Edited by: Kayosoni on 02/05/2005 06:40:35 cap charger 2s are so high because when CCP released the BPO, everyone was using cap relay ***** apocs with shield boosters. So midslot ones were worthless.
And then the cap relay nerf happened.
Some lucky fellow decided to buy as many of them as he could... at very cheap prices. I believe he has 6 Cap charger 2 BPOs. -----------------------------------

This is the best thing about Urban legends, the way they evolve over time.
There are no monopolys in eve.** There are no cartels in eve
Prices are generally dictated by demand.
**please note Monopolys are somtimes introduced when the R&D lottery only releases 1 bpo at the beginning of that bpo's seeding period, however this monopoly is rectified as soon as the rest of the bpo's are released.

Truth is, price is dictated by resellers, and if people buy them they keep going up.
It's all about how much people are willing to pay.

I think, though I'm not certain of the exact number, about 30 of each tech 2 BPO is released into the public hands.
Also Andarias what you described is prices being influanced by demand. And if people pay 15 mill for them, put the orginal seller is selling for 10, then the seller isn't all that smart.

Joe: in most law-systems, including eurpoean law, similar market behaviour in pricing without talking to each other is already considered as being a cartel.
so what we have with recharger II actually IS a cartel - just without talking but with observing, adapting, and then completely removing any competition.
Now I wish CONCORD would have a cartel commission

look at the price of t2 pdu... ~5mil... i remember using them on vengeance when they were ~1mil... now they are vital part of carebeaing pimp wagon...
... but t2 cap recharger is beeing less used these days, but prices are still high...
i guess it is time to implement reverse engeneering

Prices are generally dictated by demand.
I dont agree compleetly with that, I see to many tech2 products for sale way to expencive. Like why making more ships with a normal profit instead of 1 with huge profit, less work more cash. Some say that the tech2 items, ships, should be so expencive so that only a few can affort to use them, I totaly disagree with that, the higher skills needed to use those tech2's should be the treshold not by the high prices. When ccp sees this in and drop more bpo's into the game to get prices to a more realistic cost/profit situation then they will improve the game fun for a lot of players and that is what we all want.

It's quite simple really, Cap Recharger II's are currently on the market selling for 15m each, if you found a CR2 BPO you would sell them for 15m aswell, because they sell for that price, you could be silly and sell for 5m hoping to bring the price down, but because they sell at 15m someone would buy your stock and resell at higher price.
In that sense the price is dictated by supply and demand.
If hundreds of bpos were released the price would fall in time because they would be more readily available and more people would compete in prices, however thats no indication of a cartel controlling cr2 prices

Mostly agree, I think one part of many tech II items high prices, particularly the big items like ships is that its a fair bit of hassle to get all the parts and build it (compared to tech I where you have a small number of common components you can fairly easily get and are usefull for most everything) Not neccessarily massively expensive parts, just a pain to go around buying and hauling all the components, then to have to wait in some cases multiple days for each item to pop out. End result is people will sell less for a higher price if given the choice.
Inflation is another factor of course, as people get wealthier they will pay the much higher prices more often/easily, which helps convince people they should be selling high.
lack of BPO's (And or competition) is certainly another factor though, the difference between the manufacture cost and the sale cost of quite a few tech II items out there is staggering. . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

How do you get that number ? 30 of each t2 bpo sounds a bit high.
I have heard 8-10 before and when you look at the list (Linkage) of t2 ship manufacturers that number seems more accurate.

Now factor in the people that kept quiet about it and sold their CRIIs through holding corporations to avoid painting a "pod me repeatedly because I'm rich" sign on the side of their ship and corp.

To have real cartel situation, the manufacturers should be producing fewer items than the market would buy at lower prices.
So, either we have BPO owners stockpiling (or giving free to some subfaction) part of their production to keep prices high, or the price is just dictated by the demand (which is far greater than the potential supply).
So even if the producers initially agreed on some starting price, don't think there would be any need to maintain such cartel pact anymore.
I reckon that Old Farts corp tried for a while to sell Cap Rechargers IIs at lower prices, but eventually gave up, since resellers just took the profit they forgave.

Ignoring any cap recharger II cartel or price fixing that may or may not be happening, lets suppose that someone started selling them for, say, 8 million. What would happen? They'd get snapped up and put back on the market at 15 million. This is exactly what happens with any other "hot" item. The prices of Gistii small shield boosters and Arby cruise launchers spring to mind, as do Deimos and Occators.

The problem are not the producers, its the resellers. I know a BPO owner and he made them for the market at a reasonable price. Then a buyer bought them and placed them back on the market for a higher price. That where those 15mil come from. If you want them cheaper, you have to go to the source. ---------------------------------------------

Quite wrong. The original seller is making his profit, handily so. He sells immediately to the second seller, who is the one raping everyone else by preventing the original builder's wares from being available. The builder does not have to wait to sell, so makes more money, faster, than the second person.
Currently the T2 market is severely f'ed up due to this, as well as CCP's purposeful fostering of it by making it more and more difficult & costly to produce T2 items.

Edited by: Meridius on 08/05/2005 06:55:58 Some real thoughts this time around.
Balance huh...
Cap Recharger II's were made uber when cap relays got nerfed as a result of balancing.
However, the BPO for CR II's were never 'balanced' after that (releasing more, bpo modification).
Unless of course CCP always wanted CR II bpos to sell for 20bil+ and basically function as ISK printers.
If a gun is too effective it gets nerfed.
Lvl 4 missions were too easy risk/reward wise in high sec so they got nerfed.
A BPO turns into a literal ISK printer...no nerf of any sort.

It might seem cool to look at it and say "oh hey thats cool, this player driven economy really made that module very valuable". Thats a delusion, module balancing is the only thing that modified the value of the CR II BPO.
I think it's that player driven economy line thats preventing CCP from nerfing this horribly overpowered BPO. ________________________________________________________

Or keep production up higher then they never sell the ones they try to sell for double the price, so you work them out of the market compleet.
And what the last post said or more bpo's drops, that too will solve a part of the problem.

And what I want to add on, for the tech2 components needed to build tech2 items/ships you can make a deal with 1 of the tech2 component producers corps, then they are for that :)
