The internet was a byproduct of information networks such as ARPA and the milnet during the cold war.
It's not the race of the player behind the monitor, its the maturity. EvE is a game where you cannot instantly powergame your way up to the most powerful ship in the game, it's game where it takes time and dedication.
This type of game has a very steep learning curve and tends to gravitate towards the more mature popuation.
As for myself, I'm the exact type of person that is a bane to many gamers; I'm the 16 year old asian kid with time on his hands.
However, this doesn't automatically make me into a griefing monster who's job is to chase Americans and Europeans out of this game; nor does it make me a evil competive bastard whos only goal is to get to the top. I consider myself to have fairly decent English skills and I don't sling around abbreviations every other word.
Judge not by the color of skin, but by the soul. Haven't we already learned this already?

I, sir, am a typical American gamer. I'm married, have a career, children, and am squarely in the 21-35 age bracket. I have never "thiefed" someone's ore in the entire two years of playing Eve and neither have any of the other Americans I play with. Your overt implication that Americans are thieves is not only offensive (in this era of Political Correctness, I want to be offended too), but unbelievably uninformed. My corp is part of the Fountain Alliance, which is mostly US gamers. We are currently in a bitter shooting war with Band of Brothers, which is mostly European, at least those on when I'm on are.
The underhanded and dishonorable way they are persecuting this war, however effectlively, flies in the face of your logic.
Ore thieving is logically okay. Massive payoff for nearly zero effort. Taking down an entire POS by infiltrating our corp and taking advantage of POORLY designed access roles is no different. Since you struck a nerve, just let me finish up by saying that the car you drive, the telly you watch, the radio you listen to and the power juicing through your home were all made possible by those dirty, thieving Americans.

The playerbase of this MMO is different.
The percentage of American players is abnormanl for most MMO's.

signed. this whole asian/us/euro bashing is ridicolous. there are black sheep everywhere, but in the end the large majority just wants to play a game.

I am an american. I found out about this game a year or so before release on my clan forum by one of the members. We all dogdedly followed the game, as it seemed like a wet dream come true, as we wanted a game with almost no restrictions, where one could rise to brilliant infamy.
Of almost all the gamers I know in real life, most of them found out about eve on their own. I dont know how, but they did. Unfortunatly, many of these said gamers left eve because, as they said, "it's sorta boring". Noobs.
Right now, my corp is made of almost exclusivly americans for some reason. I know of one for sure brit.
Just my experiance and distribution with eve.

I don't think it's a coincidence that an incredibly easy game like WoW attracts far more Americans than one with a steep learning curve like Eve.

Lol? OK, I'll just ignore the above post.:)
I think that EVE indeed attracts a different kind of gamers than other online games, like named WoW for example. It does so because here, patience, tactics, and to some extent micro managment is the key to success. It might not be as action packed, but different things appeal to different people. I can't say wether it is a typical european or american type of game. From my personal experience americans are mroe about action than europeans, but man, we're talking heavy generalisation here. Mainly I'm just happy EVE seems to attract a group of people that fits my gaming experience much better than most other games, regardless of age or nationality. :)
And me? I'm swedish. :P

I've read several posts saying that EVE Online does not receive much exposure here in North America, and I absolutely agree.
However, is CCP to blame?
Of course not. Big companies such as Sony and Blizzard Entertainment can afford to advertise/ship their product in North America and abroad.
Being a asian and North American player, I was also surprised to hear asians acting like that in L2 as well, because I've never seen it happen when I played L2. But it's entirely possible.
Quote: Are US & UK gamers afraid of what could happen to EVE if/when it's opened up to the Asian market?
I don't see why we would be afraid. EVE Online isn't a power lvling game where if you play 24/7 you can become the strongest player. I think it'll get some getting use to, since EVE relies more on strategy rather than time played to be successful.

No it's not. Native Americans exist and are offered full integration in our society. The ones that thought they were going to "cleanse the land" of all white people were gravely mistaken.
As far as slavery, you can thank the Dutch, and tribal leaders in Africa who sold their "undesirables" to slave traders. Slavery still exists in Africa at the hands of Africans, while those in America are free and 1000x better off than their African relatives.
Meanwhile not 60 years ago, millions of European Jews, Gypsies and others were murdered in the middle of the European heartland by a bunch of goose-stepping Odinist a$$clowns without anybody lifting a finger to help. The Brits were more concerned with losing their "Strategic Depth," the French were busy surrendering, and all the other countries got steamrolled.
Not 10 years ago in Bosnia a bunch of Belgian "peacekeepers" handed over thousands of Bosnian civilians to the Serbs for mass execution.
Let's not forget the genocide in Rwanda, a product of divisions created by European Colonialism, and Mr Kofi Annan sitting there jacking off while Tutsis were being rounded up and butchered. Our own president at the time was trying his best to make sure the genocide wasn't called a genocide, because then he would be required by law to send forces. It's sad to note that the French were the only ones who actually had the balls to step up to the plate.
This is why we don't trust the UN and will never depend on a bunch of pansy-ass cheese eaters to protect us. Freedom is guaranteed by superior firepower, not concensus.
Democracy is 2 wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for dinner. Freedom is the sheep standing there with a gun contesting the vote.

how is repeating informationg about something an insult? if it happened, then... what's the problem with talking about it? i'm not too sure about his statements being spot-on factual. that's not my debate. but, if they are truth or fact, then why is stating it insulting?

As a US Gamer I feel that EVE didnt get the ad time It should have in the US but did good without,Types of games like SWG(which i play) WOW,EQ2 did get lots of ad time.I havent played WOW or EQ2 but in SWG I dont think i ever met a person that was outside of the US. In EVE however its not like that,A person could be from US,UK, or anywhere and the fact that CCP did that we should give them a nod.

Sleazy Cabby you make me laugh, if Britain hadn't managed to hang on while your lot decided whether it was worth getting involved we'd all be speaking German now
I'd like to have seen D-Day launched from 3.000 miles away with an occupied Britain
I hate saying that as a lot of brave Americans died helping us but idiots like you give a whole nation a bad name.

Europe automatically loses. Crazy Frog ringtone.
Cut the bashing and irrelevant historical references people. Ugly stereotypes say more about a person than it does about the people they're stereotyping.
I will vouch that EVE is not well known in the US.

Australian player here.
I think what characterises ECE far more than the nationailty of the players is the nationailty of the game company.
If EvE was American it would be another McWoWser, appealing to the lowest common denominator in an effort to maximise profits.
However EvE is quirky, reeks of creativity and sticks to its vision. IMO this is soley cos it isn't influenced by major US money men.
Of course the nature of EvE then attracts a certain player type as discussed in this thread, but the game came first, and thankfully it came from Iceland.

I'm from China and that wasn't funny. You'll find 95% of asians who try Eve won't play this game anyway. Trust me, I've tried. It's just not their style of game and where Eve is built on social interaction, they prefer to build themselves up on the backs of others. __
