is there any plans for CCP to release the game in the US ??
us US players are a rare breed in Eve (endangered species) + the fact that CCP could make BIG money if they where to relase it here (meaning buy add time on the networks)
Thank You Paw Sandberg

Well the boxed version of the game is availible in Canada, my friend recently bought it for 10 bucks (cost me 70 though ) im sure its availible in the states they just gotta advertise it. if CCP could somehow afford a prime time TV commercial showing the graphics + what you can do we'd get ****loads of people ----------------------------------------------- CANADIAN |

The US deployment EVE-Online was originally the campaign of Simon & Schuster, who then stopped selling video games all together. The man in charge of the EVE project left the company and managed to take the marketing with him. My dad works for VIACOM (who gives Simon & Schuster content such as Nickelodeon merchandise) and talks to him often. At work they call the guy "Mr. EVE" but I don't know what his future plans are for marketing. After talking to him through my dad, though, "Mr. EVE" said he was open to suggestions.
I don't know CCP's position on this - but if any of you have some constructive suggestions for me to pass along to him, please send 'em my way!
And yes, it's how I was first introduced to the game.. in box form, in the US. á

Yeah and that's the US EVE players' fault. Since we're all overweight beef-shake slurping cowboys we can't move around a lot, so it would make sense we get all the movies first. It's a pity really. á

Since when was WoW twitch? I am US player and love EVE, I think it is more that Americans don't know about it than that they don't like it. Other than the first box release I don't think there has been any sort of marketing for EVE in the states.

Edited by: Sevarus James on 24/03/2005 04:35:45 Hate to break this to ya 3rdD Dave, but Eve was released worldwide on the same day........that's kinda' how mmo's do things. The boxes were on the shelves in the US at or near the same time as they were everywhere else.
There are still some original EVE copies floating around in discount bins (i've seen a few here and there), but it would an idea to get the 'exodus' release out to stores...those 'in' game don't need em', but would be another way to keep it in 'mind' to the general buying public. Of course this is mostly just thinkin' aloud...its a nightmare for 'shelf' space in the game industry...and would most likely be more trouble than its worth. Advertising in mags and online would probably be the more cost effective and efficient route at this point.
p.s. what is with all the 'US' bashing I've been seeing in the forums lately? Some of it is completely uncalled for, and coming from a small number of people repeatedly.

There's an interview here, taken today I think, where they mention an upcoming advertising campaign in the US, along with other bits of info.

I know they did say they were going to start up advertising again with Shiva/Exodus as EVE would be "relaunched". Some of it involved getting new game reviews by the major game reviewers. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I think word of mouth and existing players promoting it outside across the net could be useful i do on a major forum with 70,000 users.
Lets hope they move rapidly to a) fix bugs b) add new content c) add new features as it becomes possible to do so without major bugs d) use the profits wisely

As has been previously mentionned, EVE got released in north america simultaneously with europe. Unfortunately, it was expensive and totally lacking in any advertisement or even its own shelf displays or posters. I had to look ALL OVER my city to find a copy, paid a mint for it, was prolly the only one in town who bought the game (my RL m8 played beta) and then it went into the discount bins.
EVE could definitely use a re-release in North America, but only if there's enough money put into "flash" that ppl take the time to pick up the box, let alone even notice it on the shelf. In my \town I had to ask for a copy, none were on display, even 2 weeks after release. That's pretty sad. If on the other hand there's no money for a decent roll-out or to buy shelf space in big chain stores as well as game shops, I'd suggest packaging 3 week trials in 3 or 4 leading games magazines and making sure LOTS of GM's and Polaris volunteers are working for the few weeks after those mags came out...

Like a lot of other U.S. players have mentioned, Eve had virtually no ads or marketing in the States.
I actually found this game completely by chance; I was at some electronics store one day and saw it on the shelf. I was a little unsure about how good it would be (because I hadn't heard anything about it), but I had some money that was burning a hole in my pocket and felt guilty about spending it on drugs, so I bought Eve.
I'm glad I did. ----------------------------

I guess I'm somewhat of a rare breed as well. I havn't seen many New Zealanders around or I'm just ignorant but I first heard it through a guy who played FL. Checked it out but kinda forgot about it until another FL player sent me the demo through that buddy program. Two weeks and I was hooked

As for Eve, its been in the U.S sense day one and its hardly a challenge to find yanks in game and in large numbers.

It was on the shelves at Wal-Mart (where I worked....yeah, evil place). I remember picking up the box and thinking about buying it. Then I said "Nah, I'll wait for Star Wars Galaxies to come out to play an MMORPG." What a mistake that decision was.

Learnt about Eve well before it was released from some random website.
Was in the Beta for quite some time.
When it was finally released, I saw the copies in BestBuy for about a month.
Since then, I haven't seen even one copy in any of the major comp/elec stores.

Bigoted - maybe. Insulting - not intentionally. I didn't say 'not intelligent enough' or 'not mindless enough'.
Personally, I'd call someone who looks down on people who like twitch-based games as bigoted, but that's just me, I guess. I'm a big CS fan and player. I like my twitch games just as much as my 'intelligent' games (not that EVE is an intelligent game, but whatever...).
--EDIT--
Quote: You're just the same OOC and IC, IGNORANT.
Oh, and this made me laugh. IC I play a person who hates people who are slavers, the Amarrians. Their ENTIRE racial traits is written on this website, a good few paragraphs, and just about all of it is talking about how they enslave, genocide and do other vaguely cruel things. That's it. There isn't any opinion to be had on the subject. They're a fictional, evil race.
So how the **** am I ignorant for hating them? Haha, you're such a dumbass. ---------------- Haha, stupid monkey! Now I'VE got the Oscar! Enjoy your worthless gun! |

Would it really be worth releasing it again in stores or doing expensive network adds? I havnt been to a game store in years, since so many of them seem to have converted to console-only stores, or at best a small wall display for the newer games. I got into EVE because one of my planetside mates was raving about it. I dont remember seeing any ads or boxes in the UK.
Interestingly, a while ago the PS players where getting in a srtess with sony for not advertising anywhere. After ages of whining, a few of the PS players made their own advertising video of PS (A huge amount of the work done by Marco Polo - Take a look), spammed in every forum they knew of, made PS CS:S sigs and sprayed, and spammed local channels on every other online game they played. The statistics for the site hosting the video and free trials went sky-high, and PS saw a boom of new players. If you truly want advertising to bring in new players, you can probably do it cheaper and better than CCP could. I tend to ignore all the ads I see out of habit, but when a friend of mine starts talking about a game I listen. Got one of my RL mates playing eve just a month ago :)

im talking promoting on non game forums - financial investment forums etc - as well as dating sites, all sorts of things - keep it reasonably discreet though on some sites depending on linking policies - but it should help get more players into eve

i live in the UK and i have never seen any EVE advertising of any kind, anywhere. Nor have i ever seen the boxed version in any shop.
the lack of advertising is not limited to the US.
i found out about eve by typing "space combat trading game" into google... my BBC B / Acornsoft Elite doesnt really cut it anymore

Eve was in Best Buy stores (got my CD there, still got it) but shortly after, they pulled it off the shelves, rumors from the employees pointed towards too many complaints (was a very buggy time for Eve in it's beginning).
Now, I think they could convince the B.B. folks to give it another go. Why not try and strike a deal for those big gamer stores CCP, lets get some yank blood in the Eve universe.
an idea: Sell a reg key for the initial 30 day start up, but have them download the software. This gets store front attention, and still keeps your distro cost down to just a little card (no boxes needed). ::::::::::::::::::::::::: >>...wanna cookie?<< :::::::::::::::::::::::::
