You can beat all lvl 3 missions with ease except for 1. How? It's all about the fittings. High slots, med 250 railguns, the rest 'limos' or advanced light missiles. Med slots, med shield booster, shield boost amp, cap recharger, and whatever you want (I prefer cap booster and a bunch of booster charges in the cargo bay.). Low slots, All power diagnostics.
This setup is only for agent missions. |

Edited by: Khengis on 16/11/2005 19:24:23 I tried to do a L3 Mission in my Cyclone this morning and almost got owned. A random Kill mission with 4 60k rats, 180k rat, and a mixture of 17k and 20k rats. Mobius(sp)? Went back in with my Wolf and just had to hack away at them from range with 280 II's and speed.
Not real impressed with the Cyclone atm. I'm just under 5mil points and heavy into Combat and those rats were on me instantly. I managed to pop one before I decided it was time to get my 24mil trash can out of the area and bring a real ship in. Not really sure why it went so badly with the Cyclone. Shields went quick even with a Hardner running and two sheild extenders and a booster. My Wolf just tanked them. I might have been taken a bit into armor but the ship is configed to armor tank.

Okay, thanks.
I don't have Shield Upgr 4 yet, so I'll make do with a large T1 extender until I'm trained up. I already put an active EM hardener hardener on there and will try to fit a kinetic, but I don't think I have the energy skills yet to eke out enough cap.
If the accel gates didn't drop me right in the middle of everything, I'd try with the Caracal again, since my missile skills are decent. But even with AB, by the time I run from the warp point to open enough range, my shields are gone and I'm into armor.
Next mission offered is Angel Extravaganza. Hope I don't lose a ship.

Battlecruisers are prima donna ships in that they do require very good skills to perform to their max. Unlike cruisers, where their minimum and maximum usefulness are quite clear, BCs can be as useless as a cruiser or as powerful as a pocket battleship.
It all depends on the pilot's skills. With good skills, BCs are a joy to fly, and you'll be surprised at the situations that they can overcome and win. However, with weak pilot skills, a BC can be just as weak as a cruiser.
If you are considering piloting a BC, I strongly suggest you hold off on the investment and get the relevent skills up high. I know of too many young players who jump into a BC the moment they qualify, then get themselves in situations where the pilot cannot live up to the potential of the ship. Pity.

I am doing level 3 Angel Missions in my Thorax, most of the time teamed up with a maller, but also alone. Of the big 3 (extravaganza, black market, duo) the only one my agent gave me was the extravaganza. I did it solo the first time, didn't do the bonus stage though. I didn't have a problem with it, never had to warp out. The only hard fight was a cruiser trio at the final stage, all 3 around 80 - 110k bounty.
My setup is:
5 150mm Rails I 1 10Mn AB I 1 X5 Webber 1 Cap Recharger I 1 Medium Repairer I 3 Hardener (Therm, Kinetic, Explosive for Angels) 1 1600mm Steel Plating I
8 Ogre I
Tactic is simple, i come in and kill everything that aggros me, after that i go to locking range (~55km) and fire a shot with a gun at a rat. It will miss of course but they will aggro you and close in. Most groups i just can kill within the 4100 points of armor i have so i just repair after the fight and move on to the next group. Running the repairer in fight is also possible in bursts to prolong your tanking ability. Most work is done by the drones, i use the guns and the webber if i get swarmed by more then 2 frigs at close range, it helps to get rid of them faster.

I think it is random whether there is a scrambler or not and I believe the name of ship was the Impaler.

Scramblers haven't been implemented in the NPC's yet. They will be in the next release.

Oh yes they have.
I've lost 2 ships to 'non-existant' scramblers in lvl 3 missions...

Heh, ever since Exodus / deadspace was introduced, level IIIs have seemed to surprise mission runners making the step up from level IIs quite a bit. It used to be that a decently-skilled pilot in a Thorax could easily solo any level III mission (perhaps I should use "any" sparingly - Mordus was always a tough mission in a cruiser), but with deadspace now and the death of the MWD, things have changed alot.
But yeah, Duo of Death... I have a corp buddy that recently started doing level IIIs in his Ferox, and the same mission gave him a real run for his money on his first attempt. Once he got skilled up for hardeners and the likes though, he didn't have much of a problem.

"duo of death" was my first level 3 mssion which quickly turned into "solo of death" with the death being my own.I told my agent "this mission sucks I'm outta here" took the standing hit, went back for what was left of my caracal and made a Ferox. All the level3's are doable solo in a ferox tanked, and the way i did DoD is to tank the crushers and take out the batteries first with multiple warps (i was under 1 million SP at the time)the "black market hub" was the one that got my ferox because of my own complacency, because i had done it before without being scrambled by the wingmen i now know, doesnt mean to say they wont.i was,and payed dearly. Yes, it is a good idea to train up your skills before you try to take on lvl3 missions. The ferox is probably the best bc for them as its tank is very very nice.
It definitely takes some skills to fly however. Shield and missile skills are the most important followed by energy skills.
But as previous posters have stated, the ferox can easily solo every lvl3 mission once you learn the missions, outfit your ship properly, and have the appropriate skills.

Well I can handle small lv3 missions in my armour tanked Brutix (although I need to retreat at least 3 times)
Anything big like the extrravaganza's I call my mate in his megathron to help.

managed to lose enough zealots in lvl4s (bout 1 every 5th mission or so) that i can't afford them anymore now i'm running lvl3s in retribution.
works nice but then i have to say i got assault ships and heavy assault ships both at lvl5
even lvl4s in zealot are kind of ok as long as you don't forget to pay attention all the time. some of the missions get you very close to the edge....

I have a Cyclone BC, and it's great :)
Find all level 3's reasonably straightforward bar Silence the Informant (damn Mercenary Commanders!!), and Black Market Hub (damn Mercenary Commanders!! Again!)
It's worth getting T2 guns and T2 PDSs on BCs, ASAP. Makes a huge difference to it's effectiveness and your survivability.

Full ACK, that's how I did it, too, and that's how I made it thu "Duo of Death", where i had to warp out THREE!! times before the first turrent went down. The more enemy you manage to kill, the easier it gets, and once those 2 turrets where gone, the cruisers were no more prob. Some may experience a (for them) better way to do it, but there are as many setups as pilots, so there is probably no "the best way to do it". But one thing seems always true: If you cannot stand, warp out and try again after cap/armor/shield reloaded

I've just done the Angel Extravaganza and duo of death missions in my cyclone on my own. They seemed fairly straigh forward with no damage to armour or warping in and out.
5x gallium 720's 3x limos heavy launchers Ab 10 T2 med shield booster 2x sheild hardners 2x PDU 1x RCU 1x T2 gyro 4x med scout drones

i use a passive tank on my ferox and with it have 9233 sheild hps and i dont use a sheild booster but then again with that many hps why do u need one, i dont have the new missile skills trained yet so i cant use t2 launchers just doing crap damage with arb heavys i use 2 small lasers and drones for frigs. even on black market hub i never dropped below 65% sheilds. so anyway ferox for teh win....

Doing lv3 with ferox is like doing lv4 with raven.
You can solo it, but need good skill and very careful planing.
Now that I do them in raven its a joke, just looking for even better gank setup than 5 BCUs to increase the cash flow.

I did level 3 missions quite handily with a 1600mm plated thorax.
5x small neutrons with antimatter
1x AB, 1x Cap Recharger 1x Medium Cap Battery (yes it is better than a cap recharger if you have Engineering to level 5, but otherwise it won't fit)
1x 1600mm plate, 1x Medium "Accomodation" Rep, 2x mission specific hardeners, 1x cap power relay
8x Ogres
A little different from the other guy's setup, but here's why: the 5x blasters are mostly there to provide an added punch to kill larger ships very quickly, not having a webber makes it harder to kill smaller ships, but once you get done with the cruiser rats and the slower frigs, there is very little left and you can tank easily.
The only two level 3 missions that gave me trouble are the Spy Stash and Black market hub, because of the high amount of damage that the turrets on the last levels do on both.
Nowadays I just use an Armageddon and level 3's are a joke.

My Experience was the same as Khengis, The Cyclone seems to be the only BC where people get pwtfned on level 3's... there have been many threads on it, I think after the next patch they are giving the Cyclone its much needed 5th Mid Slot and upping the shield boosting to 7.5% per level.
Much safer to Tankk it in a Wolf but takes far too long! 2.5-3hrs for Angel Ex!!! mainly because I had to keep getting Ammo top-ups! None of the cruisers are a problem, just the damned 30k Webbing Frigs that are more resiliant than the 75; -> 150k Cruisers!
I think the HAC should be the fastest way of getting through all level 3s as the BS big guns will struggle with the frigs...

I find the missile-Ferox to be more than capable of Lv3 missions, the only one IŠve had to warp out from is BMH and this is at 1.5m sp so it still has a lot of untapped potential.

Can you post your loadout and related skill levels? My shield strength is about half that. I got through Angel Extrav, but it took forever and was work even in the Ferox.

I find this to be the funniest setup ever, bit wierd but oh well . Yeah, yeah, I know bs in lvl 3 is overkill, but it gets them done fast so here it goes
High: 6x 150mm T2 rails w/ Anti
Meds: 1x 100 AB T2 1x X5 Webber (Or anything you like works) 1x Tracking Computer T2 (Gives me a lil more range ) 2x Cap Rechargers of choice (I use 2 Eutectics)
Lows: 1x Large "Accom" Reper (or T2 if you wish) 3x Hardners of choice (I use 2 Kin, 1 Therm always ) 1x Magnetic Field Stab T2 (Or best named i guess) 2x Cap Relays
Drone bay: Packed to the gills with youre favorite drone type (Shreks or Preators)
With Energy management 4, and Energy systems operation 4, this beast runs for ever. Guns, web, Tracking comp, Rep, Hardners. When finished with all the rats, turn tank off and go pickup the loot with the ab
Hey it works wonders and kills everything since the small guns can hit all those pesky things, Drones, frigs, cruisers, you name it it's dead. Wonder if it will work as an anti-frig/inty pvp setup
PS: They call me insane cause I call the domi "A huge ugly frigate"

Fraid you were lucky. About half the lvl3's will squash your caracal. You really need to get a battlecruiser or an assult frigate.
This is not true, I do all level 3's in a caracal. Hell I've done some level 4 kill missions in a caracal. While not easy at times its definitely doable.
