do you have better chances to find rare pos minerals in 0.0 than in 0.3 ?

I could be mistaken, but I was under the impression that the moon minerals were quite random. Which had a bunch of ppl up in arms. Anyone else remember what CCP had set up? If its a roid I will mine it... If its a rat I will kill it...

I haven't done much empire scanning and I haven't run the numbers, so I can't be very sure on this, but it seems that the lower the security status, including below 0.0, the more chance a moon has of containing something. In very low 0.0 systems, judged by ore type, I seemed to get a lot more hits than higher 0.0 systems. That isn't to say you will automatically find rare elements in low 0.0 systems though, unfortunately for me.

Edited by: Bertie on 11/03/2005 11:06:32 After 4000 + scans done by my corp I can confidently say moon mineral distribution is NOT random. It is weighted by geographic region, and further weighted by sec status. So different minerals are more likely to appear in certain regions than others, and rarer minerals are more likely to turn up in deep 0.0 than in empire.
Of course I'm not about to tell you what is more likely to be found where, as it has cost us close to a billion isk to find that out!

thanks for the reply guys i was beggining to wonder after scanning 2 0.3 empire system and finding no metal at all .
i got another question , is it possible that one moon produce 2 metal ? i found 3 moon in 0.2 with titanium but it had hydrocarbon and some other crap , can i find one with cronium lets say to be able to make an insta reaction or you need to exploit only 1 metal and trade to get the 2nd one and do a reaction by hauling cargo etc.

Yes, it is possible to find moons with more than one metal.
I have done some scans in several 0.1 systems, and found both titanium and platinum in one moon, as well as several with other combinations, sometimes rarer minerals.
Good luck.

Edited by: Sillente NiKunni on 31/05/2005 06:55:18 found yesterday a moon with : Caesium (qty 2) Chromium (qty1) 1 blue
in 0.0 of course, many chromium, caesium in the system. When i scan if i found only 1 metal it's a bad moon (expect for king minerals of course)
