So I was playing around with the new Cyno effect on Sisi, and although it's a *slight* improvement to the current effect, I think the question on everyone's mind is:
Why can't you just give us back the old one??
Seriously, I think 90% of the playerbase agrees the old cyno ten times more awesome than whatever variation of the wormhole effect you can come up. There was just something to powerful, so majestic, like you could feel the very fabric of space time ripping apart from the sheer force of an entire cap fleet jumping in.
This new one is just like derp glowing red ball, derp cap fleet suddenly appears.

My guess is that the old one was incompatible with the current engine, and they had to redesign it. Since CCP seems to have a revolving door when it comes employees the Dev who made it is no longer there, and they can't recreate the exact same effect.
At least thats my guess on it. |

I made another video of it with the perspective of the carrier and the cyno ship, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yz8aV7T5nRw while people's opinions might be split whether the original one or this is better we could all probably agree it's much better than the current. |

Agreed... the flash of light and whatnot does add back some of the 'drama' that a cap drop needs, but it's still outclassed by the original.

I was hoping for something more than a bit of red flash being added to a wormhole, especially given the amount of time we have been waiting for an improvement. The old effects are clearly better and I was hoping for something as good or if not better than they were.
So is CCP so stretch thin working on their other games all they could do is add some red lipstick to a pig? |

More likely doing it properly would require effort and/or actually assigning dev time. |

No, it's not good enough. The red glow is too easy, as if the guy designing it didn't really try very hard, or didn't have the time OR was simply incapable of making something truly good (Most of the newer stuff lacks the flair and aesthetics old EVE stuff did have). If I were the one person in charge I'd send it back to the drawing board with a "nice try, but no cigar".
The "but it's better than what we have" is no excuse, we're going to be stuck with this for a long time so why in the hell are they just not capable of making something truly spectacular?

Just an idea,
Would be cool if the color of the Jump in flash could be dependent on the Fuel that the ship uses.
ex. Hydrogen = Blue Flash, Oxygen = Yellow, nitrogen = inert (Pick a color??), HELIUM = Pink (ROFL!) |

Bunch of friggin cry babies, the new planned effect is cool.
Yes, the old one is best, but all of your bitching and whining is infinitely worse than even the current cyno effect.

Not sure if like: I feel like there should be more of a spool up animation when jumping out. When landing on grid they should cut the portal bit and just have the flash. It would look better and conceal the model spawning. Also It seems like they tried to throw in a combo of the last two when the ship lands which is what makes it look bad. They should either go back to the old one or make this one original. |

One little thing, the cloak effect somehow destroys the whole jump effect. They should hide the ship completely after the jump effect. |

The old effect looks terrible. You see this huge, spammy tunnel, but the ship doesn't move through it. There isn't even a flash of light going through the tunnel, to add the illusion of movement. It's just a cylinder-shaped explosion. The new one has better structure, and makes a whole lot more sense. |

My guess is different.
The engine differences are in it but a bit more extreme. The old one had a long play window for an effect, the graphics rendering for it - via the newer engine, would put a huge strain on the clients.
1-5 ships coming in? Not bad. 50+ ships and even a high-end multi-card rig could be brought to it's knees, potentially for an extended period due to the length of the effect as more and more ships are cyno'd in.
As such, to help reduce lag - that effect isn't used. "but it looks cool!" - so does CQ at first glance but the load... then multiple clients... Many have complaints about CQ.
As such, its easier to deal with a few "more shiny!" than huge outrage when a fleet jumps in and people lose ships due to extended lag on the client side. |

I like the new effect. It's not as impressive as the old one, but keep in mind that the scale of fights has changed very much since then. When jumping in 50 ships the old effects would completely cover the screen to the point of becoming a jumbled mess of white. The new effect sends a very clear message that stuff is about to go down (unlike the current one, which is very easy to miss), yet the flash of each individual ship is still distinct.
I absolutely love the idea of coloring the effect according to the racial propulsion system used. If there is any possibility at all of this ever getting into the game, that would probably be my favorite visual change ever. Also, jump in 20 random ships, fireworks!
What I do not like about the new effect is that it goes: ship appears, fireworks happen. I would prefer (and it would make more logical sense) to see the fireworks first, and the ship to emerge from the flash a second later. |

my only trouble with the current cyno effects (both on tq and sisi atm) is, that despite a cool effect in the background, ships just simply appear or vanish. I would expect to see some fading or warping of the ship model or an effect that is tied to the ship model instead of just being a blob. |

What evidence makes you think they don't? CQ? Check the option not to load it. That doesn't work well for individual effects.
Every time we see a ton of complaints about graphic performance, they do something to adjust it and CQ's being new - it's taking time but they've already been heavily working on it to tun it up.
As such, adding 1 effect that would increase "lag" style issues in fleet ops would be frowned upon, server or client side, without an option to turn it off. |

I agree with DarkAegix and Mac Tir, the old effect looked terrible and was scaled too big for the ships using it.
It also looked like something was going to zoom out of the cone of lightning but nothing ever did and a ship just appeared.

Their appearance after cyno'ing in doesn't make you feel like they achieved a really stonking fast approach across many light years of space.
It's more like teleportation than travel. There should be a gate the other side to catch or a 15km slow down animation to help suspend disbelief
Would force people to learn new cyno habits and cause more funny deaths than ever as people bounce off of stations (akin to popping cynos at pos shields ) ---- CONCORD arrested two n00bs yesterday, one was drinking battery acid, the other was eating fireworks. They charged one and let the other one off. |
