Basically, what you're saying is that people who enjoy high-end content should have to waste their precious Real Life time traveling, and those who enjoy newbie stuff should get instant gratification? Lemme guess...your character is less than two months old?
Seriously, putting more time-sinks into the game will greatly reduce subscriptions. I know a lot of people, myself included, who won't put up with a 5-hour trip just to go 40 jumps. 1 hour is bad enough as it is.
I suppose that would be the perspective prevailing among the more vocal within the pvp community here, is to make everyone else waste more time, since time is the only real commodity within playing this game. Blow up someone else's ship = time lost. Force them to rebuild and refit, which takes time. Destroy their pod = potential time lost. Similar time sink as replacing a ship, except that there is a buffer in terms of time, before the loss is felt. Also, among the more vocal pvp supporters in how they support the idea of loss in this game compared to the lack of loss in games like WoW, making this game "better". The real focus on "Better" should be the actual gameplay, not if the other guy has to wait X time in order to start playing again at the same point they were prior to losing. This is where the "grind" lost alot of people in games such as EQ.
I think that alot of people dont understand is that people do not like to just waste time for no real reason. Granted there are many flawed game mechanics within eve, but removing one without retooling how the entire travel system works isnt the answer that will yeild positive change within the game. It is reminicant of how generalist the ships are, in terms of not being thought through. It is reminicant of introducing redundant ships and modules, that do not even serve a real purpose because the ships/modules are truncated by another ship/module combination. Eve may be the biggest game world out there, but the travel system and the distribution of resources, also cause the game to have the most unused space among games out there. The unused space causes the total size of the game to become redundant, unless the developers were going for a single player experience. This is not the case, due to all the other mechanics of play within the game to make things like production, combat, and marketing fluid.
