ok.... there i was, needing to haul lots of m¦ of cargo, and so i invested 27 million into the transport ship skill...
at a first glance, the occator had 6 low slots instead of 5 i am used to from my iteron V, so it seems fine
while the skill trains, i take a closer look.... the occator has less base cargo capacity.. so i start to get uneasy, and do some calculations...
to cut long stories short, these ships are totally crap.... while i can imagine the 2nd transport ship being of some use in blocade running (with higher speed and built in warp stabs)the other transport ship is soo crappy it isnt even funny...
with standard expanders, the iteron V will have more cargo space than the occator... while being faster too
only with the high end expanders the occator gets slightly more space... so, the gain if you use 6x local hull conversion expanded cargohold Is is a whooping 1300m¦
yeah sure.. for that im not going to spend 180+mil alone for the expanders, and some 70 mil for the ship maybe... sadly i bought and trained the skill allready, but well... at least a lesson learned...
now to make the slow non blockade running model of at least some use, either scrap the armor repper boni for the transport skill and give it additional cargo bonus, or at least let it have the same base cargo cap as the hull it is build upon ----

It's not designed to be uber cargo ships. Freighters will cover that. Look at their resistances, other bonuses etc. /me thinks we need a cover ops transport ship;D ------------------------------------------------ Sig advertisment:

Toss 6 stabs on it and no solo player, and most small groups will never kill you. Who needs team work and scouts when you have stabs.

well... first , freighters arent in game yet... and probably will not be for some time...
and secondly... while i can understand the resistance argument on the faster of the two transports for each race... honestly the slow one is just useless... you wont be going anywhere, and well.. ok, the pirates will need more rounds untill youre precious ship is space dust...
if it at least got the same cargo space as the original hull, the price tag might be justified in some way.. but as it is now.. its just insane .. ----

Actually - you'll find them ideal for afk-mining low sec space (0.5 +) cos you can quite successfully passive-tank cruiser spawns forever.

You are using a t2 ship to afk-mine mid-end ore with one laser. I don't care HOW rich you guys are, that's just... wrong.

The transport ships should at least be mediocre "mining indys". Give them 2 turret hardpoints, and 500 m3 drone space. Maybe this will at least make a tech 2 200 mil ship any more useless, that a showoff toy.
Also - introduce Faction Indy's... _______________________________________________

Just cause you have no use for the tech 2 indys doesnt mean everyone else doesnt either.

Less egoistic? While Im at it, maybe i should just quite eve, give you all my stuff, and then kill myself? Sorry, but the words i quoted are an oxymoron for me, but since you're very open minded, you'll understand?

You should really have done the maths on the ship before purchasing the skill.

uhm , do transports have turret hardpoints at all? There was a lot of talk about that before they come out. I havent got around to test it yet.

forgive my ignorance but i thought they didnt have a turret hardpoint, thus mining might be difficult

The really heavy on defense ones don't have turret hard points. The blockade runners do have 1 safe for the caldari 1 which only has a missile hardpoint.

The point of a transport isn't to be able to haul more stuff. It's to be able to make runs into deep space with relative impugnity.
So they've got decent resistances, a fair lick of speed, and enough grid to run an MWD.
Personally, I rather like the idea of 2500 m3 that can do 160m/sec base speed, fit 4 nanofibers and a MWD. Oh, and has 'built in' warp core stabilisers (prorator as as the example here).
Oh, and has 60/60/43/35% resistances on the armour.
Much less likely to get ganked in transit. Much faster to make long runs.

Have you ever heard the famous: "help, we have a big battle in ABC-123, and almost got that station, but our BS are running out of ammo, some1 haul some ammo PLS" thingy on your corp/alliance chat?
No? Because otherwise you'd know what they are good for.

I'll take who missed the point of transports for $200.
They're meant to be 0.0 runners in two flavors: Tank or Speed Demon. Take an indy into 0.0 and you'll most likely get pounded into sand unless you have every gate and station marked with instas.

the occator has such a crappy agility that it would get prolly killed by any BS before being able to warp out or mwd to the gate. Serious.
Dear friendly customer... Can I have your money ?

Occator with it's Mark5 hull can easily be impeded aligning for warp by a pesky frigate, nevermind a battleship.
I don't care about the resists, if you meet an enemy in one of those you are going to die.
Yes.. I have the skill but bailed out on paying 130m for a ship which doesn't offer bang for the buck

Its based on a Iteron III hull since it takes a T1 Iteron III to build it.
While it has the powergrid to easily mount a 10 mn mwd the pure mass of the thing makes it slow to accel even with the mwd turned on. The occator has almost twice the mass of a Mark V but then with all the armor it has I guess that makes sense. With all that mass it takes almost 2x the time to align and go to warp as a similiar outfitted Mark V.

Edited by: Sadist on 28/04/2005 13:42:00 Edited by: Sadist on 28/04/2005 13:30:45 There are so many ways to prevent a transport ship from going anywhere...Some being: 1. Scramble it for 4 to 6 strength - if he wears that much WCS and still gets away from you - then his agility is very crappy. 2. Double web it - this screws your agility majorly. So majorly in fact, as to call in reinforcements or break your tank (whatever is faster) 3. Bump into you - at 3-4 km/s most intys can turn an indy more than 90 degrees, also giving you a speed boost in a random direction. And the inty is also shooting at you right now.
The tech 2 advancements and resists did not adress the actual problems for blockade running. Sure you last longer, but in the end you still die. Getting into warp quicker? Nothing goes quicker than a tech 1 sigil with 5 x -15% agi nanos, and costs peanuts to replace.
Any reason to overpay 100 times for a ship that gives you 30 seconds more time to live in 0.0? If there's any serious argument as to why TS suck total arse at what they are supposed to do, for 4 times their base cost (and 100 times a cost of a tech 1 indy, also requiring racial indy lvl 5), we'd better hear it.
Im getting a strong feeling that they were released without proper testing, like covert bombers and logistic ships, and are now another useless (yes, except pimp riding) class of ships. _______________________________________________

well then don't buy one. My bustard with 23,900 m3 cargo (only using 21% expanders), which is very nice for us caldari haulers who didn't want to jump ont he It V band wagon, plus the fact i can afk haul right through .4 space, have watch caracal gangs of 3-4 ships bounce off me while concord wtf pawns them and easily took the shelling from a long range tempest in .4 space. All in all my bustard at 65 mil has more than paid for itself i'd say.
not every ship is good for everyone.

Transport ships have 2-5 times the amount of HP than normal indies.
Transport ships have the slots to tank.
Any further questions?

i doubt a taranis can break a tanked transport in time.
well i have a mastodon and am very satisfied with it, the occasional small gank squads you meet in 0.0 arent a harm for you, only the bigger gate camps can be an issue.

I love my viator, 7500m3 cargo and a mwd <3 , 1371m/s speed. Also fit 3 local overdrives for 420 m/s base and with mwd 2400 m/s and have a cargo bay of 2300 m3.
