. People do not play WoW because it has avatars, it is the gameplay that gets new customers and keeps existing ones. Fluff like barbie doll dress up does not keep subscriptions.
