Edited by: Kiiith on 05/05/2005 11:19:15 this might have been asked before, but i dont really have time to look.
which would be a better path to take, battleship or heavy assault ship. i know the skills for heavy assault ships are very high, but is it worth it? it'll be used for PvP eventually, but missions for the time being.
i just started training for my first assault ship(enyo), then was gonna go for the deimos, but im also considering a megathron instead.

bs you can d oalot more things with, but a hace aint waht you want to go up against. I'm getting both so why don't you try and get both. BS trianing ain't that long and to be an excellent bs pilot u need most skills at 5. BS first then HAC. ___________________________________ Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante Gallante |

BS before HAC normally, unless you are training up a second account and can support your HAC addiction from your other one.
Remember, you are likely to loose more HAC's then you will BS. Secondly, losing a HAC is gonna hurt just as hard as losing a BS or in case of deimos, even harder. Thirdly, you dont make money in a HAc as easily or diversely as in a BS.
Most prequisites for heavy assaults are part of BS training anyway, you could start with getting most to lvl 3 and then concentrate on the HAC related BS skills a bit earlier then you'd otherwise do. What's left will be cruiser lvl 5 and assaults to lvl 4, which is pretty doable.
Oh, and Kaeten, I'd reduce the length of that...line of ..something. It's stretching the forums.

Battleship first - definitely.
The HAS class is a refinement of the cruiser class, and as such each ship has a specialist role. Battleships offer you more opportunities to experiment; whereas there are definitive setups for HAS ships. Also, HAS are expensive to replace - not only in terms of monetary value, but due to the fact that unless you know someone in the industry, you'll have to wait a while for a new one (or pay an inflated price on the market).
Buy a Battleship, have fun and get to know how it works, then when you've got the skills for cruiser-class T2 modules and extensive combat experience, get a Heavy Assault Ship.

Edited by: Kiiith on 05/05/2005 13:37:37 Edited by: Kiiith on 05/05/2005 13:35:49 ya, i was thinking i would go battleship first, since the only skill i need for that is cruiser lvl4, which i will need for the deimos eventually. im still about 20 days from my enyo, so im still not 100% sure if i'll go on to get the HAC.
can a deimos take on a battleship 1v1, or is it mostly a frig/cruiser killer?
also, are there any skills which i should have before getting the deimos, apart from the skills necessary to fly it?
and one last thing, what is the dominix like? since i'll probably be going for a battleship first, it'll either be the dominix or megathron, but since the dominix is half the price of a mega, and has very nice drone capacity, i was thinking i might go with that. i'd be able to use 11 heavy drones in that, which would be sweet.

domi is quite nasty ship and if you are low on sp, go for domi, as it is better than mega in most things. Mega is just insane dmg dealer, but with low skills that does not work.

i'm one of those anti-BS freaks as in i just wont bother gettin in one...Oh yeah whoever said BS more versatile? yeah right...
To me HACs are faster, more manouverable, more surprising and excels at their role.
Hunting in a HAC aint all too different either. My demios against guristas is a sweet ship, taking 50 dmg from a juggernaught so i can tank a usurper, 2 conquisis and a few cruisers too. When i lost my deimos i already pocketed around 300mill so i could buy another. really, only get it if your confident of your cash income.
If your not as risky get a BS, more stable but in PvP areas you could get ganked real quick for slowness.

BS pwn everything, plus they are cheaper to replace and the financial recovery rate from PvE is greater as well.
That's all that needs to be said.

HAC's are very specialised: They do one thing extremely well, but outside of that they are not so good. For instance, Deimos is probably the best solo hunter in the game, Ishtar is (debatably) the best drone ship, Zealot is the best mobile gankalot, Sacriledge is an uber tank, Vagabond is irresponsibly fast and agile for a HAC, Muninn is like a mini Tempest. Only problem is the Caldari ones.
But go for HAC, they're waaay cooler than Battleships.

You need a lot of experience and a lot of good skills to be an effective HAC. BS's are still better at the end of the day, especially since target painters make it easy for bs's to poon cruisers.

Caldari aren't bad if you are willing to sink the right stuff into them.
Trick with caldari is that SP aren't what you wanna sink into them. Its iskies :) with 5 arbys on my Cerberus, it takes down 100k+ moas in no time, and seriously eases my friend's raven taking down other battleships. Not to mention you never need to worry about A) Being jammed or B) damage type difficulties. ---
