I'm thinking about making a eve advert vid. Trying to anyway. Just hard because I don't have the tools available to get the shots I want.
OH OH OH GREAT IDEA!!!
On the Season Premiere of Stargate Atlantis & SG1 for next (July)
play the Exodus video. Guaranteed HUGE hit!! You'd get so many peeps that your servers would explode. No bs. You do that, and **** me. Crazy.

This is why I decided to try it.

The sci-fi Friday slots....including the new Battlestar Galactica.........man if there were EVER a time for an 'EVE-commercial' that'd be it. Great idea! (now wonders at the COST of those 'spots' as that evening is the highest rated programming (and highest expense for ads, I'm betting) for SCI-FI's broadcast week.

I think CCP is afraid of getting too many players and not being able to keep up, that's the only way to explain the complete lack of advertising, must gamers in the US don't even know eve exists, and i'm sure they could pull in a lot of asians if they targeted that market.

I am a US player. I downloaded the game over the internet and I discovered this game by accident a few days ago. No advertising.
Space sims are a hard sell and do not do well on shelves. I think it is a bad idea to take on such costs for little sales. I think online sales is the right way.

I stumbled over the Internet Telecafe that way
it was a Canadian site little know but extremely popular by the ppl that used it (think yahoo msng for a group talk 15 years ago) we where a very loyal fan base proberly about 5000 ppl using the Telecafe I moved and quit using the program and the next time I logged in (about 10 years later) there was less than 100 ppl using it
the Telecafe was the best that was way better than ICQ or anything else out there now (if it still exist) its dead
I am afraid that unless CCP open their mouth and say hey look at us the samme thing will eventually happen to Eve

I think its well established that CCP has all the load they can handle. When they get some extra bandwidth, they will likely push into the US market more.
Those east of the pond probably don't see us US folk because yall go to bed too soon I remember being in one mainly US corp, and fighting against a mainly UK corp. Was funny because we would just be logging on when they were done with their gate camps for the night...
There is the BLizzard approach which puts people from similar regions into similar servers. I though Eve was doing that at first when I thought french people would be put into the same region of space, and UK folks, etc. But I learned that your starting location instead is based on race/school. ____ If your not dyin' your not tryin'. |

Edited by: Dionysus Davinci on 30/03/2005 16:31:29 Edited by: Dionysus Davinci on 30/03/2005 16:26:18 I stumbled onto Eve by accident because I activly looked for a MMO to play. I do however think an ad during Season Premier of Stargate Atlantis could draw in some I think Galtica might be a waist since it appears in Euro market first and sadly the people that would sign up will not see the ad because they will have already seen it. Which is also why TV producers should stop release first markets to help curb what they want to stop
Though what worries me, how much is still true that you make them most moneies right after downtime. It has mattered to me since I pretty much left empire, but I remember way in the begining when the BS use to strip mine empire after downtime and I would log on EST US and find nothing and I can only imagine what it felt like for PST players ;_;
If somewhere this mechanic still exists, somewhere, Eve will never be successful into entering the US market in strong force like it has for Europe area.

A very simple way for CCP to reach US customers is to team up with BioWare. They can help promote EVE by adding it to their online store. http://store.bioware.com
Bioware is a great company and has a very large player base. With 2,442,272 users emails they can send out info about EVE in their newsletter. Sould be no problem getting another 10,000 new players :)
This could bring a lot of new players to the game and would be cheaper than trying to go the retail route.
