Opens and renders fine. I was prompted to allow incoming network connections to the app, which I'm pretty sure also happened with the regular launcher. The spaceships in the viewer did display upside-down, though, as others have mentioned. |

The small window really is bothersome!!!! Makes it look like a thrown together work. Even if it is just a launcher, allow the window to be resized, or remove the browsing capability.
There should be no reason why you can't resize the window, but don't go to press as it is now.
Edit: It also asked to upgrade flash which it downloaded and installed very cleanly. |

The "Allow incoming connections?" dialog comes up very time you launch it, not just the first time.
The settings button (the wrench and screwdriver) seems to be missing, and not replaced by anything giving the same functionality. http://vincentoneve.wordpress.com/ |

I downloaded it and it ran fine on my machine. The only thing I notice was that some of the items wouldn't load like if there was a star map or something similar. The ships where upside down for me but that was already reported.
I did find it loaded much much faster than the current one I can wait for the live version. |

OpenGL is the way, and not the privative, un-interoperable, DirectX crap. This test is purely related to the EVE Launcher on Mac. A full on OpenGL renderer is a little out of my purview both technically (i've no clue about rendering engines) and professionally (it's not a project I'm involved in) so I can't really speak to it.

Vincent Athena wrote:The videos did play for me. One oddity: When I pressed the button to go to full screen I got no video at all. It was still playing, I could hear the sound. But the screen was just what it was before I pressed the full screen button, less a video being played in its initial window. Pressing esc brought it back.
Edit: I do not know if its supposed to be there, but I see no way to make the launcher window a different size.
The ship viewer not only shows ships upside down, but the camera movement is upside down too. (Moving the mouse up and down causes the opposite movement of the ship model).
The EVE Launcher isn't supposed to be resizeable, since I simply took the existing EVE Launcher (albeit with a new shiny embedded browser) and pointed it at a known website

Thank you for your feedback, however it's not meant to be a fully usable browser like Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. The Windows version of the EVE Launcher also contains and embedded browser, to enable the display of dynamic content, rather than a static bitmap such as the Mac version currently has. As such, the inability to resize the browser isn't something that is likely to change. The fact that the eveonline.com webpage is larger than the browser window doesn't really matter in this case.
That said, thank you for your time in testing this, it's always good to get more eyes on. Product Owner, EVE Launcher | Team Special Circumstances |

Do you have any more information? This is exactly the kind of stuff that I'm most interested in! If it's failing on some computers I deatly want to know why so that we can attempt to ensure that it doesn't happen when it goes live.
Please, please, please dig out the app and we can possibly do some debugging so to find the root cause. Product Owner, EVE Launcher | Team Special Circumstances |

You need to register it in Apple's App store. Its currently flagging on my machine (and im sure others) that since Ive security levels set to not run unregistered apps.
EDIT: Or register yourself as a developer with Apple. But the way security settings are on Lion and Mountain Lion, its best to register with Apple directly.
Ive no issues once I bypassed the security check for apps. Looks great, cant wait to see it fully in action. |

Using a 2 yo Mac Book Air (OS 10.8.2) video via 42" HDMI TV
Download was smooth and quick - no issues Needed to launch from Finder (using control key + click) as settings were for Apple registered products only Found small inflexible window size a problem (but not in scope as you state previously) Dropdown menus (and page navigation generally) seemed to work OK as did video playback (noting ship inversion) Even Starmap view loaded without problem - maybe quicker than ingame. Fullscreen for some videos (Retribution trailer) kept sound but lost vision, other maximised to within window correctly.
Hope this helps - if theres anything more you need let me know.

It runs fine for me. I'm on a Late 2009 Macbook Pro, 2.8 C2D, 8 GB RAM, Nvidia GeForce 9400M/9600M, MacOSX 10.7.5. Below is a short list of notes:
- The launcher ran quite smoothly overall.
- HTML5 OpenGL renders upside down, as others have pointed out. Fullscreen for this didn't work though.
- Videos worked fine, but I couldn't normally full screen them (same as others); however, I was able to full screen them and then command+tab to the hidden full screen window, at which point it worked.
- EVE Gate, Google+, Twitter, etc. worked perfectly, and https seemed to work as well since I was able to login to all three without any problems. Actually, Twitter beautifully resized itself as if it was built for the launcher. (We were able to reach these websites via the links on the bottom of the main EVE Online website page.)
- All of the embedded browser's hotkeys (e.g. control+S) and context menu (right click) were disabled, as I assume was intended.
- The EVE Launcher Settings (via the 's' key) worked except: (a) text wasn't formatted properly, (b) I couldn't save, (c) the 'range of ports to use' textboxes needed to be wider. Screenshot
- Attempting to quit after having the launcher open for more than a few seconds caused a ~10 second delay in which my cursor 'spun' and the webpage grayed out. After this delay, it closed properly. The logs don't report an error for this, so I'm not sure why it would take so long to close. It occurs for both command+Q and the window's 'x' button. This is probably the biggest issue I had. Screenshot
- Just to be sure, I ran both the EVE Online client and the launcher together; there weren't any issues.
Here is my log file. It says there was a NoneType error at some point (not when closing the launcher though), but I didn't experience anything abnormal as far as I can recall. I hope this helps. |

The signing is currently being worked on, and should come in a later build. The recent change to GateKeeper threw a spanner in the works, but will be resolved before we release this.

Thank you for the detailed feedback, it's much appreciated. The Launcher settings tab is still work in progress specifcally regarding the width of the port input boxes. It's good to have the wrapping information though, since I had thought that bug fixed.
I'll look into the performance for process termination. I'm not sure what could be causing the 10 second delay, but it's definitely not acceptable. Product Owner, EVE Launcher | Team Special Circumstances |

There's a Google+ link at the bottom of the main website. Clicking that takes you to CCP's Google+ page, then clicking "Search" at the top takes you to google which will take you pretty much anywhere.

Anytime, I'm glad to see the [mac] launcher getting some iteration. I'll run any updated versions of the beta launcher that you post to see if the closing delay goes away. Is anyone else experiencing the closing delay that I mentioned, or is it just me?
Also, you stated that you'd like to hear some suggestions for the launcher. Do you mean small, mac-based ones, or a bit larger iterations for the launcher in general?

Hi,
15-inch, Early 2011 MPB 2.3GHz 8G Ram OS X 10.8.2 with all the silly security turned off
Same comments as most
Could not break it Ran fast and smooth No problems with EvE site appart from the upside down ships No problems with a few other sites
Did find that I could not un-minimise the app - Pressed the yellow dot, double-clicked the icon in the launch bar that normally restores a minimized app, but noting. Repeated several times with 100% failure
Keep up the great work, Mac-Love for the win! |

I have a 2012 Retina MacBookPro with Mountain Lion.
The new launcher looks good, but there are a few minor points:
- I don't see any on screen button to open the launcher settings window. The keypress method does open the window.
- It seems to have trouble opening the starmap with 'Ships Lost', 'Jumps Last 30 days' and 'Sovereignty Changes'.
- It is not Retina-aware and doesn't use the full screen resolution for rendering the web pages.

Now that we have Sisi, buckingham, duality and god knows whatever else test server comes up, would be nice to be able to click Duality and have it make a duality folder....
EvEclonemaker is still a multi boxers best friend, integration would be awesome or some other way to allow multi boxing
Having a login in the launcher and being able to choose a account or even characters would probably be too much to ask.... |
