Edited by: moby on 10/04/2005 06:48:46 SMOSKE, who lived in Antwerp (Belgium), worked in the IT department of Belgacom in Brussels. he alternated his trip to work by using my car to Brussels or his motorcycle to a railway station to catch a train to Brussels. On his way back home from work on Thursday evening the 7th of April 2005 he was hit by a car and deceased on the spot.
For him EVE was THE game and he loved to play it because of the versatility and human contacts it provided him. At the start of EVE he formed his own small corporation and then joined The Priory of Sion [ORMUS] taking part in the birth of the first Fade Union and rapidly joining Legion of the Damned [LOD] the main PVP-corp of FU, only to leave for even more PVP by joining m0o [m0o] until they hibernated. So the next step was the start of Death Row [DIE] where he acted as CO-CEO. As [DIE] also went into hibernation he wanted to carebear for a while and lately joined up with some old mates in Ion Corp [ION].
A lot of you people know him only as AYAL the creator and owner of WWW.EVE-KILLS.COM - a project he gave a lot of time and dedication and was proud of the 80.624 average daily hits he got in March and for your information already 70.102 so far in April (9 days). It often saddened him that some people did not understand that he made the site for volunteering individuals and not for corporations or alliances, those stats are merely a by-product he enabled (without access to the CCP database accuracy is impossible). This might explain why the points system was aimed for individual pilots. For those that use EVE-KILLS please be aware that I lack any knowledge about PHP, Linux server etc ... and do not know the login nor password so there will be no more updates, maintenance nor support as from now - in memory of his enthusiasm the site and the server will stay up for as long as it can and if nothing crashes it might be available for quite some time, but no points will be configured for eventual new ships to be released.
My son's name was Vincent van Weert, he was only 26 years old and I miss him so much ...

Always sad when we lose a player like that. I have seen quite a few deaths in my time in other games and we usually had some kind of gathering/event held in the persons honor.
My condolences go out to his family.

I can't even begin to express what we are feeling right now, Moby.
Smoske was one of us and one of the finest frig pilots I had the pleasure of fighting with.
The shock that resounded around our TS is like we lost one of our own.
All of RKK's thoughts go with you at this difficult time, Moby.

Man, I know how it feels. I lost an old classmate of mine during easter. We had been in the same class for over 7 years. He was only 18 years old and died when his car hit a tree at 150km/h. Best wishes to you moby. :/ _____________________________________________________

Moby,
I am nearly at a loss for words. ItĘs hard to lose any member of the community, but when its somebody you flew with so much in the past it hurts that much more.
All of Reikoku wishes your family the best in this difficult time. Many condolences.

I'm very sorry to hear that. From the little time I spent talking to him, he seemed like a very good person.
On behalf of this corporation and its friends, our deepest condolences go out to you and your family. May he rest in peace. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

For those who had the chance to fly with him, Smoske was a top-class EVE pilot and more important: a friend, a brother. On behalf of all ex-nemesis pilots, I would like to express my condolences and send you and your family all our thoughts.
Rest In Peace, brother, we'll never forget you.
