www.BIG-EVE.com
The BIG Lottery is celebrating it's 2 year anniversary this round.
It's the BIG Lottery's 2nd year anniversary T2 Extravaganza!
Special prizes for a special occation of course
As most will know, the BIG Lottery usually only sports a single prize "Winner takes it all" style.
But as this round is very special - We've of course decided to outdo ourself with prizes this time.
There's actually that many prizes, that your chance of winning one of them is around 10%-15% - Should we get the same amount of participants as we usually get. How about that for some nice odds (We expect a bit more participants than usual though )
The full list of prizes are
A * 500M ISK (from the lottery ticket sales) B * 200 days of paid EVE access (2*100 EVE time cards) C * 100 days of paid EVE access (1*100 EVE time card) D * 1x Deimos E * 1x Munnin + 5x 650mm Artilary II F * 1x Wolf + 4x 200mm autocannons II G * 1x Cheetah H * 1x Viator + 10MN A/B I * 1x Ishtar J * 1x Cerberus K * 1x Hawk L * 1x Special Prize Pack consists of : 1x 100MN A/B 2 1x Co-Processor 2 1x Dual Light Pulse laser 2 1x Modualted strip Miner 2 1x Electron Blaster 2 1x Neutron Blaster 1x 1200mm Artilary2 1x 200mm Autocannon 2 1x ECM Phase Invertor 2 1x Tracking Computer 2
Prizes D through L are all sponsored by BIG Sales!!!
How about that for a BIG mouthfull
Enjoy - and Good Luck
Sponsor
25M ISK donation from the Fountain Alliance (FA) The FA is sponsoring the BIG Lottery in order to promote awareness of the FA passport program. Buying a passport allows you entry to the Fountain Region for hunting purposes (no mining). A passport costs 5M ISK for a day, and 25M ISK for a week.
To get your passport simply contact a FA member in channel 'Fountain'.
Remember the drawing of the new, the 53rd 2 year anniversary, round of the BIG Lottery is on Monday, May 23th, 1800 EVE time (GMT) in ingame channel 'BIG Games'.
Good Luck

not sure i like the time-card things... would rather have a spare cerberus... :P
looks good tho, will try and remember to enter :) (oh. an idea. it looks like youve put the prizes in order of effectiveness/cost. How about allowing people to trade in the prize they win for a lower one? would make people less likely to end up with things that are useless to them.)

on the day of the draw, people gather in a channel for the lottery.
A request is put out for them to pick some random numbers in a certain range (depends on ticket slaes)
Then using a math formula, we choose the winning number.
Looking at the ticket sales DB, we then know who had that ticket and they win.
I believe that a number will be chosen for each of the prizes. And remember, if you can't or don't want to use it, feel free to take the ship and sell it. Those HAC are worth 55+ million each.

You dont have to memorize you ticket numbers. All of the ticket numbers are saved with the name of the person who bought the ticket in our database. When the random number is picked we simply go to the number in the database and see who bought it, and then contact that person

How is the winner found? The winner is found by a random draw. A participant who has bougth 2 tickets will have twice the chance of winning as someone who has bought only 1 ticket.
No..
You have the same chance of winning, two times....

I think the BIG Lottery are doing and have done a great job over the previous 52 draws and may we all lookforward to the next 52
Nashi, I have a question about the way the draw is done. Can you give me an insight into how the formula works based on the number randomly chosen is input.
I.E is the input no. only used as a number of cycles the DB will do before spitting a winner etc...
Or for example if the no. is a 43 you choose the 43rd ticket in 100 selected at random from the DB.
Just curious.

Hi Big,
Is it too late to enter for this huge anniversary draw?
I can buy a total of 5000 tickets per character at 1,000isk per ticket = 5m isk per character right?
When (time and date) is the draw for this?
What is the channel name?
Many thanks and looking forward to joining in :)

Edited by: nashi on 12/05/2005 14:13:03 Yep, you can buy tickets until the Sunday before the Draw. Please follow the directions on the website for how to buy a ticket.
The math is you request the people in the channel to name numbers in the ticket count range. Say 100-1000. You take most of those numbers (usually 75%-all) and add them together. Next you divide that by the highest ticket number. Then you find the remainder and that is the winning ticket.
It's refered to as a modulus equation.
It looks like this for tickets 100-1000
567 438 369 101 983
add them together: 567+438+369+101+983 = 2458
Divide the total by the total tickets: 2458 / 1000 = 2.458
Find the remainder: 1000 * 0.458 = 458
Winning Ticket is *458*
Of course Excel does all this for you with one of it's functions so it's a bit faster. We also encourage people in the channel to calculate this also, never hurts to have people checking your math. (MOD is the name of the Excel Function)

Copied from the Lottery page:
How to deposit money to "BIG Games" (buy a ticket)
* Open addressbook (2nd icon from the top) * Enter the name 'BIG Games' and press Search * Rightclick the portrait of BIG Games and select "Give Money" * Enter the ammount of ISK and hit OK
Please note that the database is manually updated with the accountance info from the wallet of the char "BIG Games", so the lottery info will not (currently) be updated in real time. We will try to update multiple times a day.
Rules
1) You can buy more than one ticket. You can do this with one deposit (say 5K ISK) or multiple purchases. 2) Tickets bought will not be refundable. 3) If you pay in 1,400 ISK, the 400 ISK will be treated as a "donation" to BIG, and will not be refundable If you later pay in 1,600 ISK the 600 will again be treated as a donation. So you only get 2 tickets - and not 3 as if you had payed 3K at once. Any amounts below 1,000 ISK, ie. 567 ISK, will also be treated as a donation. 4) BIG will keep 10% of the deposited ISK - the rest will be payed out as prize money. 5) BIG will only pay out as much in prize money as have been deposited into the lottery via ticket sales (minus the 10%) 6) Mails send to BIG Games will most likely go unread and not be answered. Mails requiring the CSPA charge of 100 ISK, because you have not added BIG Games to you addresbook will never be answered. 7) No member of BIG is allowed to participate in the lottery
Special rule for this round:
* No more then 5000 tickets (5m isk) can be bought per char (if you put more then 5m isk, the rest of the money is treated as a donation).
Interesting fact:
* In each of the previous 52 rounds, BIG have waived it's 10% administration fee.

How is it not random when the people taking part are picking a series of numbers out the air, the first 4 to show on Big Games screen are the ones used.

Edited by: Voltaire Leriel on 13/05/2005 00:48:53 Well, we don't pick the numbers and you guys can't see the database - so you can't cheat and we don't pick who wins.
Plus I think what nashi gave was just an example, we use more than the first few numbers; he said we try to use as many as possible.
I can tell you from past lotteries, that we are not biased as to who wins the lottery, we have had players win that where actually fighting against us at the time. (In fact the one instance I remember, it was a guy who put the entire pot onto his bounty :P)
Anyone can win the lottery, ANYONE.
PS: the website IS down, but it is not crucial to the ticket buying (as that is all done by hand anyway.) - so if you want information on how to play the lottery:
Quote: Copied from the Lottery page:
How to deposit money to "BIG Games" (buy a ticket)
* Open addressbook (2nd icon from the top) * Enter the name 'BIG Games' and press Search * Rightclick the portrait of BIG Games and select "Give Money" * Enter the ammount of ISK and hit OK
* 1,000 ISK per ticket, 5000 ticket limit, so the max is 5,000,000 ISK to get 5,000 tickets.
Please note that the database is manually updated with the accountance info from the wallet of the char "BIG Games", so the lottery info will not (currently) be updated in real time. We will try to update multiple times a day.
