voice is ok, it's nice for a change, but would be good to keep the old one too as an option.
i'm not too keen on the new font, but i like the way colours will mean we can be abit more creative with the MOTDs :)

Dangit, very little to no accent does not equal british !
(OK English, private school, elocution lessons or fake hollywood "english" maybe)
Your average brit has a fair bit of accent :p ("British" also includes wales, scotland and northern ireland lets not forget, though most english have strong accents too, I mean listen to someone from tyneside, yorkshire, kent and so on and so forth and theres no way you could say theres no accent) . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

I agree. For those (presumably most) people here who have never visited Iceland, let me advise you that most of them speak English. Their pronunciation, grammar and diction, to say nothing of their accents, are usually heart-breakingly good - they put many an Englishman to shame!

Why did they get Liz Hurley to do the EVE voice? Yeuch.
Please change it back CCP before it goes live... it's absolutely horrible. I loved the old voice, it gave the computer a slightly "disconnected" feel which was very apt. The new one just ruins the mood of the game.

Not as daft an idea as it sounds tbh, they should let us make 'voice packs' so we can put whatever voice we want on there.. like Neverwinter Nights for an example.
I mean, if they really must change it considering that there was nothing wrong with it in the first place that is. And if they're trying to reach Korean markets etc (ie: if that's the reason), this would be ideal.
It's not as though there's anything else in the game worth spending some programmer / content time on.

Edited by: Manasseh on 23/06/2005 01:07:50 But then again CCP, why are you changing the voice? You want to reach the asian market, cool we're with you on that, but what has that got to do with our beloved EvE voice. If anything record an asian voice in korean or mandarin (or whatever) for the new asian market, 'cos they probably wont appreciate the new voice anyhow as it is definately still far removed from their regional accents.
But for the benefit of the doubt what is the justification for changing our beloved EvE voice?
"...connecting..."

Ok, korean lnaguage support, and cyrillic too, new font engine wroom wrooom ok fine but whats with the voice? Whos idea was this?
If you need it to utter new things, you should bend over backwards to get it done with the old voice character, gloody bell!
I sugest you cut time from these things and spend it on fixing the module fitting requirement prediction routine instead of this potential nonsense

Hmmmm
New voice 4tw, sounde much more sexeh :) lol.... but still far cooler if you had a min/gal/cald/amarr voice, or at least make the tut voice match
New font 4tw, much clearer to read at 2048x1536 without wasting large ares of your screen like the large font.
New formatting? get rid of it now plz

Just looked at patch 3501 - the female voice that pops in on parts of the tutorial is GREAT! It has just a hint of effects to make it sound a bit unworldly while still being very easy to understand. Good job - record more like that! |

Hadn't noticed this comment before, but I can only heartily agree (although Jade Falcons whups da Bears anyday).
The person doing the Mechwarrior voice did a great job, as did Activision in adding a hard metallic quality to it.

I've never had an issue with people typing in other languages font wise it always adapts to whatever language is used, i have yet to see eve display a little box in the chat channels.
Secondly i love the new voice it makes eve sound real, i mean i really don't want a ships computer to sound like an apple mac, next you'll be adding the mac "Its not my fault" sound whenever you get a session change message :/

Originally by: VOTM Okay. I have had a play around with the new patch and I have come up with this.
I would also like to say that these changes are the first ones I have ever truly disliked so please don't write me off as a serial complainer. I am writing this because I feel they will truly change the character of EVE.
Please do not change EVE to this monster
FONT The old font was superb and appropriate to eve, the new font is so generic and hints of comic sans which is, imo a childish font, not what eve is about at all.
CHAT INTERFACE Staying with the chat theme. The chat system was previously perfect, with the exception of you not being able to choose any text sizes to view ALL text from your side. Adding formatting abilities to the text client is an awful idea (imo), which will make reading eve a pain for everyone involved. Reading size 36 magenta font in trade channel is not my idea of fun. Especially when placed next to size 8 lime green or cyan.
Illustrating my point
Having everyone use the same formatting was easy to read, understand and kept the professionalism and dignity of eve alive. This new system spits on that dignity and that is a truly upsetting thing.
VOICE OVER If you do change the voice over, please let us choose between the new and old one. I love the old voice over, it sounded so integrated, so perfect. It was someone talking to you in the pod. This new one is grating, commanding and sounds so plastered over that it breaks the immersion. While I understand it probably isn't the final voice it is horrible as it is and you will have to make it pretty spectacular to make me convert.
I hope I have formulated this is a clear and concise arguement, but if you need clarity on anything I will be happy to oblige.
Agreed on all parts.

CCP want to break into the korean/japanese/russian etc markets, in order to do that the client has to support chat fonts using other than latin-based characters, thats the reason they had to re-write the chat system.
Also most of the font problems beyond legibility were solved already when they pre-nerfed the new font system - removing all but italics from normal channels I believe. I think that was already said earlier in this thread, but I suspect it has gone beyond the length where most new people to it will actually read it to realize that. . ----- Apologys for any rambling that may have just occurred.

So Zyrla--That means you like it the way it is with the new patch and those choices between BIG and HUGE ?
Breaking into a market is one thing, but alienating your current playerbase with not even giving a choice to set to your used look and feel is another.
Keep all that new stuff, just ADD AN OPTION to switch back to the old font (at your own risk) and maybe adjust its output color for the client !
Thanks, Myra

yes please, i dont like the new font. I need small, clear low contrast fonts, otherwise it will kill my eyes..
light grey is a wonderful color.. even the old fonts were a bit too high contrast for me. WHy can't we just change the font/color ourselves? just for what it looks like on our end, much like with how miRC does things. ________

Does someone have a screenshot of the latest/new fonts on SiSi, or are we really going to be stuck with this monstruosity? ... If this is the case I guess I am going to be stuck in station with all chat windows minimized until the yells have reached epic proportions on the forums, once everyone has had the "chance" to experience all that live on Tranquility, and CCP finely decide to work on a better font. ... But hey, I guess I had to do that anyway to train all the new skills CCP kindly provided me to partially unnerf my missiles.
