While I suspect there are a lot of alt accounts, I think most would be signed in already. You would really need a lot of older players to return to smash that record. So try and get your friends back into the game, buy them a PLEX and let them use it under that "Plex for time" option that lets them log in for a few hours to buy/activate a plex. [If that is still a option]
Also being a carebear, I would add that I enjoy this expansion, brings a bit of spice into my side of the sandbox.

if you think that alts didn't have an impact on previous records, you're clearly mistaken.
you do raise a good point though. the "players" connected should be unique IPs

I tend to agree with this, I rather see an increase in subscriptions with real dudes/dudettes behind their screen than log in the gazillions alts for fluff and funky stuff.

I fail to see why logging in alts as a show of support and appreciation to CCP is a problem.

Chances are that if everyone logged in at the same time with all their alts, CCP's servers would melt very fast. I doubt they're able to handle more than 60k playersat any time. |

Then you don't really know their servers that well. (Note that this is last with year's equipment, and improvements and expansions since have probably increased their 300K+ capabilities.)

I see nothing wrong with planning a record attempt. Most records are broken when people put in the effort to break them.
I see nothing wrong with using alts. All PCU records were broken with the help of alts. And the last one was broken with the help of mass botting. At least now that has been beaten down to some extent.
The peak typically occurs between 1800 and 2000 eve time so the current plan has the right timing.
But why Saturday the 15th? Sunday is the typical biggest day.
