Originally by: Bastogne Odd, I'm paying $14.95 a month. Also, tens of thousands of us pay every month, and it's totally worth it to us.
I've just never paid to play a game once I've already paid to own it. Granted, this is different since the client is free, but I wouldn't mind paying $50 to get the game and then not have any subscription fees after that. I played Neverwinter Nights online for a few years and that didn't cost me jack, and that was great fun. Why can't games keep going in that direction?
Because Neverwinter could be stand alone if you wanted it and also you didnt have to have a big infrastructure to keep it going you could play on some guys server that he runs out of his home, so no fee.
EVE has employee's dedicated to you as a consumer to making sure you have a good game experience. They also provide a HUGE infrastructure for you to play on that can handle 1000's of payers at any one time. So you see if you play a game like EVE you have to expect some cost otherwise the game prob would not be as cool as it is now.

Two accounts, started out with one, found out how much fun it was but hard to do things if others weren't on, willing to be your hauling slave. Started second account for hauling slave. Cross-trained so one account is strong in some areas (I.E. building), second account is strong in others (I.E. Selling/trade).
Just repaid my sub fee yesterday

It's got nothing to do with us, we pay in dollars not Euros and don't have to bother with VAT. Blame belgium if you have to blame anyone
UK Customers are billed in Euros as with other EU customers. We were originally billed in US $, but when they brought in the change for VAT, we moved to Euros. If your account is still being billed in $, you're a lucky mistake in the system.
How long ago was the change? It's just I only started up 3 and a half months ago. That was however from an old CD key account that I never used due to the graphics card I had at the time not liking Eve so I suppose that might explain it. .+ (_) Fetch the holy hand grenade |

This is, oddly, an interesting topic. :)
Myself, I find it worth the money, yes. For one, it keeps me occupied with one game instead of buying a bunch of single player games that I'll finish in a couple of days then they gather dust. So for that reason alone, it can be worth paying to play a single game for the long term.
But the question was, is EVE worth it. I think everyone who's played it long term has had their moments where they put the game down for a time. But I think the variety of features and the awesome community here is worth it.
That's just my 0.02 isk. But who really respects my opinion anyway. :)

Well over a year ago I think. I've run accounts from June 2003 and they changed from billing my card in $ (converted to sterling) to Euros (converted to sterling) automatically when they announced the billing change. Newer accounts for me have also automatically charged as Euros.
I suppose if your payment details were entered back before the change, and then the account only recently reactivated, it might not have been converted while it was closed, though that would have to assume you haven't altered your card details in the period either.

But $20 a month? That is absolutely absurd. I can't believe how many people are willing to pay that much to play a game. Game developers should be ashamed of themselves for charging so much.
Good to hear that you are enjoying your EVE trial. As for your question, I felt much the same about paying $10/month for a game subscription back in '97. On a college student's budget and not knowing how much time I would get to play, I thought I would never pay for a sub. A couple months later, I was given a game for Christmas and have been paying anywhere between $10 and $30 per month for different games since.
Most of the different forms of entertainment have seen a dramatic increase in price over the past decade. A $4 movie now is anywhere between $8-$13. Dinner for two can be upwards of $25 is you and your date are eating cheap. Paperbacks have gone from $3.50 to $7 or more. In most cases, entertainment prices have increased by 100% or more over 10 years, MMOG subs are closer to 50%.
Is it worth it? That depends on you, what you enjoy, what you can afford and if you think it is worthwhile. That's one of the reasons why CCP offers 14 day trials. You're sure not spending $50 for a retail box on a game that you may or may not like.

I pay per 6 months. $70 I think. So just over $10 a month. Compared to the (say) $40 per new game, and the $2 per hour it costs you, the current price is nothing.
Couple of hours an evening, maybe 5 hours at the weekend, that's say 10 hours a week. 40 hours a month. 25 cents per hour. Sounds fair to me.

Its surely worth the money, right now im trying out wow on a trial account, since my friends says eve is a bad game, boring game with nothing to do in it. But i disagree. So far nothing in other games have got me so hooked as EVE. Just wished i had the cash to go to the eve fanfest. I want to be an eve-groupie
Im not very rich myself but for the total entertainmentvalue this game give you, hell yeah!

Since I have EVE, i didn't:
- bought HL2 : 50Ç saved - bought Doom3 : 50Ç saved - played WoW : priceless ^^ (no i don't wanna play with 14 years old kids which think that they're the best and that you're crap, even if you beat them) - Saw movie like spiderman(no, I really don't like thoses movies from comics... maybe cause I don't like comics? well yes ^^): maybe like 80 Ç saved
And I'm not a EVE hardcore player. I play something like 1 hour per day, maybe 4 hours the weekend. (The rest of the time, I code or I play Guild Wars, Warcraft 3, UT2004). _______________________ Forums DSU |

There are only two games you will ever need.
1)Eve 2)Half Life 2 (so you can play CS:S during downtime).
I used to average a game or two per month, so Eve has actully saved me money. And that *includes* going to the fanfest and making the mistake of getting the first round of beers in (How much?!!!).

I hate that. I still have my orignal Dragonlance paperbacks, with price tags still attached: $2.50. Now I pay around $9 for a decent book.

US is still often cheaper than the UK, imho.
The number of US published books I've seen or bought that are converted at or near $1=ú1 on prices are too numerous to mention. Not to mention suppliers like Amazon.co.uk now usually offering the US editions over the UK prints to save on their own costs.
I now buy elsewhere as much as possible, to ensure UK editions and to help reduce the confusion.
I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when US/UK editions are published with different titles, or where series are even split up differently (a UK author's 2 book set was published as a trilogy in the US, leading to much disappointment when Amazon.co.uk claimed to have the 3rd book in the set, only for it to be a US edition containing 1/2 a book you've already read.)

I look at it this way...
I run my own business, when a customer has to question the amount I charge, I instantly leave.
If you are questioning the price, this game isn't for you. You will probably end up quitting in a few months.

Originally by: Larno It's $19.95 for the first month, then $14.95 for each month after that. The different billing intervals give you:
12 months @ 10.95/month 6 months @ 11.95/month 3 months @ 12.95/month 1 month @ 14.95/month
And you should think yourself lucky. We europeans have to pay in Euros which costs us 22.4% more than those paying in dollars.
Are you being serious that we pay more ?
Thats proper bull**** ! I pay for 3 accounts ... hmmm time to move abroad me thinks
Sadly, the EU dictates that any electronic supply made to a customer in the EU, even from outside, should be subject to VAT.
As a result, CCP charge EU players in Euros and everyone else in dollars. The impact of VAT and the slight movements in exchange rates differing between USD and Euros are what makes it more.
CCP don't earn more off us, they just have to add VAT on the price.
Do what I do.... change my address from 'UK' to 'America' - that way i am charged in dollars and my credit card company convert to ú.
/me suspects the billing dept is going to pwn you.
smart move posting it in general discussion ofc.

Dude, go 12 month increments!
I have 3 accounts as well...
3 accounts x $131.40 = $394.20/year
I save $144.00/year!
My GF cost's me at least $50/week
