A really good article I wanted to share that partly explains the momentum shift to Caldari/Amarr.
http://themittani.com/features/apathy-swings-pendulum
I especially liked the psychology concept that was covered; "The Diffusion of Responsibility"
Quote:This problem is compounded by the vermin I described in my (now slightly prophetic) previous piece. The plex farmers and plex leechers benefit greatly from a higher tier, however that benefit is diminished if they actually pay into the system to maintain it. Instead they rely on a few workhorse groups within the militia to fight over, take, and pump LP into systems so that they can stay fat and happy. The people who benefit the most are those who provide the least for others. This causes a natural fracture point as those who fight for control are driven towards anger and apathy. In psychology they call this The Diffusion of Responsibility: in a system where anyone can contribute towards success, but no one is accounted for it, very few will step up and bear the weight of the many.
Many individuals in Frogland have wondered why Gallente have slipped to T2 WZ Ctrl when they can so easily hold T3. I will certainly give credit to corps like Liandri and Templis who have plexed their minds out. After some private conversations and emails, I believe there is a certain apathy that many of the workhorse corps/individuals have in Gallente. They no longer wish to carry the load for warzone control. I can't blame them.
A few individuals have tried rallying the troops to hold T3 but it seems no one really cares. I hope we do not slip into T1 because it will be a major uphill climb and have adverse affects on recruitment drives and attracting new blood. Many of the corps who rely on new players will suffer major attrition. Long time vets can sustain themselves but the newer players will suffer the most.
It's time for new blood to take over.
In the end, it's nice to see new blood entering on all sides. It seems every militia now has over 4K players in it and that's hopefully alot more pew and player driven content. High Five. Yeah! C'est La Eve . |

When Caldari were at T1, I didn't see it as a huge deal, and I still don't see it as one if Gallente slip to T1. Personally, I'm quite happy with T1 for a while, it will let the millions of LP I have stored rise in value. T1 still makes ISK, it's not like the penalty we used to have with ISK price increases.
Even if we slip into T1, getting back to T2 is pretty easy when people care to push for it again. The Caldari have an easier time getting large alliance recruits since Caldari is such a popular mission running race (meaning their rebound from T1 isn't something that would happen as easily on the Gallente side), but even at T1 the ISK still flows, you can make enough to pvp.
Personally - I pushed for occupancy, we got all the systems, I was very happy to stop that effort as soon as the 24 hour mark passed. |

I was thinking it was a bit Nexx like too - I was wondering if the poverty of Tier2 means Gallente toons are getting crappier hair cuts to reflect their dive into poverty.
Now I know why all the overpriced crap I put on the market in Eha hasn't sold. Too busy spending all your isk on hair cuts.

of course. Amarr could have tier 4 already for over a week, its not like there are not enough systems, its because they are not maxed out. Its this a bad thing? I am not sure or at least i personally don't care much about the tier as long its not tier1. Plexing isn't very exciting, donating stuff just to be able to plex for more lp isn't very encouraging for the individual. (Sometimes i get the impression that very few in FW outside the core corps actually know when the next tier can be actually reached or not - but this is primarily a UI issue)
FW is probably more interesting when both factions are in a balanced state, which would be between tier 2 and 3. This has the least maintenance overhead and allows good isk making for pvp (for those who are here for the explosions at least). If it runs out of balance all the farming starts and ... well putting it back to balance is a lot of pve effort from the weaker side. a eve-style bounty system (done)-á dust boarding parties You fail you fail you fail you fail to jump because you are cloaked |

Or like all aspiring and established shrinks/mindbenders/"psychologist" the whole thing is a desperate reach for relevancy by a practitioner of a pseudo-science that does so want to be considered a 'real boy'.
Allow me to explain the shifts, by using old-school common sense without the same claim of relevancy by quoting that which is not quite a science: In FW, the few earnest can easily hold up the many leeches, LP generated is more than sufficient to counter the silly 'diminishing returns' that CCP were so proud to include. Gallente stopped because their balls fell off from being denied the exercise appropriate to keep those marvellous products of evolution in tip-top shape .. if one wants/needs to fight in a war in order to prove oneself, yet can only find wooden ducks in a tent the interest in said war wanes. It is a simple matter of "not what it said on the tin"
Flip that for the Shakorites. They didn't want conflict or the feeling of having to do anything to get 'their due'. Years of having the vast majority of systems in play hidden behind a bottleneck and thus "safe" without having to do a damn thing, benefiting from a much healthier market due to being better situated in relation to hub and enjoying a steady, high demand for their product due to trending FoTY/Winmatar made them into what is (in less polite society) called 'sponges'. Tiericide has proven devastating for their market value as Winmatar is being whittled away, the previously safe 'Corn fields of Iowa' (far from border, get it? ) are anything but and their healthy markets are lost to them in accordance with rules regarding docking rights.
-Or-
The Caldari/Amarr farmhand hunters became too much of a nuisance and started carrying too many points for the alt horde to make ISK hand over fist any more.
-Or-
Markets became too depressed and stockpiles of items grew too large, so farmers are merely rotating fields as is proper if ones aim is to maintain a high steady output.
Personally think has most to do with that last line. Pure greed, nothing more nothing less.

The turning of the tides is interesting. Down here in Amarr space, when we hit T3 with a comfortable margin it suddenly became almost impossible to get the militia to bash any hubs that became vulnerable. There are two system that's minnies now have defended into the 70's that we did have vulnerable.
On hitting T3 it seems many just went into mission carebearing mode or had plexing fatigue from the effort it took to flip 25+ systems during that time we had the upper hand in the WZ.
Minnies are now outplexing us daily and have flipped 5 systems without us a having a flip response. Will be interesting if we take Hof today, or it might be another 5 flips by the minnies without a response from us. Will be interesting to see what happens if/when we are pushed back into a T2 only position.
Yes, we're going to die, but you're coming with us!

I suspect the Cal/Gal warzone will settle and stop shifting soon and we will get back to some kind of equilibrium (at least the closest thing you can get to that in FW). Meaning both factions will have well established home systems, clearly defined borders for warzones etc...
At least thats what I keep telling myself. |

No, a pendulum system is terrible because it means that no side can really win, so there's literally no reason whatsoever for anyone but the farmers to want one side to get a higher tier level than the other. Mane 614

This is a game which is intended to never end. Therefore it has to be impossible for any side to win, otherwise the game would end. What in your opinion should happen when one side completely conquers all enemy FW systems and achieves Tier 5? Should faction warefare end for those two? No, one faction gets a medal that's all. Then people get bored and go somewhere else until after some time a new generation will spawn which will go for it. And the cycle of life will start over again. |

My sexy hairdo aside, a few additional thoughts;
Andreus Ixiris wrote:No, a pendulum system is terrible because it means that no side can really win, so there's literally no reason whatsoever for anyone but the farmers to want one side to get a higher tier level than the other.
Don't focus too much on higher tiers and "winning". Gallente "won" a few weeks ago and we felt the 'loss' with no WTs around for a few weeks. It got quite boring.
--Plexing Fatigue--
AKA sov grind fatigue. It is quite real. This contributes to the apathy on the Gal side. Grinding through the remaining few systems to get the medal was painful. The only thing more painful than the grind was the semi-public fleets and the amount of spazzes on comms. I'm glad those days are over because it definitely wore out alot of FCs and grunts.
Apathy isn't just limited to the Gallente though. The same goes for the Caldari as well. Like the Amarr, they have exerted alot of energy into grinding through 40+ systems in the past month. That amount of plexing takes a huge mental toll on anyone including battled hardened veterans. The wear and tear of sov grind has shown even for Caldari as there have been a couple of occasions when 3-5 systems have been vulnerable for 48 hour time period but they never bothered to bust the ihub. I can only imagine that their FCs and grunts are tired of doing yet another ihub bash that will eventually be taken back soonish.
As I recently completed my one year anniversary in FW, I realize that being part of a never ending war does require a certain apathetic attitude. You care but you don't care at the same time. One must be very Zen-like in this never ending war. Flow like water my friend. I believe Bruce Lee and his philosophy could survive in FW
And a shout out to fresh faces on the Caldari side such as 700-man alliance, Brosefs . They are one of the few organizations that will actually undock in something bigger than frigs/dessies fleet comps and give us a fight. I wish more corps and alliances would take a cue from these guys and have the courage to fight on gates or belts rather than hiding behind the security of a plex. That is certainly a group who is trying to learn how to pew rather than subject themselves to the daily grind of button spinning. High Five. Yeah! C'est La Eve . |

Right. So if I read between the lines, you want something that is rewarding and fulfilling? Instead of focusing on a tangible reward for accomplishing the ultimate end game (100% WZ Ctrl), try shifting your focus to the personal goals of yours and your corp. Not that of the militia. For me, my personal goals entering FW was
1) Be a better pew pewer 2) Learn to FC
As a director for my corp, my goals are
1) To help corpmates become better at fleet and individual pvp.
And you know what? I've accomplished all three goals to some degree and continue down that journey. And even if Gallente was down to a handful of systems, I would still be quite happy as long as I'm still accomplishing all three of those goals which I find very rewarding and fulfilling. And not to mention the constant week to week collaboration that I do with my fellow allies on all sorts of micro objectives.
I know alot of Cal Mil pilots left FW or unsubbed when CCP released the emergency Fast Foward Patch because it disrupted their 'end game' of accomplishing complete warzone control. To me, that says those pilots really didn't have sustainable goals that went beyond the end game. If they did, they would still be around trying to reach those goals.
I can't help but think how many corps would be better pvp corps and not "plexing corps" if they stopped spinning so many buttons. Don't get me wrong. I believe button spinning is important to holding systems ,maintaining a healthy warzone control, and getting fights. But it's not the end all and be all. There is alot of content outside of the sov-war grind. There are things far more gratifying than the tangible rewards that some of us are demanding out of the game designers.
Just a thought. High Five. Yeah! C'est La Eve . |

LOL@all the lies and excuses on this thread...
The reason that Gallente were able to achieve T3/T4 so easily was that the CCP Ninja Patch gifted them 70+ systems, which barely needed to be upgraded to maintain T3. Meanwhile, Caldari were left with a feeble 20 or so systems that needed to be heavily upgraded just to hold T2. Once Caldari hit T1, many of the (already massively outnumbered) PVP alliances simply left militia altogether.
Now that Ev0ke evened the odds, the same Gallente who gloated about blobbing their way to free LP and 'total dominance'(LOL!) are faced with the harsh reality that they aren't getting a free ride anymore and will most likely hit T1. I realise this must be very upsetting for them.

Post with your main. Oh wait.....
You honestly can say nothing that will upset me, because at the end of the day, this is just a game to me. While you sit in your mother's basement thinking up your next troll, fapping to your next delusion, or standing over your Damar shrine, I'll be making the 5 minute walk to the beach down the road. I hear vitamin D is good for dementia, I am not sure how the weather is their in the UK, but if you ever make it to Maui Ill buy you a round.
The simple fact is, if you read the first and last part of the decree to take all systems it was because farmers were out of control, everyone was in an uproar, and the sides were unbalanced. (First part) then it described how they were going to show CCP, by taking all systems. (Middle part) then it describes the end goal, for CCP to fix FW and make it not PVE orientated. (Last part)
You are only focusing on the middle part and using it to feed your pride and asinine way of thinking, Get. Over. Yourself. The goal was to help faction warfare by showing CCP the imbalances that you guys screamed about the whole time.
Now that you have taken systems back you want to gloat? You just proved the system that you were screaming about being unfair, is actually extremely fair and has balanced itself out, so all that complaining you were doing over the last couple months were for nothing. So his whole time you've been whining about a fair system AND now the system is balancing itself out.
Seriously take a few moments to actually pause up and think long and hard about your behavior and how it represents the squids and you yourself. You are the top of the evolutionary pile, freaking act like it. |

He is talking about me, apparently because I was on 3 killmails out of 20+ highsec kills with someone who has boosts and two logi, I must be BFF's with him. Despite dying to 2 or 3 AF's that logi would be able to tank easily.... or that was in a zero tank zero resist Nado instead of a Tempest or Maelstrom, you know, something that would have resist for logi. A thread staring with LoL/trolling is not a clear, concise, post. You are the troll, who's main is forum banned is proof of that. Every post you make is spattered with trash talk, so expect to receive it in return. Most threads are actually civil before you and your kind come in and muck up the place.
As I said before, and you ignored blantently, the intent of taking all systems was to force CCP to fix a system that at the time all militias were unhappy with. It says it at the beginning and the end of post, you have even recently quoted it just bolding the middle part so you can troll. |

"The reason that Gallente were able to achieve T3/T4 so easily was that the CCP Ninja Patch gifted them 70+ systems, which barely needed to be upgraded to maintain T3.

I think you're the only organization capable of bringing something out that's beyond frigs/dessies. That's sad given the large number of entities that exist in Cal Mil such as Templis, Liandri, and others. Being over there, perhaps you can shed some light as to why Cal Mil has such a huge fixation on the buttong spinning aspect of it and doesn't undock in more disciplined fleet comps which would wake the frogs from their slumber? Inb4 'because of blobing'
Takes you guys a little too long to "wake up". It took you guys generally took at least thirty minutes to an hour or more to bring a fight when vlil was being pushed. If you want to talk about apathy, think of the countless hours the gallente have spent keeping the caldari waiting while you guys wait for the minimum of 2(+):1 odds in your favor. Why blob up when we have to wait an hour or more for you guys to get a bigger blob when we can just log in and do a little small gang or solo work and get a fight within minutes of logging in? Win or lose, ask yourself, would you want to spend over an hour trying to get a fight or reduce your gang size/ship down to get one sooner?
Don't get me wrong, i love hopping into a gaurdian or basi and watching local fill with justified chaos tears about "you have logi and 3 boosters were not fighting QQ" but it gets old when the only fighting is on the forums or tears in local. The thing is most caldari are happy to throw down when the odds are against their favor, the issue with most gallente they want to "win" and traditionally stay docked until they have a massive numbers advantage and counter fleet comp to the caldari gang that has been waiting for at least an hour (the exception is chatgris fleets (most of the time at least, sometimes chatgris pulls an ammon dei...) and some SOTF FC's). This has been true in the nourv days in 2010, during the vlil push in 2012, and still holds true today. This is personally why I don't really roam that much anymore, i just do what the gallente do and sit around my home systems looking for small gang pew pew until an enemy gang rolls around, make them wait, get everyone, and go after them with a counter fleet comp or watch them run away.
But then again EvE is rock, papper, scissors, so if you play it to "win" you avoid engaging get more numbers/counter fleet comps, so both sides get apathetic towards even fighting when no one wants to fight without a numbers advantage or counter fleet comp, but hey at least button spinning forces fights (like in vlil). Sometimes you guys didn't have the magic 7:1 ratio and we got some good fights out of it rather than waiting the full hour+ for a fight, because you guys didn't have the luxury to wait for that full hour or more to get everyone because you were going to lose your home system. It lead to some really good fights, i enjoyed them, win or lose.
This could be one cause to the caldari emphasis on button spinning, is to a) get small gang pew pew since plexing offers instantaneous pew and b) if it's one of your home systems, force you to fight with little more a sense of urgency rather than boring the caldari to death by making them wait to get the perfect counter fleet comp and numbers advantage. This is my two cents anyway. Project Cerberus is recruiting for the US Timezone, click here |

I wish most of calmil would run larger fleets. Took a trip down memory lane the other week speaking to an old friend about how regular BC fleets used to go up in militia channel, forming up in enaluri, going down pipe to heyd etc... and they were surprisingly successful despite comprising of 50% general militia randomly plucked from the channel. Ya know? Back in't day like?
Federation have had bigger numbers in their corps/alliances and more unity between each other for a long time now so naturally you have more success and experience with the bigger fleets and ships than most of calmil. Also lots of internal wardecs over the past year or so has caused lots of distrust and rifts between corps/alliances If we advertised a BC fleet in general militia now most guys would probably ask one of the following questions:
- Whats a nano-drake?
OR
- How much LP does I getzz for thatz?!?!?!
So, many many reasons I suppose why FW/calmil is in this current state but I personally am finding it a bit stale flying round in frigates looking for solo/small gang stuff. Sometimes a man needs to play with a biiig torpedo. |

In the end, it's nice to see new blood entering on all sides. It seems every militia now has over 4K players in it and that's hopefully alot more pew and player driven content.
It would be awesome if FW could be responsible for the pew WITHIN FW themselves... If CCP only lets FW members enter FW plexes there would surely be more fun to be had.
And no, I don't care about the non-FW KM wh0res blurting out that plex kills account for most of their kills commenting here. Seriously pathetic to take 3-4 ships into a plex to take on a single FW noob in a frigate. "Blow it all on Quafe and strippers." -á --- Sorlac |

One other reason is "the meta" has more than creeped into FW compared to the "old days". You might have a 0.0 entity barge in on a fight in the old days looking to gank both militias but in general it was the gallente vs the caldari. Now when an alliance "unaffiliated" with FW drops in it's generally because one side called them in. Everyone batphones. A lot of people say they joined FW to escape 0.0 politics and such, the fact is now they're involved in it whether they like it or not, they can just choose to not have friends or to have friends. A couple comments;
Regarding the Vlill push or any home system push for that matter. If there is a hint that the opponent wants to take the system and not there for a fight, then people will eventually blob you. I think you and Amarrian Retribution wanted the GFs...most of the time. But there was a certain crazed LOLRPer who logged on after DT and was more interested in the plexing than the fights. Once our US TZ corp finally got some EU reinforcements, he never bothered coming again and ran from everything. We eventually plexed the system down.
So it gets to a point where blobbing occurs because holding the system is more important than the fight. I've been on both ends of this and have no problem with either side doing it.
As Commisar alluded to, Gallente might be able to field bigger numbers on occasion, but it requires more coordination and effort which generally turns off the veterans who don't have the patience to deal with long form up times.
Let's examine the US TZ landscape in greater detail for both sides and which corps/alliances can field a decent small gang.
Caldari:
- Happy Endings- capable of fielding 8-15 nowadays. Sometimes upwards of 20-30 like last night. But I think that's an anomaly for them.
- Brosefs- 10-15 man cruiser gang with 4 griffins to boot.
- Templis- 7-15 man gang or bigger. Haven't seen much of them recently though
- Liandri- 10-20. But usually frigs/dessies. They do cruisers once in a while if a couple of their FCs wasn't so fixated on huddling 10 frigs into a Novice plex.
Gallente:
- Sammurai Pizza Cats: 5-10 man gang on average.
- Justified Chaos: 5-8
- Villore Accords Alliance: 7-15
- Monkeys with Guns: 4-8
- Spiritus Draconis: 5-10
So judging by these numbers, US TZ FW between Caldari/Gallente is relatively healthy for small gang pew at the 10 man limit. It's just that people have to scale down their expectations of these "big fights of yesteryear" which, quite frankly, are anti-climatic as shown in Haze's BR link. It's just one side blobbing/ganking the other.

Just join rvb and/or arrange your fights, and quit whining. Or you can continue crying on the forums that the enemy doesn't play the way you want. Whatever makes you happy.

Tiffany Starr wrote:LOL@all the lies and excuses on this thread...
Amusing.

Good question the point of this thread was apathy. The way to avoid apathy is to give more goals.
Ending the war? I don't think it should end. But it should be made more fun so that people don't wish it would just end already.
I think there could be some other awards given besides the one for taking all systems.
What would the actual award be? Statues of different players who contributed most vp or kills whatever, in different systems. Could be 1 statue or many. Or maybe some of the war heros would become celebrities and appear on the billboards for the faction. Maybe a corp could become a hero corp and have individual members appear etc. Or maybe a new or upgraded item in the fw store. Maybe some of the npc stations in your occupied area would switch from an enemy aligned corp to one allied with you. Or maybe a medal, etc. etc.
What sort of things could warrant one of the awards? There could be an award if you faction has the majority of systems over the course of a year. Or if your corp/alliance/individual has the most kills etc.
The revised tier system is pretty stagnant. What do you get for orbitting buttons for hours on end? The opportunity to make a little more isk for orbitting buttons even more hours on end! And the opportunity to see alts make the big money after you worked for scratch. The old cashouts was better in many different ways. It paid the people who got the militia there not the latecomers and after you got there you could just pvp and try to kill the enemy as they tried to retake system. The old cashouts paid too much (and should have been nerfed instead of completely changed) and there was too much farming due to other problems, but it did offer an intermediate goal for the militias that they could celebrate. It also lead to some amount of strategy.
But I know allot of posters here told hans they prefered the current system and will never admit it the old cashouts was better. They will complain about farmers and the high payouts that had nothing to do with the actual cashout system.
