I knew this was coming, damnit!
I only bought the magazines for their artwork and fiction. They were just fantastic! It was also great reading the articles and watching how the game evolved over the years until I started playing.
CCP, give the artists and writers some liberty to work on chronicles and in-game stories. Maybe this is the solution to the lack of concept art/chronicle art lately... Remember this. Trust your eyes, you will kill each other. Trust your veins, you can all go home. -Cold Wind |

So, so sad about this.
The EON Team are the sole reason I am in gaming:
6 years ago I walked into the MMM Publishing offices because they took a chance with me on EVETV. Since then I have done so so much in gaming and none of it would have happened if they hadn't let me work with them. I have been very lucky to have been included in parts of that awesome publication, and it's something that I always thought made EVE an even more special and unique universe.
EON, you were wonderful. MMM, you are amazing. You will ALWAYS be my 'dirty space uncles'.

And now I regret i never got back into subscribtion. I have 20 issues in print, and was looking into the magazine for plex deal, which I never got prober around to. Something with DRM blocking me from reading it. And as mentioned above. I'd love to have all the issues on PDF, and I'd proberbly rob a bank to pay for it. Please do something about this as a last tribute to the awesome magazine that is Eon. I don't want to unpack my sealed stash of originals to reread them. but having them as PDF I'd reffer to them quite frequently (if I can read them). Think about it as a new year thing maybe? |

I remember my corpmates talking about a magazine with in-game ads. It sounded so impossible, so huge. It made me laugh and got me hoocked just by listening these corpmates reading excerpt. EON was one of two magazine's I've ever had a subscription for; it was an excellent quality publication that I really miss.
Having done it myself, I know that the main challenge of of publishing a quarterly is finding relevant content; anything that's "news" when you're going to press is "olds" by the time you hit doormats, and it's hard to report on upcoming events in a sandbox. EON did a good job in this regard, and always looked amazing. I was pleased to have it on my coffee table, and even non-gamer friends could appreciate it at an aesthetic level.
Unfortunately I, and I suspect a lot of people, have had to tighten our belts during the recent crash, and a magazine about a game fell well inside the "discretionary spending" bracket when the sub renewal came up.
Best of luck to all involved; you should all be proud of producing a quality publication, about a difficult subject and in a very challenging environment! |

I believe all issues are still available for $2 each. This is a real deal if you don't already have all the issues.
I really enjoy my complete collection. Sure some of the articles overlapped with what you can find on the forums, but there were also some real amazing artwork in Eon. I also really enjoyed the CCP staff interviews, especially the frequently asked what is your favorite book question since many of my favorite SFF novels were often mentioned. |

EON Magazine is the publication that started me on a crazy path into writing and game journalism, I owe more to Richie and crew than I could ever repay and wish everyone involved all the best for the future. I feel honoured to have been able to contribute to so many issues. It's disappointing to see EON come to an end, it had extremely professional production quality and each issue served to capture the game as a snapshot in time.
Savira Terrant wrote:Please save EON! Make it payable by Plex and distribute it solely digital to cut costs. EON can survive! This is exactly what I hoped would happen, that CCP would make PLEX redeemable for items in the store or at least EON. Unfortunately it didn't happen, and I think it's too late now to save the magazine as the decision has already been made. |

Unfortunately EON has fallen to the same bugbears that almost all the late, great nerd magazines have succumbed to. The problem is that the large majority get the news from web sites and very powerful smart phones and tablets. They are all out of date by the time of publish.
Even mainstream media is not immune. In my city of New Orleans, even the newspaper which has been publishing daily for more than a hundred years has now scaled back to 3 issues a week and is going to mostly online content.
Problem is, in this age, magazine content is WAY out of date by the time it is read.
Sad, too. There is something to be said about holding a glosssy, pretty magazine in your hand over the glow of a screen. But, alas, why buy classic stuff like Dungeon, Dragon, EON, or other fanzines when you can get the same info that is relevant and more timely over the web. In advancing tech, we tend to lose something..... |

RIP EON
Having read only one issue with articles that are typical for the fanzine scene and printed media going the way of the dinosaurs the very second people began consuming information online rather than in printed form, this is not really a surprise.
That said, I do feel utterly apathetic about it, mostly because of the inherent inadaptability of the EON crew to go fully digital before it was too late. I kill kittens, and puppies and bunnies. I maim toddlers and teens and then more. |

I once entered the first "Postcards" screenshot competition, and I was one of the winners. I received the ISK prize fairly quickly, but the delivery of another prize, the EON issue with my screenshot in it, was a bit troubled. It never arrived and my mails to EON about this went unanswered.
Then I went to Fanfest, and I saw an EON stand. There I was able to see my screenshot in print, and show it to a few corpmates who were there as well. I told one of the EON guys, Oliver, that I had never received the issue, and he gave me another e-mail adress, explaining that the adress I was using was not optimal for that kind of thing, and told me I should write about the situation and that Oliver told me to mail them there.
Soon I got a response, ensuring me that they would take care of it, and they would send some bonus items as well, for the trouble. I waited couple of weeks, and nothing came. So I mailed them again. The next day or so, I got my package, containing the issue with my screenshot, 2 additional EON issues, and a poster. I mailed them again, writing that I had finally recieved the package, and thanked them for the bonus items. The day after that, I got a response, where they said that they already had send out another package, and indeed, a couple days later, I received another package, containing the issue with my screenshot, and 2 bonus issues, bringing the total to 5 different issues. I guess the postal service works funny sometimes.
I never bought an issue. I don't have the time to read them, but I did read the issues that I recieved, and it was a good magazine. I think its a bit sad to see the end of the EON age, if only for the fact that it reduces the chances of having one of my stories printed in there to zero.

PPS:are you guys going to have any paper publication in the future if possible?
PPPS: cant wait for the EVE store's reopen |

Never even looked at EON as I find the idea of reading a magazine about one game slightly absurd and anyhow a waste of time that could be spent on better things, like playing EVE. Apparently most EVE players feel the same. . |

I think it was a good idea and it was well executed regarding content and quality. The only problem was the logistics, which lead to outrageous shipping costs for many parts of the globe. It is a big challenge to produce and distribute a magazine for a limited global community at reasonable production and shipping costs, and the EON staff did not match up to this task (just like the EVE shop, which could really take off when they would be able to get the shipping cost under control).
On the other hand, I guess I know have something what will be traded on collector fairs in a few decades ... "Our lives are not our own. We are bound to others, past and present. And by each crime, and every kindness, we birth our future." Sonmi-451 |

This is really bad news and a bad sign for EVE Online. In the year of the tenth anniversary of EVE Online there should have been a solution to keep that magazine alive. Do not tell me it would have been to expensive for CCP... This is ridicolous.
Thanks to the EON Team, especially Zapatero. I hope you are reading this. Your did a great job. Reading that magazine was a pleasure, waiting for the next issue was always a pain. ;) |

This is really sad, I subbed from issue 1. I loved the glossiness, the artwork and the content was always top notch.
I've been trying to get hold of issue 30 for ages. Looks like the digital distributor has closed the EON store.
I hope that maybe CCP could help fund one-off special edition versions in the future?

So, is CCP Unifex now running the show @ CCP? #29 is the last issue I received. #30 is digital only from Zinio for $9.95, even if you had a running physical subscription and didn't receive all of your issues, at least as far as I have been able to find from public postings. |

original email to me informing me of closure
EON Magazine is closing down
It is with regret that we must announce that EON magazine is closing down after nearly 8 incredible years in production. The economic realities are such that it is no longer viable to continue to produce the magazine in spite of EVE enjoying record success in this its 10th year of operation.
We'd like to take this opportunity to thank you for your loyalty and support over what has been a wonderful period in gaming. We would never have predicted that EON would last as long as it did, and it's solely thanks to you and your fellow readers that the period of EON's existence can only be looked back on as a meaningful and successful one. Together, CCP Games and its vastly creative player community have combined to create something uniquely special, and while EON must unfortunately make way, we're confident that the New Eden story will continue to be chronicled in ever richer forms in the years ahead.
Our only regret is that we are unable to fully celebrate EVE's 10th anniversary with one more issue, but we can reveal that we are collaborating with CCP on a new project, to be revealed soon.
The lights will remain on in the EON Store (eonmagazine.co.uk) until 31st March, where virtually all stock is now at clearance prices and orders will be processed as normal. For those with issues remaining on their subscriptions, we are working with CCP to offer refunds or suitable compensation. If you remain an active print subscriber or have any concerns or questions, please email [email protected] and you should receive a prompt reply.
Thank you once again, and fly safe.

What's the word on making past electronic issues available at a substantially reduced rates (if not free).
I can't bring myself to pay $10 each on Zinio for past issues of a magazine in electronic format. And a format that's not even viewable without proprietary software installed to view it.
At best I'd pay $1 an issue, but then I'm pretty cheap. :-P Like music. The most I'll pay for a song is 25 cents. I don't pirate music, but if songs were priced at a quarter each, I'd be going overboard on buying songs left and right.
So yeah. Any word on the future of the electronic version of past issues? I'm sure there are a few articles here and there I'd enjoy reading, plus I wouldn't mind having them just to collect and preserve them. |
