Tired of realising you need an item or module and looking on the market or asking in the trade channel, then being given the "finger" by the owners who are asking a ridiculious amount of isk for just one? lol, and you thought that you were quite well off with your 100mil thats taken you months of mining/rating/misioning to aquire.
After spending a considerable amount of time watching the trade channel and looking at the markets of different regions, i have come to the conclusion that i am either very poor or EVERYONE else is VERY rich . People on the trade channel think that if you have less than 1 BILLION you are poor These people, which i will refer to as "FatCats", seem to hoard everything of value such as implants, mission chips, tags and named equipment and seem quite able to sew up(Own, control, manipulate) the market on these areas! They make so much money from bulk buying and re-selling that any other method of wealth aquisition is practically a waste of time.
Example: A normal player who has a LIFE and cannot be on eve 12+hrs a day has no way to aquire enough money to even get into the loop! His/Her only methods of income are: missions (for which they need good mods and ships to do lv4 which is only mission really worth the time) Mining (which eventually leads to selling the mins for sell prices controlled by these FatCats or building stuff which is then sold at prices controlled by these FatCats) Rat hunting (which gives little reward unless done in 0.0 and even then the isk is a fixed amount with no connection to the market, if prices go up, you have to just kill MORE rats)
All these jobs a player can do offer very little income or oppertunity for profit on any scale near billions How does an normal player go about attaining enough isk to buy into the market and have enough capital to join the trading? They can't and they don't have any way to do so now it has gotten so bad. Single people now have more isk than corps do! These FatCats control prices, hoard rare items to then sell at disproportionate prices and very effectively keep eachother in the loop and everyone else out!
This is all just my opinion but i do not see a way in and i cannot be playing 24 7 to try and get in. Other people's opinions on this matter would be gratefully recieved as i am interested if anyone else feels the way i do! Please also bear in mind that alot of the following people who disagree with me will be these rich people i am talking about as they'd like everyhing to stay the way it is and want to keep their little rich group together :)

Edited by: The Enslaver on 15/03/2005 19:18:09 Tbh, only a very low percentage (perhaps 0.5% - 1%) of players have above 1 billion; they are just the most vocal ones.
So, no, you arne't poor with under a billion - under 50 million and you could be classed as poor though.
As for people controlling markets - it doesn't happen as much as you think, and if it does, it only happens in a single area per person doing it. No-one has enough ISK to totally control a regional market. --------

The hoarders are the worst kind of carebear. All they're interested in is aquiring the 'next thing', hoarding ISK, and then never doing anything with it. Take comfort in the fact that they will never has as much fun playing EVE as 'normal' players, and will probably die alone and cold, disillusioned with life.
Oh, and quit it with the smilies! ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

if you hate FatCats so much, here's what you can try:
Sit in a Trade channel, find someone who is selling something very expensive. Start a conversation, pretend like you are willing to buy, but you want the goods to be delivered in 0.4 or below system. Organize a gate camp, kill the FatCat
Smart FatCats will probably move stuff in battleships, and they probably won't deliver to 0.4 and below. Record the names of people in Trade channel that are selling very expensive stuff. Use level 3 security agent to find what system they are in. If you are lucky, you'll score one in 0.4 or bellow. Many FatCats reside in 0.0, they have to move their goods to empire to sell them effectively. Cargo scanner is your friend.
It's tough work and will take a team of 3+ battleships, but it's worth it when the goods are over 500 mil in value

Lev 4 agents: Collect and refine loot = 30m per hour.
0.0 NPCing, collect and refine loot = 15 - 20m per hour
0.0 Mining with 2 people = 15 - 20 mill each per hour
Whining on the board because you cant afford the best modules in the game because you are a noob = Priceless.

Yes, anything below 1 billion, you are poor.
I've recently reactivated this account just to check what all the Exodus fuss was all about, and I've cancelled it immediately upon seeing the prices of implants and skills. I was doing well at 50 million before Exodus (I'm not an uber player) but now I feel those 50 million aren't worth squat. I don't have more skills than before, and I pilot cruisers, so I'm not in the same class as the old players, but still the feeling is there that I'm not as rich as I was when I left.
Spent 10 million in the first few hours after reactivating to refit my ships with modules that worked again, then to the loss of my cruiser to an instanced mission (never done one before, didn't know what to expect), and it feels too much like a (pointless) grind to make those 10 million back.
So I'll just train some skills until the account expires, then go back to playing other games.

I wonder who will do the locking honors???
Stop griping about server instability and go buy an EVE mug!
Additionally with the purchase of each mug you will receive two(2) invisible Elves.

Edited by: EveJunkie on 15/03/2005 21:34:48 What worries me more is what happens when folk have a bil isk. When youre a newbie you work hard to get "stuff" and "skills"; theres always something to work towards.
Once you hit 1 bil you buy everything you ever wanted (except BPO's and uber loot at dumb prices), get bored because they dont have goals anymore and then quit.
Quite alot of old players I've flown with have done exactly that. They're done the 0.0 stuff, done the PvP, done the POS and building and now lvl 4 agents have made them so rich they can afford everything they ever wanted. So they've quit out of boredom.

If under 1 bil = poor then I'm in truoble, I've got about 6 mil, and I'm struggling to make cash, even running lvl 3 missions I'm finding it hard to make any money, I'm just making about 100k / week after repairs and ammo expenses...
And the worst part is I've just recieved a bill for my lab slot of 2 mil :( all I'm doing is researching a bpo that belongs to the corp I'm in and unfortunatly the corp can not afford the lab rental, thanks to the 4 mil office rent (again that's going to come out of my cash :( )
So these people that say head out to 0.0 and mine / npc hunt think about the little guys, like myself, that can not afford to replace ships every day, 100% insurance, mods and clones...

I think your going a bit over the top on this really.
I used to more or less control the mineral prices of a particular system pre-exodus, by playing the market in a few systems to the extreme. It used to net me hundreds of millions per week, but then CCP nerfed that way of making cash. So to do so now I would have to either tie up billions in each system or spend a LOT more time on it, and the taxes and fees dig into the end profits. Hence, I donÆt bother anymore (although the strategy would still work) û too much effort now for less reward and IÆm a billionaire with a fleet of well kitted ships so I figure why bother û I certainly canÆt be bothered with trying to rip of other players by hoarding and charging high prices, itÆs just not worth it when you have so much isk anyway. And by the way, I built up that empire from a mere 20mil over a few months, only needed a few hours per week of time. ItÆs just a case of knowing what and where to buy/recycle/sell and how to identify if youÆre in competition with another player.
Trading as in buying x amount of stuff from system A, transporting to system B and selling for y sucks big time though û really not worth it!
Prices of stuff has gone up recently, but then mineral prices have doubled since I was making tons of isk trading which has more than made up for it. (Ok, bar Zyd and Mega û Mega went for up to 10k/unit back then, but then the lower mins were my main source of income)
There will always be people with far more isk than you who can afford far better stuff than you, just as in life û get over it.
