Would be great! Then everyone should be able to record demos like in Quake/Doom! Very nice would be the feature that the id games have so that the game can render every frame as picture of a recorded demo. And with VirtualDub you can put all pictures together again as a movie. Then there will be no performance problems. I did this once with Doom3 and it worked great. But it's more work than recording with Fraps!

Only one problem: You would be able to spy out other players loadouts. If a person activates a hardener, it must be recorded, and if they have a plate, it must be recorded, or the recording fails. If CCP can ensure loadout confidentiality, I would love to see such a feature such as what is available for Aces High, an MMOFS (Flight Sim) that I used to play.
Another feature that I liked about AH flight recorder was the ability to record directly to a video codec, frame by frame.

But what about the skill? Any fool can press a button... 
IMHO it would be a VERY nice feature for sure but if every angle is
already there it would become a question of who's got the best
editing skills, computer, software and time.
Sorry, but I really like to see when people have made an effort or
when just cheer luck gets you that amazing clip. As with everything
else, I think you should need to work for your goal. 
But as said HELL YEAH anyway!

Would certainly be excellent for large fleet battles and such without lag issues. However, if all that is being saved is geometery points and ship loadouts then all you will end up with is an unedited lump of video footage that you cannot change in anyway. Unless there would be some way to export the footage once you've decided how to view it, its not gonna be very helpful for those of us making video's in Premiere and such.

It won't be saving huge files. Rather then saving the video itself, it will only store info neccasary to recreate the scene. Each EVE client stores the ship textures, sounds, models and everything. If you tell it which ships to show then it can build that from little info. So saved video's won't be huge (hopefully )

"Yay" is the only word in my mind.
And the files downloaded shouldn't be too big, as it'll just be directions of ships etc.
To replay, i guess it'll have pause/play buttons etc so you can start frapsing from it whereever you like. Stop and move camera position, etc. More thoughtful camerawork as theres no pressure of the battle?

If you play a whole day with the battlerecorder on my best guess would be that it'd take up 10MB instead of 100GB with Fraps.

its Demo recorder just like in any other game..... was prety amazed when i first saw that EVE doenst have one.
Demo recording ability is essential, especialy in games of this type.
I pressed search on forums on this subject bout 250 times and this is something that made my day.
Advance camera commands are practicly useless without DEMO recording ability.

Also known as HLTV. Tho, HLTV only records the data. Then it generates graphics from data yarr.. I suspect that'd be a bit more complicated with EvE than HL/CS however.

He's right. At some point it was mentioned that this was going to be put in after the time we got the new camera tools. It was only going to record things like ship movement, firing and such that your client would get from the server. However since it didn't need to wait on the server it could be slowly pre-rendered and let you make a movie from any angle.

As has been stated it's like HLTV. I used to use this to record matches for my TFC (Team Fortress Classic) clan and it was great as you could switch to free view or watch the game through the eye's of any of the players. Was great for sussing out cheats using wallhacks etc.
I would love to see this addition if it was implemented well.
