So I decided to have a go at making an auction site, some of you already know my other service - EVE-Files, this is an attempt in the same direction but for all you sellers/traders.
Of course a glance at "EVE-Bay" will be very little interesting as there are currently no auctions. But maybe you all can help there, by just trying it a few times - see if it makes your sale easier or not.
Maybe your next auction can be a suitable one for testing EVE-Bay?
This is not an attempt to make this forum die out. I can still see your auction posts in here, but maybe instead there is an URL to your items at EVE-Bay. :)
Point your browsers to http://www.myevebay.com and have a try today.
All feedback and comments are most welcome.
!! NOTE !! You will bid and pay using ISK (in-game currency) only! You are only allowed to auction/sell in-game EVE items. Other items will be removed.
Regards,

Would the 1% be paid by the auction starter or winner? _______________________________________________

I was thinking starter, as he/she is the one that will receive the money. But I will not enforce any tax payments, it is rather I wish to have a little something for the service, but if the seller does not pay, it will be like that.
I have no intension to hunt anyone down for the ISK. Just hoping some will pay as a thanks.

The page cannot be displayed There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed.
Getting an error when trying to actually start an auction. Not sure why, trying different things.

Putting something special in the fields?
What do you put in each field?

Nothing special. Just was testing one out. I put some random stuff in the title and description. I am now thinking that I shouldn't have stuck the "mil" in where you put the price. That was probably it. If you could change that so you can specify that it might be nice. Not sure if you can though.

I did a new test and I see that it works. Looks good... think I might be using this. Wanna see how it catches on. A nice STICKIE would be nice!

Nice site. I would love to see this take off but all this traffic needs to be directed to your site somehow. Maybe officially by CCP?

Edited by: shooting dutchman on 30/04/2005 08:43:54 btw It would be maybe nice if people can see the eve name of the person holding the auction somewhere on the site, so people know who are you trading with.

Edited by: shooting dutchman on 30/04/2005 09:11:32 maybe make it possible to enter the end date yourself instead of choosing how long the auction takes.
and maybe ask people for ingame isk as a donation and not 1% a item, because I don't think people with large auction with lot's of money will put it on the site...

Originally by: Zarthanon I prefer to put "70 million" as opposed to "70,000,000" but whatever works.
Should have fixed that, you can now use M as million instead of typing the whole number (eg 75M).
Originally by: shooting dutchman btw It would be maybe nice if people can see the eve name of the person holding the auction somewhere on the site, so people know who are you trading with.
Working on ideas for that too, perhaps making the users register via the in-game browser to pull their character name is a good idea?

I thought of that and found using a set time frame the easiest way, but I shouldn't have any major problems implementing own specified dates, the main reason I haven't done this already is beacuse the timezones sometimes are quite annoying to calculate.
As for the 1%, asking for donations most of the times do not generate any response, tends to look more like a beggar. But also that's why it say EVE-Bay wishes to receive 1%.
I am not sure how you all feel when selling something for 100M, a 1M giveaway isn't that much, or? Same for a 1B sale, 10M isn't that much?
But of course you all know that better than me since you are the auctioners - not me, I'm just a buyer :)
Give me your comments and thoughts on this as it is you who might be using the service and therefor you that have the most influence on the progress of EVE-Bay.

Registering via IGB is worthless as it can easily be faked.
Make an optional "verification" option, which confirms character name, just like e-mail addresses are usually confirmed - by sending a verification evemail to that character, and then he can confirm receiving it with the IGB.
If you try, you'll see that sending mouseclicks and keypresses to EVE is quite simple. You could make a windows application that would connect to your site's database and automatically send all "confirmation-request" evemails.

I won't know if people would pay 1% fee everytime, when people have a lot of items to sell they will lose a lot of profit.
I don't want to sound to negative, but people got a choise of doing it for free on eve-forum of doing it your site.

the auction is comming along quite nicely, but there is only one problem I've noticed so far..
I set a reserve price that hasn't been met yet, but it list in the auction details as met.. no big problem though I'll sell at what the auction ends at :)

I've bidded on Gary's bpc auction, but in "my bids", it seems as if I've bidded on this auction, and not Gary's.
Originally by: Chrib I thought of that and found using a set time frame the easiest way, but I shouldn't have any major problems implementing own specified dates, the main reason I haven't done this already is beacuse the timezones sometimes are quite annoying to calculate.
Just use EVE Time, problem solved

1% is the same as sale tax, and sale tax is in imo a pain :( .. Maybe ask for 0.1% instead? If your site becomes popular, it'll pay off in the end, as I'd reckon a lot more people would pay the fee.
Some suggestions:
- Give the seller the choice between having a hidden and a seen reserve.
- Give the bidders the choice between being anynomunos (no clue how to spell that word) and not.
- Let people use "_" in their name

Will remove the notices of any tax/fee for now and leave it to future things instead.
What do you others think about hidden/seen reserve, and should the reserve be seen in ISK or just notice like now?
The bidder is anonymous to all except the seller, who only see the current top bidder, but it is easily removed, what do you think?
Added "_" and spaces to login names.

Very nice site mate.
I put up a few items myself to see how it goes and to help pull a little interest over to the site.
That site has alot of potential.
I like how pics can be added to auctions.

A few improvements I can reccomend.
Make the site usable from the ingame browser. Maybe a "lighter" interface, so it would display correctly even at small resolutions, and a more compatible color scheme.
Make the users on the site able to request an e-mail when they get outbid. Sure, this would require some resources, but not anywhere near what's required by loads of people hammering the site to see the exact current standings.
If you are a bit programing savy, make a RSS backend so that people can get updates even easier :)

A simple verification function is in place under "My pages". Some clicky clicky of you in-game but well worth those 2 minutes for a serious user.

Will give in-game browser usage some serious thoughts.
If thought of emails on outbid, but decided to leave it alone for a while. But may be worth it if the service gets popular.
I doubt that more than a handfull of people will use a RSS feed but I have it on my todo list now.
Thank you.

Edited by: DrXavier on 01/05/2005 11:31:43 Great. This is something I have been thinking I would like to see for a little while now. I was very happy to see this post and I will try to get some auctions on there to help get things going. I will be checking it for things I wish to buy as well, so everyone put yours up too!
Looks to be a useful tool.
Suggestions:
1. If there is no buyout price such as in http://www.myevebay.com/item.dxd?id=12 on the main page instead making the buyout price in red = the current bid, just use the word "none" or use a dash "-". I would like to know whether there is or is not a buyout price on the auction without even opening it.
2. Change the way the rating system is done. Either get rid of it altogether, or turn it into a system that only allows you to give a rating if you have won an item from a person. I just accidentally gave user MachZERO 100% seller rating because I wanted to see what the little plus sign link did. Allowing anyone to rate anyone without restriction leaves the system open for griefing. Also, please force people to give a "reason" why they are giving the rating, don't just let them click the + or the - and be done with it. That way if they say something like "just cause" or "this seller sucks" then we can ignore it.

That should already be in place, if it has no BuyOut it will not be any red text.
As for "12" the BuyOut option was used and the auction ended. Thus the current bid became the buyout price, of which it shows. But will fix that on the listing as well.
But for normal auctions that hasn't ended and no buyout is available there should not be any red text.

Thanks will keep it in mind :)
Other notes: Did an update to the bidding system, if a start bid is set it will be the lowest bit to start with, this was not happening before.
Eg start bid 50M then the first bid that can be made is 50M no matter bid increase etc, good or bad way?
Is there any use for ppl to be able to bid 25M if the seller sets start at 50M?
