1v1s are always alot of luck.. its about having the rite setup for fighting each opponent, and its very hard to know how ur opponent is setup... IE close range, fitted with webs, fitted with tracking disruptors, tanked for specific damage, i think u get what im saying.
If u notice the guys in our corp that u have picked as good at 1v1s, they are up top of the loss list ... 1v1s are very risky, iv lost count of the ammount of times iv been fighting 1 guy.. for local to fill and his mates to join in.
2 ppl whom i think, this is gonna be a VERY hard fight are TANK ceo and XpoHoC... Xpo never gets the respect he deserves as hes not i forum user but that guy can fly a tempest.

It's hard to find people who will 1 vs 1, I find myself fighting solo fighting 1 vs 2-4 a lot. While many times it makes for my death it's damn fun

No, it does not. The topic was: "Who's best solo PvPer". Not "Who's been ganking most miners in 0.4". Although I know he's a good PvPer... ;) A merc for example can never ever rack up as many kills as a 'shoot all' player, because he simply lacks targets.
Second; It was about someone you can really comment on, that you've fought against or with. I've never fought him on TQ. Only on chaos, when I may have been the first player ever in a ganka-blaster-thron (like 20 months ago when everyone said it didn't pay off to fit more than 1 mod due to the stacking penalty ). As such, I can't comment on him.

No, it's not alof of luck. It's about mastery @ tactics. To fully know exactly what your ship is capable of. To have complete knowledge about all other ships too, so that you know what to expect and are prepared to abort if something 'strange' is going on. As well as being a top-class scout, and be prepared to take the risk of going around solo in an expensive ship.
Drink up, shoot in. Let the beating begin. Distributor of pain. Your loss becomes my gain...

but then even he eventually died.
But was funny to wake up and to see that ryan just killed 6 BS solo this night again
*Cough* *Cough* And how did it die? Was a very good fight. His setup was superior to mine on the paper, but thanks to him being in 'hunting mode' I could get the fight started at my desired range and came out with 60% structure left. Regardless, his spree was superb, and I was already among his killmails(although that was in a small gang fight), so he gets a nomination from me.
Ryan made a mistake that fight and you rightly won. I thought it was a good end to his run in that ship considering what had happened a few weeks earlier in FD (6 arb siege as loot was fun). Who better to even the score?
My vote has to go to Ryan too. I thought I was good at racking up kills around FD/PF but he took it to new heights stabbing deep into alliance territory in his solo Tempest and coming home with a cargohold full of BS loot every night.
That's the sort of thing I want to learn. How do you get to the point that you're pulling amazing feats off like that?

Like any PvP its about second guessing your opponent(s). If you want to get into it, then my advice would be to start with tech 1 cruisers (id say frigs but u'll struggle to kill anything larger than a hauler or other frigates).
Their more than capable of killing battleships and easily replaceable (remember to insure them). You'll die, lots, unless ofc your lucky or have done it before. But everytime you die u learn something, a harsh lesson that when the same situation occurs again will remind you of what not to do.
Do be worried about dieing, or losing an engagement. Whatever u do, make sure u take something away from it. I've solo pvp'd in both eve and wow, lost a lot of engamgents in both (won a few as well liek ;)) and i've learnt a lot.

Never have I seen so many kill mails posted in an alliance chat over the course of a day from one person.....and he does it on a regular basis. Drunkenone is also an exceptional pilot, i can base that on his videos and on having flown with him ages ago back in teh UFS/DSMA days.
Volt
Escador was an excellent inty pilot, had 2 good 1v1s with him in his crusader... then he decided not to fight anymore claws .
Lorth is amazing solo BS pilot, so is golgrath.

Agreed, I had the displeasure of runnning into Ryan with a BS kitted out to take on NPCs. I really didn't even stand a chance. He definately knows how to fight close range with a Tempest.

I Love this thread, nothing but respect and compliments to those that have inspired and accomplished their own reputations in this game. I'll just add a couple that have inspired myself with their great eve movies are Mitchman and Ioctl of "Cult of Cthulu". As well as Trey Azagthoth, a man that i'll never see eye to eye with, but deserves respect for his fearless styles nonetheless.

I would venture a guess that there is still a screenshot of TankCeo offering us 5 million "to let him go" on one lonely February night in BVIP-9, during the keiretsu campaign. All Tank tries to do is get the drop on folks and gank. Granted, he could pwn me but, prolly not most mentioned in post. |

Originally by: Stormfront Dual 650 II, 800 tech II Tempest are the PWN for 1v1 BS combat TBH.
It's no coincidence that some of the best pvpers in Eve (at least Fedaykin and Ryan) use 800mm II tempests... Before the fuzz about 800mm II tempests there was a fit a certain player in COL used to ravage anyone's ass, no matter if there were 3 vs him or just 1 poor bastard, he'd kill them most of the time in less than 20 seconds (We timed some of his fights for fun), i.e. "The 20 second Tempest"
I used to get equal kills as he thanks to putting ew on my raven when missiles didn't suck huge elephantballs but now I call myself lucky to not just die every time I go out to find a fight.
I really should train for something else than this CCP forsaken race but what's a guy to do when he's got twice as many sp in missiles than in gunnery?
Sry for the rant btw --------------------------------------

Originally by: anister I'm not sure about "best" but there are a few solo PvP'ers that spring to mind and who i get nervous about when i see in local:
Escador Cowboy KIATolon (but at least he's in my corp, still makes me nervous though) Mockingbird (not seen him in a while) Heikki (despite his "lame" tactics) Lord Cyric and although they make me hot and not nervous: Kyle Caldrel, DrunkenOne and Siim. <3
anister, you can't possibly be serious about KIATolon, are you ? I mean, if you're approaching this topic as a joke, then yeah, I'd go for it. KIATolon is maybe under average, that's the best award you could give him. Seriously now.

If someone's good, they get recruited. If you don't recognise most of the names in this thread, I suggest you get out into 0.0 more.
