I finally got my Apocalypse battleship after training to fly one since day one which is not a cheap ship at all I decided to flex my muscles a bit and try out a little PvP in 0.4 so I park my ship and saw an approaching Thorax so I lock and load and begin to fire and I notice that my shield is going down quickly and 8 praetors where hitting me, I have a blue aura around my ship (warp scramble?) and I cannot fly away to saftey. the guy in the thorax somehow survives my guns and was able to pod me. What is the point of saving up for a battleship if someone with a cheap cruiser could take you down? I have little isk and I do not want to hit up my friend for more isk and mining is something I do not want to do since it is mind numbing to do. is the Apocalypse just a bad battleship or is the thorax in general just overpowered??

Don't take battleships out for pvp the first day you got them. For the love of god, I hope you at least had on some large turrets, or else this isn't a funny thread, this is a sad thread.
What happened to you was that you were totally unprepared for that type of enemy. He got in close, you couldn't hit him with the type of guns you were using, and he had on proper enough guns to take you out. But honestly, a frigate could've probably chewed through your armor.
Train up some more. Experiment with a maller with heavy beams. Make a ship with a really great tank. You did not know what you were doing. I'm sorry, but if you didn't know what the aura was, you didn't. Don't sink the 125m into an apoc if you think that it is a win button, because it certainly is not. ---

Get a BS class webber as well - 35 km, help keep your range on the rax.
He came into his optimal and totally wrecked you because your guns couldnt hit.

In this case he would have prolly done better to have medium guns rather than BS ones... specially lasers.

Yeah. Thats why I hoped that he was using large lasers. If he was using medium, it'd be just plain sad. ---

Did you forget to take out your heavy drones and fire cruise missles? Did you forget to turn on one or both of your reppers? Praetors were firing into a minimum 60% resistance so I can't see how you didn't tank that. Unless you were shield tanking

This is obviously a joke or someone who should not have a battleship.
If its a joke, then you sir are a ebil man, ruining my own lame threads.
If not then go read the PvP guide and then read it again.

Edited by: madaluap on 18/07/2005 21:56:03 Edited by: madaluap on 18/07/2005 21:55:00 well you just suck at flying an apoc than...
first thing you need to learn: Its not in what you use(long/shortrange or other special technices). its not in what you fly, its all about sp and skills. with skills i mean that you know how to fly your ship, what its range is, how well it tracks, how i handles bs/cruizer/frig, also that you arent a complete noob and think blue aura is warpscrambling helps too.
but well you learned this the best way you could learn it..the hard way. lessons you never forget. master your ship 100% and be king or go down like noob.

This is definitely a joke, that makes fun of people who think everything that works well or even remotely well, or that requires brain cells, should be nerfed to hell. ---------------

Erm thorax could take a bs quiet easliy if the pilot knows what he is doing and the apoc dosn't he just cleary got unlucky, fit a 1600 plate and a 800 plate(and a pdu,cap relay,d mod/stabbie) and orbit at 500m the guns rarly hit and you slowy(very VERY) wear down his armour...

While the thorax is a strong cruiser, what your story REALLY indicates is that you are clueless.
Clearly you had a crap setup, no idea of what is going on, no decent tank (a decent apoc tank can easily soak up a thoraxs damage), and low Sps.
This has been said a million million times: NEVER fly a BS until you have the auxillery skillpoints to fly it well.
Im talking Engineering V, Weapon Upgrades IV (At least), Electronics V, Mechanic V, Repair Systems IV, Hull Upgrades IV, Large Energy Turret IV, Energy Operations IV, and most of the other engineering and Gunnery skills to IV as well.
Jesus H Christ. This isnt "Elves and Fairies online" where a level 50 automatically beats a lev 49, and a +12 sword of pwnge beats a +11 staff of raipe. You need to plan your loadout and your strategy a little more than locking on to the enemy, turning on a mismash of guns and hoping they die before you do!

Yes, the Thorax is overpowered and needs a drone bay nerf (after all, a Thorax pilot with skills at lvl 3 can put out 300 DPS).
HOWEVER, you obviously made some pretty glaring mistakes. The first was letting the Thorax get close enough to web and scramble you in the first place. The second is obviously some fitting or tanking issues, an Apoc when properly fitted can tank just about anything in the game, including a Thorax. Lastly, it sounds like you didn't have any drones. A compliment of Heavy Drones would have probably made a big difference in that fight.
So yes. While you WERE beaten by an overpowered ship, it wasn't entirely through no fault of your own.

two questions for the OP:
1) What are your skills?
2) What was your ship fitting?
Without this info, we can only assume you did not have adequate skills and/or had a bad setup

Ok you dont even know if he was warp scrambling or webbing you... Just how many skillpoints do you have? Just because you have a Battleship doesnt mean you win. You need lots and lots of skillpoints to be good in a BS so for now get in a frig or cruiser untill you acctually have enough SP for a BS

So a little investigation...
Press: Member of Federal navay Academy for 2 months...
Trying to do PVP in an Apoc. In .4! At a gate... Bahahahaha
I'm approaching 1 year in the game now, and have given up playing BS's, but instead focusing on HAC skills and working on perfect gunnery skills. Once I have those in place, THEN I will look at getting a BS again. I also don't do level 4 missions--I do level 3 and except for some of the new ones, have no issues, and have made 1B isk in a single day doing it. Yes, that's right, a B for Billion (it was a very good day though). I push the newer corpies to stick to med weapons, as trying to get honestly good in a BS takes a long time, but to get effecitve in a cruiser/BC class is much easier.

Damn thats stupid. I did not even think of a BS until 6 months, and even then, only as an NPC hunting platform. I've got nearly 19mil SPs now and I STILL think my BS flying abilities are barely enough for pvp.
And from the original post it seems he did not even realize the Thorax had the help of two sentry guns (assuming it happened near a gate....).

I'm sure this is a joke but it proves that skill beats "big"
Plus he didnt have to touch you. The sentries woulda done it all for him. You would harldy have noticed praetor drones, they are em and you should have decent EM resists in armour.
Thx for the giggle though

To actually get into orbit range?
Rax without a plate ~ 3000 hit points. Rax with a plate ~ 6500+ hit points, 4500 of which are pure armor.
ffs, some people will argue anything, no matter how obvious before thinking. ---------------
