Right,
You need to...
1) have extensive knowledge of all modules & ships
2) be able to imagine how your opponent is thinking, and what he is using.
3) know the game mechanics (knowing how to use the scanner etc)
4) have balls :p
When you know/can do all that and are smart enough, you know when to engage or not.
The people that can do that, are the best pvpers in the game. |

IMO, individual PvP skill is usually secondary to a pilot's ability to follow orders and work as part of a team. Just my .02 ISK.

aye, but what about the times they aren't working with a team? you wouldn't argue that pvp skill is secondary to anything in a 1v1 or 1v2.

aye, but what about the times they aren't working with a team? you wouldn't argue that pvp skill is secondary to anything in a 1v1 or 1v2.
I'd never argue that PvP skill is secondary and, yes, I agree that sometimes these thing happen. In such a case, I'd advise running from Eyeshadow, Sivona, Generatorn or Emelie because they are uber and will *$#% you up.

I think its relativly easy to be good at pvp in eve. I mean, as TWD said, know the modules and predict what your opponent has fitted from how hes acting/what ship hes in then you have a high chance of success. Like if your flying along in a hac trying to gank people in hostile space, you see a domi npcing in a belt, well hes obviously got npc setup on go gank him. Or has he? He could just be sitting in the belt with 5 nos making you think hes npcing. So study him for 5 mins, if he stops in the same belt with no rats then hes obviously not npcing. Or Just **** about at 19 km from him, prey he hasnt got officer named nos's/scrambles :P.
As i said, easy stuff. If your guna kill him, you dont really need to control your ship much. Tackling is probly the only slightly hard thing in the game, and even thats relativly easy. Its nothing like playing starcraft or warcraft where its relativly fast paced and you actaully have to micromanage every unit to be the best. Not that you can really compare eve with those games. But they are all about strategy :P.
If you have a bad judgement you will die. If your TOO greedy you will die. Sometimes after killing however many ships you can get a little excited, to greedy and end up getting yourself killed :).

I have to agree with darko, flying a ceptor and tackling pre cold war patch used to take more skill but nwo that missles dont do much to frigs its made it much easier, which imo is kind of a shame. I fly ceptors most of the time for pvp and now with the missle patch it makes it so most people can fly a ceptor effectively instead of it being an actuall skill. O well i cans till beat them 1v1.
