It's funny, even though the carebears are raging login numbers are pretty stable/going up. Might be an indication of something, eh?

I tend to agree with this, I rather see an increase in subscriptions with real dudes/dudettes behind their screen than log in the gazillions alts for fluff and funky stuff.

Chances are that if everyone logged in at the same time with all their alts, CCP's servers would melt very fast. I doubt they're able to handle more than 60k playersat any time.

Scheduled record-breaking shouldn't count. It should be spontaneous.

I see nothing wrong with planning a record attempt. Most records are broken when people put in the effort to break them.

I see nothing wrong with using alts. All PCU records were broken with the help of alts. And the last one was broken with the help of mass botting. At least now that has been beaten down to some extent.

The peak typically occurs between 1800 and 2000 eve time so the current plan has the right timing.

But why Saturday the 15th? Sunday is the typical biggest day.

A lot of people probably just don't know what time that is in relation to their own timezone.

For those on the US east coast that's 1pm to 3pm, on a saturday.

It's easy...I am in Mountain time which is -7 GMT. I subtract 7 hours from whatever time it is in EVE. Pacific time is -8 if I am not mistaken and Central and Eastern are -6 and -5 respectively. I think...

if you think that alts didn't have an impact on previous records, you're clearly mistaken.

you do raise a good point though. the "players" connected should be unique IPs

The thing is, the previous login record was set during an alliance tournament when CCP called for a mass login at the peak of Eve's popularity.

Eve has been bleeding subscribers since the summer of rage and shows no indication of that trend turning around.

THere just aren't enough eve players left to go for the record. Sorry.

We're still seeing the higher numbers Vaerah mentioned in sarcasm.

I fail to see why logging in alts as a show of support and appreciation to CCP is a problem.

And there lies one of the major issues with Eve....I'll buy another alt!
Alts are the true cancer of EVE, and the very attitude makes any record meaningless..

Well this attempt is so pathetic I certainly didn't bother, since it has zero chance of success. You simply can't do this stuff by posting the idea on a forum. You need to mobilize masses of people, not just put up a notice and hope others will do all your work for you. That means raising mass awareness in advance, getting as many player organizations to support the attempt as possible and most importantly creating incentives and activities for people who participate, so every individual will gain something just by participating.

What it is, is some pretty good ideas to fix mechanics that have been broken for years, but failure to anticipate the unintended consequences of said changes.

I had high hopes the first day or two, but you could see how this was going to pan out.

The Bounty system became the new griefing tool of choice.
The low initial bounty caused an absurd amount of useless mini-bounties that make it hard to figure out who is worth shooting.
The Killrights system has already been gamed, people using alts to get killrights to sell and make a profit.
The suspect system was a great idea, but it's pretty much become docking games and a baiting tool.
The idiot switch was the worst idea ever, cement in the sandbox.

Eve is a great concept, but I'm afraid CCP will never make it into the game it should be.

I got 6 accounts. Never had more than 2 logged in at the same time... Well maybe 3 but never all 6...

6 here too and most of the time, all 6 at once,(multiple monitors) then add my son's account from his comp and we have 7 :P
