Personally i dont want to see Dread BPO's enter in to the game. I think they should be NPC produced or only BPC's avaliable on the market. My reason behind this is there are not enough isk sinks in the game and i think this would provide a good oppertunity to introduce one.
What does everyone else think?

I rekon thats a good idea, i hate people getting all the BPO's of something and setting insane prices for them.
Having NPC's produce them i think would be a good idea, have a storyline thing for them in the news and have certain corps produce them etc. ----------------------------------------

Signed. If the BPO's is in the lottery, one alliance could get a big upper hand in a few wars.

Dreads are tech 1 ships aren't they? Unless a dev said anything to contrary that means dread BPOs will be sold on the market by NPCs and not come from R&D and its lottery.

If you do the lotto then the price on them will be high and keep the numbers down but this only lasts a few weeks at best.
If you make them NPC then they build a fair number and we will see a lot of players in them lotto or not there gona be the New BS and there is nothing we can do.

I think that if a BPO comes on the market, who is going to even invest in one? It will cost an insane amount of money, and the sales will be so infrequent and production times would be so long that it would not be a worthwhile investment on a reasonable timeframe.
But, I have nothing against them getting released either so don't take my next suggestion to the contrary.
Here is what I think would be a good idea. Obviously, they wield a large amount of firepower. Any empire, fictional game or real life, would try to limit the sale and distribusion of these ships for the good of all right? (or so they would say anyway, lets not draw that one out into a political debate now)
So, to get one you have to go to a special agent who works for a production branch of a specific npc corp in one of the 4 major player empires. So for example, I would have to go to the Minmatar Fleet and speak to a specific agent in Pator or at their HQ station, and request one to be built. This would be accepted on various terms such as your corp's standing, or some complex calculation between your corp and alliance standing with the alliance standing value being weighted somehow. Anyway, either way, or a different set of factors, it all boils down to them not wanting to sell their empires most dangerous ships to people with really bad standing against that empire.
My corp's and alliances standing is pretty low against the Amarr, for obvious reasons. And the same is true of the Caldari being sympathetic to the Amarr in a small way. So that instantly means no one in my alliance can go to the Caldari fleet or the Amarr fleet and request one of these ship, because we would be thrown out of the office so fast our asses would hit the ground running.
Actually, 2 years ago when I was getting ready to join EVE, I read the poorly outdated, and legendary Prima strategy guide for days while I waited for Broadband to be installed in my home, and I could install and play EVE. The description of the Apocalypse battleship had me thinking that maybe this was the only way to get an Apoc in the first place. That a player had to have high standings with the Amarr Empire to even beable to buy one. Obivously then I had no idea how the game worked and the markets within. But I did think that was a good idea at the time.
And it would add a racial boundery to who can get what ship, and add more dynamic to the battlefields as each Dread would have it's own uniqe characteristics like all the other ships.
Anyway, thats just my wild-eyed shot in the dark. Feel free to rip it appart while I go get some sleep. ------

I dont think they should be BPOs. Sold on the market straight by these navies would be better... as well as needing you and your corp to have high standing with that faction.

I agree. BPOs would make them too common and less dear. Plus BPOs are generally a dumb way to sort things out although scarcity is important.
Rare 1 run BPC handouts are the way to go. It can be by lottery or event, it doesn't really matter. Personally I'd prefer if it wasn't strictly tied to the agent system, but it could be coupled with it. I think people would really like it if RP points simply gave people options on BPCs The free RP would have to go of course, or all RP giveaways should also require isk and stuffs.
The best idea for the market is a complete BPO/BPC concept overhaul, and it should have been done years ago. A renewable multirun BPC license with diminishing returns has always been the best path for replacing both.

Alliances.
I am sure they can afford it, but the key word was 'invest'. Why would they buy a BPO that will most likely cost at least 50x the price of the ship, then build only one for themselves anyway? Because it's unlikely that they will be mass producing them and selling them to all bidders since all bidders might not be able to afford them anyway. Not really a wise investment since they will not most likely see a return on it for at least a year. ------

Surely an alliance can buy a BPO and make a few for themselves? From this they can win wars with them instead of selling.

Yes Alliances will buy dreadnoughts bpos for sure, remember they are key factor in destroying pos, and it could really harm enemies wallet, losing poses. And i think alliances will build much more than few dreadnoughts, there would be tons of peoples that would be able to fly one, and many would probably be able to afford it if they would cost less than 1-2 billion each

How about NO Dreads main role is going to be killing POS therefore PVP Missions are boring and there is no way these should be released via the agent system.

I wouldn't want them sold by NPCs only. Perhaps NPCs could sell them just to keep the prices in check, and give them some visibility for the first couple months, though. But only stock the market with 1 every week for the first 2 months or something.
I'd also like to see them be impossible (or nearly so) to be built by a single corp. Maybe sell BPOs as pieces of the ship. Command module, propulsion array, main hull, etc. Each part requires a massive amount of low end mins, and a large amount of things that have to come from empire, like robotics, RAM, etc. Make like 3 or 5 parts, each one taking a significant, but doable, effort to build, and transportable in a freighter. Take them all to a large POS shipyard assembly, drop them all off and watch over the next 3 weeks as it's constructed. Of course, building something that is such a threat to the empire factions would be illegal, so only 0.0 POS's... Oh, and watch closely, because it'll be obvious, and some corp wanting to prevent you from getting it could show up in their own dread(s) and blow the POS to pieces.
The shipyard itself would require resources also to keep running, so there's going to have to be a supply chain keeping it up constantly for those 3 weeks. They might have a small fuel bay, so they'd have to be restocked every day or two. So now you have a supply chain that has to be defended.
They wouldn't be cheap, but you probably wouldn't be building them for direct sale to the market, you'd be building it for your own corp's use. As far as parts and mins go, it would probably be 500 mil or so per piece (figuring 5x the amount of trit as a BS, or around 50 million trit = ~150 million ISK), but the effort involved would make them rare, not the cost or the skills. You could probably build one for next to nothing if you were willing to go to the effort to mine it all yourself (with your corp or alliance, of course). I could see an alliance building one, but if it got destroyed too quickly, they'd have a tough time building morale up enough to attempt it a second time.
Geez, add in the effort to build the tech 1 versions of their guns, not even considering the tech 2s...
Like I said, I don't think that either cost -OR- skill requirements will make these things rare. Using skill reqs to keep stuff rare is rediculous. Once you have the skills, you have them, and if they're required to fly the coolest ships, everyone and their dog will train it in as short a time as possible. Effort involved in the building should keep these rare. And that effort should be rewarded.
All this is irrelevant, though. At this stage, the devs have already decided how they're going to be built, I'm sure, and what they'll cost to build, etc. ---

1. To paraphrase "Dreads are for PvP, missions are boring" How exactly do these statements go together? Unless you mean that only combatants should be involved in Dreads, in which case...
2. That means no miners or industrialists since they don't PvP and are I assume "Boring" So How are Dreads going to be built, or should they just appear in your hanger?
3. Mission runners should be involved in Dreadnaught construction, and indeed Titan construction. Why? Because perhaps that would mean that in order to buiold the best ships in the game you'd need all different career paths to get involved. Or perhaps we should just leave mission as a sole grind aspect and not bother trying to get them to interface into the rest of the game? .+ (_) Fetch the holy hand grenade |

That was already done with tech 2 components, and all that resulted was price gouging. If mission runners want to do so, let them grind how they want to, any suffeciently sized corp has a few of these anyway so getting components from them wont be a problem anyway. ~~ Hyey

That idea seems to be a very good one I especially like the idea of them being illegal to build in empire forcing people to either haul or mine in 0.0 which would be no easy feat if someone did find out about it. _ _ How many pilots does it take to wire a Flux Capacitor? 3, 1 to wire it and 2 to talk about how the old one was better. |
