Hmm, I remember doing this mission a few days ago in my ferox. The only sentries I rememeber where the ones in the first area. But they were only firing light missiles.
I didn't have any real issues with this mission, except for when I went to pull a rat and go more than I bargined for Instead of getting the 1 or 2 I expected, I got about 10 of them .

I just did this mission last night. I really dont understand what the problem is. I decided to do it in a Brutix so that I could get a good judge on what this thread was about. Now I only have about 6 mil SP, but I never once even had to turn on the second Armor Rep. Even in light of the Sentries in the second room. The first thing I did when I seen them was take them out, and yes they did get me to armor pretty fast but 1 Large T2 Armor Rep was enough to Tank them. Maybe its more of a stratagy thing then a ship or SP fault.
Take out the Sentries Frist!!!!

Did it last night in my muninn with a friend in a zealot. No real probs. The slow rof on the cruise batteries helps of course, and with my mate on a short range setup killing little uns, and my muninn on a long range killin sentries and cruisers it all went swimmingly.
Loot drop laughable as usual.

Had this mission happen to me today, so rather reluctantly took it (deadspace makes me fall asleep really fast) ... am guessing it was toned down in the latest patch, and is now very doable in battlecruiser (on par with other lvl.3 missions i can remember)
Cruise batteries in first room don't fire until shot upon, and if you shoot at them from ~50 km then immediately fire a defender, it'll shoot down the cruise easily (the batteries fire slow enough to pretty much ensure you aren't going to see more than one missile per battery)
In the second room the sentries were limited to one Caldari Sentry II and one Caldari Sentry I. The damage output is still kinda nasty, but can tank them long enough to kill the tech.2 sentry, then tech.1 and then it's easy ride with remaining ships. Warped out once after killing the first sentry, more to be on safe side than out of necessity...

Edited by: Al Thorr on 05/12/2005 14:41:23 Too easy in a cerb - make it harder please
But seriously its a nice mission, One in which you have to think and keep ones brain in gear. Would be nice to see a few more of them like that imho.

I think this was the second level 3 mission I did, then i proceeded to get 3 spy stash missions in a row. Anyways, I do almost all the lvl 3 missions solo in an Ishkur (lost my enyo to a webber on the first lvl III mission). It's not a pretty setup, but I have 3x150mm II's with iridium chargers AB, 2 cap relays, PDS, Rep II and one of those nifty 20% cap relays for the low slot. Anyways, it's enough that I never run out of cap, a problem I had been having when running the Enyo with 4 blaster II's AB, Rep, web etc. Problem is, it makes the missions really slow even with the 5 medium drones plinking away at everything. Retribution shouldn't have any problem solo-ing this.

Just do LVL4s if LVL3s are too easy, if they make them any harder new players will have to resort to mining to make isk.
Black market hub and Spy Stash could however use the red warining text that missions like Mordus Headhunters have atm.

Without doubt it's one of the toughest level 3's, just for that second section. The first is a peice of cake, but those sentries on the second stage are nasty.
I found the best tactic is to either :get in close and fast and just blast away at the guns first, then bail if you need to, or just sic your drones on the guns and rep like a mofo!
I've done this in a thorax solo, so it is possible, but one this mission isn't is easy.
Make it easier? No, not in my opinion.

A lot of people decline certain lvl4 missions if flying solo. Couldn't a lvl3 mission runner decline black market hub or spy stash if they find them too tough? It's nice to have the odd lvl3 mission which stretches a pilot.
I see your point about the red text though.

Lost a Ferox on a BMH (or was it spy stash, always mix up those two) once but only because I wasn't thinking and didn't take out the scrammer frigs first. So long as you hit the frigs first and at least one of the sentrys next you should be able to whittle them down without a warp out.
Since I got my Harpy and have it fitted with the good 'ol Gistii hardware (AB and SB) I've had no issues with level 3s at all. No need to make em easier in my humble opinion

whats wrong with you ppls!?!?!
I do this mission SUPER EASY in both my Enyo and Ferox!! I dont get what you need BS, HAC or anything like that for? All lvl 3s is easy, no matter which one, my Enyo and Ferox has withstand them all? No need to nerf anything?
And no I am no super gunnery person, can merely use 150mm Railgun II and heavy missiles in lvl 3 so not really anything big.. They are easy, believe me. If you want my setups just sa so. My bro is also doing his in a Retribution now WITH T1 GUNS!!!

Well they take a while (spy stash/BMH) but i wouldnt call em hard.
For ex. Black market hub (for me) foolproof way of winning Usually i jump in turn on AB, SB and take out... 1) frigs (theres usually 2 which can be taken out quick) 2) warp out (usually 10% shields at this point) 3) back in take out turret #1 4) warp out (again almost no shields left) 5) repeat 3+4 for the 2nd turret 6) finally finish of the 2 cruisers.
Maybe ill have 20% armor damage at the end which is no biggy to heal up back at the station.

they are harder then the rest so a warning text would be nice...
sacrilege, (overkill for it) had a fitting with 1 small tII repper, 3 hardners, did not have a problem there with my tank. No warping out.
retribution, well as any mission with it, dont get webbed while aggroed by a lot of things. No warpouts as well.
Sorry to say I have not tried it in any other ships. But it makes you have to be alert at least. Not as much afking the lvl3¦s. Glad for some hardish missions at lvl3.

ill add my thing to this
i have done both of those missions solo in a ferox without warping off, there easy if your ship is set up right - BMH, 5x250mm, 2 assult, med booster II, boost amp, 2x phoyon scattering, thermal hardener, 3 PDU's, Magstab 2. same set up on spy stash aprt from 1 hardener goes to a web and the other two are kinetic thermal.

yikes, I haven't done this mission yet, sounds fun. As I noticed some have said the Spy Stash was hard, and I learned that turning and running works ..cake walk!! So I will try this mission for the first time when Eve comes back up and also re-edite my post.... But if its that hard maybe a tad alterrating should come in order..

I can do it mostly without warping out in my Eagle. (i must admit, i run a gistii small shield tank, which is cap-stable even with guns running, try that with a med booster t2 ...)
This mission, together with Spy Stash, is the only mission that has the potential to get me into armor and warp out, sometimes...
The trick is as descriped earlier: focus on those sentries! They're just on my optimal with AM ammo (40km), so i can get rid of them pretty fast, then go for the mercenary commanders (they should now be 20-30km away), they hit hard too, go for the frigs last!
Also: i dont use hardeners, I have 2x medium shield extender II, for just over 4k shield total.

*shrug* It was the first lvl 3 mission I've ever flown. I successfully completed it in my Prophecy fitted with beams.
My usuall setup contains 4 med beams and 2 small pulsers, thus I was able to deal with the wingmen.
I had to warp out with some hull damage on stage two that one time. Came back, finished them off.
Afterwards I knew to include the following in my setups: A webber to slow the wingmen down. 4 medium pulsers instead of beams.
And knew to take out the Sentry II as first target.
(for those interrested, that was with my BC Skill at lvl 3... and 3 moths on my char)

I can do this no problems in my Ishkur. Once i get to the second stage, I go full burn to the nearest sentry and kill it, then to the second sentry and kill that. The ships can't hit you for diddley, so once the turrets die you can take them out...
Easy. TBH I have more hassle from the 2 Merc Wingman in the first stage... damn webbers!

This is easily doable in a BC.
1) Have decent skills. They dont have to be uber, but you need slightly better skills than any of the other missions due to the 4 sentries. 3 million should be easily sufficient.
2) Mount 2 launchers. Using defenders this cuts out the missile damage totally, and you can switch them for damaging missiles when needed.
3) Use long range guns so you dont have to burn valuable tanking cap on an AB to get into sentry range faster.
4) Mount a multi-damage type tank: sentry turrets do ALL damage types. Use adaptive nanos if armour tanking or new invuln fields if shield. This is where people most often go wrong as they tank just the two racial damage types from their race's rats.
5) Blow up: Sentry Turrets -> Small Ships -> Large Ships -> Missile Turrets. Most people I find have trouble with many missions because they kill in the wrong order.

All the lvl 3's are easy in BC's with skills. I use a ferox with 3 large shield extenders II's, a named shield recharger, and 4 pdu II's. With 13500 shield and a good recharge rate I just laugh at the sentries.

Well i manage to do BMH with a cyclone but i had to warp out on 2nd room one or twice due to fact that each time i do i warp, that i kill one sentry and warp again to recharge shield

Stop all this!
These missions are all so weak, so easy, just stop it.
If you're in an enyo, your complaint is this.
I'm in one frigate, outnumbered 50 to one. If you count the mass of the enemy ships, including cruisers, I am outnumbered 100 to one.
Still, I insist, I demand that I can use my frigate to take on odds of 100 to 1. Yes, that is right, one of me needs to kill 100 of them. They have 100 times my fire power, 100 times my mass, yet I insist that I can beat them in a frigate.
Ok, I'm harsh but this is the truth. It's a little bit better odds for a BC, but then it is doable.
Look at it this way.
Hey, devs, you know all your missions have a loss rate of 0.0 %. I mean when I go get more beer and come back, the loss rate is 0.0 %. If I have to go pee, the loss rate jumps to about 1%. If I'm eating dinner with my left hand, and typing with my right, the loss rate is like 2%.
Now, let me tell you about black market hub! The loss rate is like 10%. Yep, 10%. Not only that but I can't eat, drink or pee. This must stop now! Please nerf it! I mean, seriously, you want these missions to be a challenge? You mean I can't take on 30 50,000 ton cruisers in ONE frigate? Come on!
Ok, I said it. Don't flame me, please, but you know I'm telling the truth. |
