I used to record gaming stuff using the wegame client (www.wegame.com), but I quit when my laptop got too outdated. I recently bought a new computer, should I try wegame again or is it inferior to the alternatives listed in this devblog? |

Little sad about your choice of a Sunday for this event.
From my point of view one of the most fascinating aspects of EVE is the ebb and flow of activity that goes in hand with the primetimes of the "big" timezones (Oceanic, Russian, EU, US West, US East) approaching and passing.
But on weekends all player activity tends to blend together as players log on earlier and log off later than during workdays... I'm a NPC corp alt, any argument I make is invalid. |

There is a thread on reddit on the same topic, I wrote a reply there to this question:
It would be best to have the ingame music and other music turned off, since many videos may be shown together.
Having your comms would be great, since we're trying to communicate the fact that EVE is massively social science fiction simulator, where the world and its story is mostly written by its players.
In general, short, unedited clips would be better, since we're trying to portray what actually happened from the player's point of view. However, if you have great video editing and production skills and experience with making ingame videos and using advanced camera moves, then by all means go for it, just be ready to have your "baby" chopped up on the editing board, as it is mixed or placed side by side to other videos, player made and CCP made.
Thanks!

They even forfeit the copyright... wow. Youtube hosting the **** doesn't even do that. Hell in most of the world this isn't binding at all. Hell a corporation without exhaustive copyright handling legalese in the employment contract often doesn't have the power to take the copyright as much as they want.
Furthermore you are trapped in an authenticity disaster. If sending a link is all it takes for you to take the copyright. What if I were to send in Farjung's videos. Are they urs now? |

Use a little chuck of that trailer with the angry Merlin pilot , ( with the shitload of icons / sandbox thingy ) , kind of puts Eve really compressed.
Use market charts / TS overlays ( combat comms )

CCP would probably act as if they owned those videos, until the true creators contacted them about it. Then most likely CCP or the local police could contact you about, fraud. So might not be so wise to do.
You can always turn in a fake check to the bank to get real money from it. But perhaps not always the best idea. I'm not shitposting. |

"Rather than having a PC simply running EVE somewhere in the corner with a keyboard and mouse and risk the untrained audience spending their time angrily trying to open the door in the captainGÇÿs quarters or being serial suicide ganked in Jita"
Doesn't this say something about the game that deserves being looked into? I mean, as a game company, if you acknowledge that these are in fact negative aspects of the game experience, shouldn't there be some internal commitment to correct them?

I hope you dont plan to use it as some sort of advertisment becouse the second someone logs in to the game he will be feeling betrayed. Especialy when most of the time newbie will have to spend mining since they dont know anythink about ship fitting so they die in misisons constantly or buying new ships since griefer flipped his cans in training systems and he got poped. No form of advertisment will help when new player feels the game is diametricaly different then presented advertisment version of the "usual day". |

Foo Well, they have the same challenge with Dwarf Fortress. Now that's a game even more hard to get into. It should we noted, we have a full team dedicated to improving the usability and player experience, and they are doing a good job, IMHO. Still, even if it was all great and streamlined, you wouldn-¦t be able to get to grips and understand the depth of the EVE Universe in a hands on demo lasting 2-3 minutes. Plus people at museums are shy, the only people that engage in the interactive pieces are geeks and children, who have no fear of technology. |

INCENTIVE NEEDED!
players doing work for CCP by providing their recorded material to CCP, should be compensated. Since this collage is one of the rare massmedia promotionof the game and the dust eve universe. give people, whos material is shown in the final collage some thing. PLEX, Instant finish of one skill of choice (i get chills thinking about this ^^), implants, ships, i could go on here. But i honestly think that for what people will do here (put effort, time and nerves in etc.), and what CCP gets out of it, is not a fair trade.
happy capturing/editing

While displaying videos/metrics/whatever is cool and all, having it interactive should be a priority. Since that is what eve is. You don't watch things pass you by, you go out and change it.
Remember the butterfly effect video? Make an interactive version of that. Give the player a scenario, and different choices. Those choices affect the world in a certain way, and you proceed through some rudimentary storyline making choices: "Do I do X, Y, Z?" And at the end the consequences (good/bad/neutral) are shown to the player. That will have the most dramatic affect upon people. Being able to show that anyone can make an impact in one of the largest virtual worlds will make the most lasting impression than a bunch of videos and metrics. |
