Is there any links to specs on the ships? Other than volume, etc, that gives a breakdown of how many crew it takes to operate? Just wondering if those little lights on my battleship are windows or just lights.

We're pod pilots, we dont need crews. One pod, one ship.

Forsaken Ruins established that our ships do have crews, usually less than a non-pod ship.
No we can't have crews gain experience. No to buying new crews. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

The chronicles talk about ships with crew, but the common misconception held is that these ships also had pods. They didn't. The pod pilots are a relative minority in eve. The ship remains the same with crew space and windows and whatever else it has but when a pod is installed, the ship no longer needs a crew.

Could be quite interesting if it was possible, though... Navy Field had pretty nice crew system, with specializations and all.

some of the stories specifically say stuff like "Ships with pod need less crew, a cruiser that needs 400 crew might be usable with a crew of less then 100" or something. I'm sure someone will link to and quote the stories if this thread stays on top long enough. ________

Read the Jovian Wet Grave btw it's great

The pod only replaces the bridge crew. You still need people (or fedos) to clean the ship. ------------------

Wonder if there is any chance CCP will put the numbers out of how much crew, would just be a nice thing to know when you pvp someone's battleship.

It is amazing how people still hold to their ideas on certain matters. Son, you need to purchuse the skill book "Undertanding Text".

5% better chance to understand per level?
I'm all for any in-game mention of the crew, even if it's just for RP sake.

I have heard rumors (friends of friends of friends kinda thing) that the higher tech levels of equipment may actually require crew members as ship consumables (kinda like ammo crystals maybe?). Would be kinda cool at least. ---------------------------------
The forums are so much smoother if you just don't read any posts by [UDIE]. More specifically Shin Ra's. |

I propose a homeless launcher. So I can hit F1 while yelling "Who's not leaving NOW?"
Wait, you said consumables. How about a system where if you put the homeless in with the livestock, the homeless become 'fat homeless' and the livestock numbers dwindle?

Yeah, but you wouldn't have known about it if you hadn't hung around pre-release. I have no idea why they pulled this info, but anyway:

Frigates are controlled by a pilot in the pod alone - they're basically big starfighters. Destroyers and up need a few more hands to make sure all the systems work right.

We could implement something sort of like a giga-pet system for ship crews.. You have to take them to stations to feed them regularly, but if you feed them too much they'll get fat, and if the station has a bar they may become alcoholics.
If they get out of line you can punish them at various different levels, from forcing them to swab the decks to making examples of particularly bad crew members by 'spacing em.. Too much punishment might make them rebel and mutiny, however. If you feel you've screwed up and need to start over you can jettison them all into space.
Im kidding.

If it were true we had crews... everytime I board a thorax it would be a mutiny. With my track record no one would ever fly with me. Therefore, there are no crews.

That is correct as far as it goes, but it doesn't go far enough. There are crews.

Yes I've read the backstory and the chronicles, including the most recent one out within the last day or so. They are great reads and EVE has a great backstory in general. It sure sounds like there should be a crew on my battlecruiser... but I don't think there is.
I mean if there was a crew on board the ship wouldn't they do .... something? ... anything?
Maybe if I had a highly trained crew I could reload ammo faster... or maybe they could repair a damaged drone while it was in the drone bay.... or slowly repair armor or hull damage while the ship is docked... I'm sure that an actual crew could have many uses... but this crew I may or may not have on my ship is completely and totally invisible. So I have a hard time believing they're there at all.
But the real reason I have a hard time believing that there are crews is because no matter what there function is... even if its just role play... I don't pay them. Not a single ISK. Yeah... there's no crew.

Whats the point in having all those little lights on in your ship if its just you in your pod?
I like to think there are little crew members running around, frantically obeying my orders, getting blown to bits when we get hit by a torp, etc..
Im okay... really.
