TurAmarth ElRandir wrote:(1) Negative Sec, or, The Current and Future State of Wormhole Space: How you see that area of EvE now and what your take on what the future of holes should be. There are two factors at play here.
First thing, there are far too few WH sites which has turned this endeavor into a process that has to be putting even the most die-hard WH dweller to sleep. There needs to be more excitement in WH space: more random sites, more random occurrences within the sites, and more random occurrences within w-space in general. I left w-space partially because -- very ironically -- it was becoming too predictable.
This is not the sort of thing I should be thinking about completely unexplored space.
Second, living in w-space these days is just horrific. Partially this is the POS issue, but honestly, that's only part of the issue. Security, pods, logistics, and having a market where you live are all factors. The POS revamp is only going to solve some of these issues. I've been watching the F&I threads on this pretty closely and I don't think anyone's come up with the magic bullet yet. My own thinking is leaning toward encouraging CCP to let w-space dwellers place outpost eggs in w-space as an interim step.
TurAmarth ElRandir wrote:(2) EvE Expansions: Iterations, Jezuz Features and what YOU think should be aimed for and done. I'm running for CSM, not for junior game designer. Still, I've written three blog posts on this one:
I think EVE should have a Perpetuum Online-style tug-of-war sovereignty system. I think players should be allowed to join pirate factions as full members. I think it's time to open up Jove space.
TurAmarth ElRandir wrote:(3) WIS, Walking In Stations, or as I prefer to call it, 'Space DUST'. I think CCP Unifex has already reached the decision that walking around is going to be the purview of DUST 514, not EVE. I think EVE characters will get the ability to walk in stations and ships when DUST characters do, and at that point it will be in a purely social setting. I look forward to it in an intellectual sort of way, but I suspect that issue is going to be one for CSM12, not CSM8. I don't object to it, but I'd prefer to see a working Mercenary Marketplace before this. It's such a joke how badly the MM was implemented.

CCP is bringing to their development a whole new vocabulary. Words like lurkers, enablers, small gang leaders, etc are replacing words like carebear, pirate, nullseccer etc...
I would like you to expand a bit on your understanding of these words. In a old post in your blog you gave some insight of your understanding, but as this new vocabulary will be so important in the conversation with the Devs, specially Seagull and Unifex I think it deserves for further delving into.
Also I have the feeling that not only the CSM but some old school devs might have problem to start thinking in this new way.
Thank you in advance for your time if you decide to answer to my query. |

First of all, best of luck on your campaign!
I'd like to grill you a bit about this:
Ripard Teg wrote:EVE players -- all EVE players! -- should be encouraged to play in groups but not forced to do so, or punished if they do not wish to do so. (emphasis mine)
In the Crossing Zebras interview, you mention that solo suicide gankers should have to work "a lot harder" than those who work in groups, owing to EVE being a social game. You state that "every other activity in the game" is a social activity.
I understand and agree that encouraging group activities in EVE is a good thing for the game and its players. However, I'm not sure what you mean by solo players not being punished. Solo players will feel that they are being "punished" if certain activities or reward levels are beyond their grasp (either absolutely impossible or prohibitively effort/ISK-intensive) because they choose to go it alone. The same principle can of course be applied to solo miners, industrialists, mission runners, and so forth.
How do you propose to encourage more social gameplay without punishing solo players? What would constitute punishment as opposed to merely having to work harder? "Suddenly, trash pickers! HUNDREDS of winos going through your recyclables." -Piugattuk

As a long time fan & comments contributor It would be a pleasure to send my vote your way!
As for me I would like to know where you stand on the PvE content of EVE - especially how you would like to see the missions system be used or how it could be improved to allow a wider variety of PvE style gameplay (ie. small gang PvE / missions thats not dependant on incursions, improved / different missions in low sec, PvE to better reflect PvP combat in terms of tactics & fits, exploration missions etc)
Best of luck with your election Jester! |

Jester, I would like to take this opportunity to address an item which is "not fun", and one which would be a nice add-on to EVE.
Not fun: That awful login process. Why do I need to re-enter my credentials when I want to switch to an alt on the same account. I want to return to my character screen when I log off, not to the login page.
Nice addon: A remote fitting skill + window. When I fly to a station where I have a hull I can do nothing but transit. It would be sweet if I can remotely fit my ship while in space. Perhaps a skill should be required, where there the max distance of remote fitting,and/or ship level, is increased by skill level. For instance lvl1 is 5 jumps and frigate, lvl2 is 10 jumps and upto cruiser, lvl 3 is 15 jumps upto BC, etc.
These items might fit in your campain :-)
Regards,

I'm a new player, but from my first day in EVE i started following your blog. I may not always agree with your thoughts or logic, but find your overall top-down view of EVE relatively unbiased and balanced. The most important for a CSM member is to look at the forest, not the individual leaf - and i hope you can do that.

I fully support Ripard Teg for CSM 8. Many forget that there are places outside of sov null other than Jita, and people do live and frolic in them. Keeping each aspect of the game balanced and healthy is critical to the overall health of EVE, and there are few who can address this balance better than Ripard Teg. http://themittani.com -á- your one stop site for all News Eve Related |

Yuri Wayfare wrote:How do you propose to encourage more social gameplay without punishing solo players? What would constitute punishment as opposed to merely having to work harder? As I said, ganking should require an equal order of magnitude risk. If you're going to gank a T1 hauler (say), then this should require either a small group of destroyers, or one to two cruisers, not a single destroyer. So, if you're going to be social about it, it's cheaper and easier. If you're going to be solo, it's more expensive and harder.
With a good pilot aboard, a Ruppy does 2400+ alpha on an 8-second cycle. A Thorax does 1400 on a 3-second cycle. For tougher targets, you break out a Tornado. A Rote ganker has very good success tanking a Tornado in Uedama long enough to get two cycles of about 11000 alpha and I don't begrudge him that in the slightest. AND he made billions in profit almost every time he went out. And he will again once he has a better chance of getting his loot out.
I want both for gankers to have to put relatively equal ISK at risk and I want them to have a better chance at getting their loot away from a successful gank. The latter keeps getting forgotten.

In general, I think missions should be more like incursions. Fewer, tougher rats, using nastier PvP-style tactics. Higher bounties. And rewards for group participation. To my mind, "Stop the Thief" (the one where you warp in directly on top of a single battleship that spawns a fleet to his location) is the closest to an ideal L4 mission. There aren't that many ships and you can do it solo... but is much easier, faster, and more rewarding if you bring a friend or two.
And as I keep saying on my blog, I think the loot table needs another looking at. It's been nerfed down too hard. Honestly, with today's ship and module prices, I don't see how anybody could make a living on missions as they are.

As a newer player, I'm still staring up EVE's famous learning curve, coming to grips with red tape and paranoia in corp recruitment (for example, EVE University rules run about 10 pages in MS Word) and learning to deal with what looks to be a rather tilted playing field. That's in addition to finding my place in the sandbox to begin with. Ganking in high-sec seems to get a lot of attention, but it's far from being my primary concern.
I understand that you're not running for junior game developer position. Still, given your game experience and your excellent series of blog posts on the state of the game - from "Conflict of self-interest" to "Fractal," - I would be curious to know what changes to newbie game you'd support.
Thanks, and best of luck with your CSM run; you have my vote just for being willing to ask tough questions.

Let's not get too hung up on ganking, that was just a convenient example. The same goes for running missions, mining, industry, what have you. I want to get down to the principle. What is punishment for solo play? How do you avoid it? Is it reasonable to have activities which are off-limits to solo players altogether? You seem to suggest "no" but I'm not sure if that's what you really mean. "Suddenly, trash pickers! HUNDREDS of winos going through your recyclables." -Piugattuk

You got my vote, so long as your will be an acitivist and not an armchair quarterback
1st remark) Eve Online is marketed as a persistent-world MMORPG, however I don't feel much persistence in New Eden as a capsuleer vs it's common natives, and frankly this is costing me the game's rpg feel towards the place (not the mmo feel however).
Sure as capsuleers we have eachother to play around with. But what about the rest of the galaxy, I'm talking about our ship crews, player housing, character development (skill training and a very limited use of the reputation system is very basic), no/hardly any advanced advertisement of live events, only 5 epic arc's for questing, what faction building projects in FW, ship piloting simulation maybe Wing Commander style (test your fit out first, couple this by giving the launcher SiSi access).
However CCP is handling the enviroment rpg feel good, nice nebula, PI, autopilot showing you the way in space, landmarks, V3 textures, colliding asteroids and war barges for mercs soonGäó
2nd remark) When you will be elected and you will have stakeholder status as CSM member please also communicate to use openly how CCP games as a company is doing by showing us all it's financial statements and any notes it has along with it. http://eve-radio.com/ |
