Is any price a fair price to stop a war that has been declared on your corp?
I have just been told that a PvP corp is demanding 300Mill ISK to stop a war that was declared 12 Hours ago on a small mining\builder corp.
How would you deal with this?? Options I can think of are :----
1. Pay the ransome and risk the war still happening. 2. Hire a merc corp to declare war on the PvP corp. 3. Recruit PvP'ers into the mining corp. 4. Offer bounties for the PvP corp members corpses on the channels. 5. Shut down the mining corp. 6. Ignore the war declaration.
Comments please. |

Some merc corps dont ask for ISK.
You could offer them mins at a discount for example.
If you have a member list of the corp that war dec'd you may see some of them have poor sec status. The CEO for example is -3.1 - stay above .9 perhaps?
Alternatively, just stay under the radar. They may get bored.

I understand what you are saying about the security status of the members of the PvP Corp but not all of the members have negative standing and I have the feeling not all of the members support the war as the miner corp was a supplier of ships/modules to the PvP corp up untill war being declared. Now all that is in confusion.

If your corp genuinly cant defend yourself against them....
Sad as it may be (and frustrating) just hide... sit in stations... log. just generally **** them off... just make sure that none of your more stupid members (all corps have them) dont run around and get killed anyway... if you can go a week without a loss chances are the PvP corp will get ****ed off and retract it.. or Yulai will do it for you
Oh and if you decide to run off to some distant place to NPC or whatever.. DONT dock... that way locator agents cant find you.
Also dont recruit any new members, you dont want spies let in.

Yeah. There really should be some professional standardization to this extortion business. (I always wanted to say that. )
It could be a certain given base amount, add a factor [yMillion] times the active size of the extortion corp, add a factor [zISK] for the size of the losers or their combined sp in extrapolated months, add [.75-1.5] times any interim losses and prior or incipient losses [1-1.25].
This would be helpful because then those miners can sit there and plot it out on their work/time excel graphs and decide a superior payment plan and average interest rates over the financing period. This would help them get back to the negotiators sooner just before they knuckle under completely.
I should go into the consulting or negotiating business for a standard 5-10% fee.

When i was a young nublet and the noob corp i was in was declared upon we decided that we should not give in. Nor would we fight on their terms. We moved all our stuff to other places (we had been scouted out) and started making plans on how we should survive.
We decided to try some form of guerilla warfare. Stay away from their gankers and try to sneak up on them when they werent expecting it.
There was alot of hiding and running. they camped us and ridiculed us in local (all in a very amusing non-smack way).
Now when i look back i think it was probably the best times in my eve career and i still consider some of those guys my friends.
We lost a few ships of course but we also scored a few kills. We made alot of mistakes and learned alot by doing them.
My point is that you should try to fight back. You dont need to fight on their terms but its always good for the confidence to not give in.
Dont pay them, dont ignore them, dont listen if they complain that you dont fight the way they want you to. Fight them your way and have fun doing it. And who knows, some of them might even turn out to be ppl that you enjoy chatting with and continue to do so for the rest of your gaming career.
and, of course, they might turn out to be complete bastards. In that case they shouldnt get any of your isk anyway and my experience is that those guys usually have less patience and move along faster to try to find other ppl they can gank. good luck

I agree with the above try and fight back if you can try and stay in a large group and not get picked off.
If you find your getting hammered then look at other solutions.
You prob find the pvp action fun.
But never pay them!!! You're better off paying mercs

Buy a couple of frigate BPC's enough to make twenty or so frigates. Then go out and swarm them.

Thanks for all your postings, please keep them coming.
Not all members of the PvP corp actually want this war or even understand the reason, so hiring a merc corp to help out would not be fair on them.
Also the membership of the mining/building corp are leaving in droves as thats not the reason they signed up for, so it could be a dead corp very soon as its the people who make it.
I think the ideas being discussed here will help other corps when placed in the same situation in the future.

Agreed, travel fast and together, you might end up picking off one or two lone bs's. That'll **** them off.

Fightback in cheap frigs, you will probably have alot of fun! and it wont break the bank.
Or if your that scared of losing a 200k ship then hire a merc corp (alot of them out there are crap and jumped on to MC's bandwagon If you take the merc route shop around... Some examples...kia,any of the MC, Cult of Cuthulu, depends on how much isk you have tbh.

have a discussion with the other corp since you had business between the 2 corps it s very weird they re trying to war you thats damaging both corps , since if the war continues i think you will not be supplying em anymore, hence theyre cutting their arm and leg off might just be someone has been stepped on his(her) toes and this war declaration is just a big ego that needs some love
but never never give money if you do that once they can declare everytime they re low on isks , you ll be harvested continiously
wonder what they need the 300 mil for ?
so talk , it will probably be a personal thing . just make sure you have all ships insured and take off the best gear, fill em with just expendable gear. and watch local if they come in system warp away, use secure cans to mine or when using jettisoned always have a hauler directly next to it avoiding the enemie will make em get bored . if the discussion does not work out , then geurilla fight and the folks leaving , well too bad for em . if they go because of a war they why are they in a corp?

You will find that in a situation like this, option #2 is the only real option if you want to preserve your corp. Never pay out to pirate/pvp corps in this way, they will absolutely come back every time they need an influx of funds. And the money you would give to them is much better spent on mercenaries, it's guaranteed that if you do that, as well as use some careful planning as far as mining and so forth, your enemy will definitely start to feel it if the merc corp is of good quality.

That is utter rubbish, once a corp has paid the majority of corps will leave them alone, and if they are attacked the extortionist might even dec the attackers. Having said that another options is to hire a respected merc corp, such as ATUF, to deal with the transgressor

I use to run a Produciton type corp. When war was declared on it I had no freaken idea what to do myself, and just hid. After a while started losing members and so forth and had to start over again. Knowing what I know now, if you have 10+ active members, get into cheap frigs/interceptors/af's/cruisers (Noctice nothing to expensive, use frigs/cruisers and insurance pays for your loss, and give these guys a fight. They will get bored of killing nothing but frigs and cruisers, and after a while you may get good and be able to kill a few of them for some revenge.

Never give bullies money.
Give them what they don't want.....nothing to shoot at. Scatter in about 3 groups, and go somewhere and hide. Heck, put on long skill training and play Guild Wars for two weeks. Since is costs a corp next to nothing to dec War and grief a small mining/production corp for weeks.
