Why?
Simple, I dont want to help in any way, for people to exploit the game or cause any problems for the superb staff at CCP who gave permission for this project.
Sorry.
Ah kewl been watching your responses to this Drax... Great job extracting the ship models... :-) I was awsome watching this... who'd you talk to about stripping out the models in CCP so we can ask for the same type of permission? I only ask cuz I'd love for there to be more "CGI Intensive" videos that come out like this... perhaps a couple series based CGI cartoons that would be released monthly (kinda like winterblinks wda cartoons)
Just figured I ask :-) Awsome job again guys... From Ashes to Ashes... From Dust to Dust....

Any chance you are going to share the extraction tool?
Sorry, we do not have the right to distribute CCP property and releasing that tool would do just that. We had to be given permission from CCP to use it ourselves.
The tool doesn't distribute ccp property, in the same way as a .stuff expander doesn't.
What you mean is you want to keep it to yourselves.
Understandable considering the work that went in to it, but still unfortunate for the community as a whole.

I gotta admit, when Evol decides to do something, they don't screw around. /claps
It definitely had a "Battlestar Galactica" feel to it. (and thats GOOD) And it reinforces my strong belief that Eve would make an excellent tv-series.
You and the guy from M Corp should get together and make movie babies.

Ok 2 things.
1) OMG WOW!!!! I had been planning on doing a CG vid for promotion of my corp, but you guys beat me to it, gratz, looks nice.
2)Drax, if I can get CCP to ok it, will you get me a copy of that program? I would love to see if it will also export to Modo (which I use for moddeling). That way I can modify the models as needed and provide them to my brother who does all the animation stuff.
Oops, make that 3 things.....
3) CCP if a dev, or somesuch can give drax permission to share the program with the community, and or release the models in a fairly generic format for teh community to use, that would be great.

CCP releasing a community model for each ship (and maybe a station or two) would be very useful, but I doubt it will happen, as they do not want people stealing the models for their own games :(

If someone with the skills to create a game wanted ships that looked like the ones in EVE it would be no problem for a decent 3D artist (Biff Steel himself had modelled some ships before knowing of Draximus' work) and on top of that the models/ship designs are covered by the game's copyright, that means that no one could legally use them for a game of their own and if someone did CCP lawyers would eat them for lunch.
If CCP released the models and included with each one an EULA they could be sure to stay in control of the situation, something that would benefit both CCP and the video-making community. But don't forget it is CCP's game and it is their decision to release or not to release those models or extraction tools. Players can only express their wishes .

That is a very good idea with releasing EULA with the models. I hope CCP think about this idea seriously, now they've seen what can be done.

Its proberly nothing to do with that, its say for example removing the models and adding green boxes that represent a scorp or a tempest etc which would make target calling much eaiser and also increase fps and decrease load times and lag. There is plenty of people out there that would do such things and give to much of a advantage so its not worth it so people can do there own cgi's

Apparently you dont understand what extracting a model is. You dont remove it from the archives, you extract the file (think winrar) into a useable format. There would be no way to replace it with a green box, aside from recoding portions of the client, which would likely get caught by CCP.

What he's saying is that if you can remove stuff from the stuff files (pun, yay), you will be able to put in your own models also in which case you could replace the models (just as in the case that you can replace textures easily at the moment. I'm sure CCP could put in a counterstrike (urgh bad game but only example i can think of) style model check when you boot up eve though :P Just an idea. This movie will get lots of people wanting to created 3d ap based movies :)

Sorry but ive already covered this.
I wont be distributing the tool, as CCP have placed great trust in us regarding this little project and I do not intend to let them down.
The problem with giving the tool to someone else, is that I am no longer in control of it, and therefore I cant guarantee its usage to be what it was designed for.

I can respect this Draximus... I wouldn't release the program myself honestly either with the fine line of intellectual property theft here with such a program.
That being said, can you possibly release a library of models (already extracted) that could be downloaded and imported to maya or 3ds max? That way you control the tool, but the models are still exported (also no way to reimport them without your tool) so really no chance for exploit... plus there really are some of us in the community who would love to CGI some sweet corporation intros and then some mini-series only to be posted here. Obviously we'd get our ass sued if we ever made any profit from the models, and using ingame footage has always been what this community is about I can really seeing that being chaned with the release of the models alone...
Anyways hope you take the models only library release into consideration.
Again.. GJ guys on the intro... can't wait for the movie. Nes From Ashes to Ashes... From Dust to Dust....

Good idea. Drax could you at least release the models? I also ask CCP in my post to release the models, but if Drax will do it that would be cool.
And since there would be no chance for hacking the client without your program, there would be no potential fair play issues.
