Why would you hold a live event, then prevent most people from being involved?
If you really can't provide the level of equipment needed to actually allow players to play the game, then you have failed at this idea...
Of course a sharded universe in EvE would probably be even a bigger failure, so maybe you should invest in equipment that can actually provide the service you claim to? |

What hi said if jita is going lagy on 2000k ppl not doing much 1000 ppl shooting will make a mess having ccp letting in ~1600 ppl shooting + navy thing going on + console game kicking hamsters in the nuttsack as well......well that was overkill
What the hell are ppl expecting!!
But CCP made mistake lifting cap to ~1600.

I would not think they are a total fail.
While I have some complaints on the matter, I think they simply underestimated the importance of storyline-related live events to the player base.
Yeah, CCP failed to realize that we eat this stuff up. Everybody who is not into this has to realize, if you like reading science fiction, and the game you play is based on that genre and has books based on it, and the game has events in it that are going to be reflected on in those books, it's like actually being IN the book.
Every time the topic comes up, I try to remind people that this could be the future of books. Not just books that you read and collect, but stories that you participate in while the series progresses.
If there was ever a marketer or publisher brainstorming over how to sell books, and an MMO, and from an education perspective, how to encourage young people to read more, THIS would be it. This would be the perfect storm of accomplishing those goals.
So not all of Eve Online is bored gankers mindlessly killing everything that moves, and bored miners sucking rocks till they are bored out of the game.
Hopefully CCP would realize what they have here, and the potential for it. It might change the way books and games are sold. |

This isn't the first time CCP has had a live event. Given that Jita can accommodate quite a few more players, live events always draw interest, it was utter fail that CCP capped the system at 1025 when I was in it for an hour. HTFU!...for the children! |

There was a system cap of 1600 people, so there was a considerable group at the entrance gates waiting their turn. Once people started dying many of those people waiting got in... while many that died went back in the que to wait their turn.
Also, many people don't really understand what 13% Tidi means, and think that they were lagging out when their computer didn't respond to their commands immediately. The mind boggling thing is they limited the number of people in Jita at a time - then decided to hold an event for everyone who wants to take part in a single system.
The only way a live event would be a real success is by spreading the event over a few systems (say a constellation), that way there's no need for queues to get into one single laggy system. |

I tend to agree with this, they need to take the strain off of individual systems in a large scale event like this... however that means that any Dev's present will need to be spread throughout those systems as well which puts a strain on manpower. U2 Sells tickets. Once they are gone you are told well before the concert - SOLD OUT! They know better to have thousands of fans banging on the gates trying to get in, hoping that some fan will pass out and be hauled off on a stretcher. There would be riots (hmm there's a thought).
CCP should hold a drawing for live event tickets, and just like in RL, players should be allowed to scalp them. Taxes on that sale would be another needed isk sink.

Hmmmm
So if there were previous live events, and players who managed to do certain things on those live events leading up to this onel, and those actions could have been what let them participate, it would certainly even things out.
Unfortunately as logical as that might seem, it's unfair to people who have to work to pay their own bills. One of the things that make this game great is that it's not specifically advantageous to "he who has no life". The basement dweller who can be front and center at all times can have mommy revoke his internet in two seconds, and is not a stable player base as those who pay their own bills and generally stay on for the occasional live event. |

Since EVE is totally incapable of supporting the numbers of people in a single system that apparently wanted to actually be in system today there has to be a way to sort out the most passionate about being there from the hundreds of gawkers/chaff. (Yes, those hundreds of newbie ships in system really put the DPS where it was needed).
You sign up for the drawing and If you win pay nothing more. Paying scalping fees takes the load off CCP to do the sorting.
A very slight mod to the contract system to apply taxes would be the only thing needed to implement the scalping side. A mail based entry system would do the work on the drawing entry side.
** On the other hand, if CCP actually put on live events more often that once in a blue moon there wouldn't be a cattle rush to get into the few that are held. CCP Rising, I believe, said in the stream that live events are held weekly. Really? Since when?

Advertising a huge, groundbreaking, OMG you've got to participate in this event...and only accommodate 4% of the people playing the game? Seems like epic fail to me. Don't forget that this wasn't just an EVE event, but (to my admittedly narrow scope of knowledge) the first Dust+EVE live event, which is still an achievement. Plus, its not like live events have really had much player attendance in the past, so really, your just complaining that there was more interest (and less capacity) than you would normally expect. And as to the amount of PR that went into it, the same could be said of Burn Jita, but thousands of players cried vast rivers of tears at being caught unawares, so you can't really blame CCP for a rather pessimistic view of how many players would actually attend.
You can't complain that live events are a waste of time while at the same time complain that you couldn't attend said waste of time.
Well, you CAN, but you'd be idiotic and deranged to expect such complaints to be received with appreciation. Frogblast the Vent Core! When the W'rkncacnter came, Pthia was killed, and Yrro in anger, flung the W'rkncacnter into the sun. The sun burned them, but they swam on its surface. |

2.5% you mean. 4% would have been a MASSIVE improvement. |

Considering that live events have pretty much flopped in the past, they just went off experience. |

4% bothering with a RP event with none or limited impact on the market or anything else that matters seems a disturbingly high figure ;)

The event started at downtime and for the first 5 hours anyone could come in, those who waited until 20 Moros where on dscan where a bit too late.

1 hour after down time the system had about 500 people in it. 2 hours it was close to 1k After that it was hard getting into the system

Burn jita was a player event BIG difference there.
Also those that say usually live events draw less attention might be true but the thing is CCP overdid it with hyping it and got the backfire from it.If someone asks if it's gonna be one big free for all no concord party and CCP's response is 'come and find out yourself ' you should be aware that you are then drawing a LOT of people to it. Had they been clear from the start then a LOT of those that showed up would not even have bothered in the first place.

confirming i had 0 trouble getting in to luminaire about an hour before the event with a mammoth full of atrons. Want miners to move from high sec to null sec? Then give them a reason to join player corps, and stop null sec grav sites being worth less isk/hour than high sec asteroid belts. Really isn't difficult. |

CCP used what could have been a great story event as a cheap way to promote dust and EVE. The live stream was so terrible just because of the "JOIN EVE AND DUST!, DUST IS FREE PLAY NOW! YOU CAN DO THIS EVERY DAY IN EVE SIGN UP NOW!"
For the tears over the railroading, that I can live with (though the spoilers almost a week before ruined it) the event was ruined for me in that all the small RP groups who turned up had no chance to fight without welping a fleet because there was no way to tell who was fighting for who. If you were not fleeted with someone of part of a large alliance NAP you had nothing to do but KM ***** and hope you got out alive. "Don't count on others for help. Actually, I'm not sure I care if they fix it. I play this game so little these days. Of course the time I choose to try something new, it turns into a total joke...
And if you actually think they are pro, and competent, ask yourself why they would introduce code that effectively reduced the system cap in Jita from 2700 to 2000? If you want to argue with me, come up with an actual argument, and try not to embarrass yourself with childish insults.
I've been hoping for years the CCP would hire some competent programmers and fix some of the many problems with the game. Clearly that is not going to happen. CCP is screwing up the game, and is forced to push Alts for income. This is because they simply don't know how to gain new subscribers, or keep them. They treat there customer base like a bunch of mentally deficient kids, and simply don't care if you like what they do or not. Now, considering the current customer base, they may have reason for this attitude, but it's not going to help in the long run. Nor will help help retain customers..
Perhaps the only hope is that they get bought out....hopefully not by EA....

I don't know.
They announced after some survey results that after 3 years, players tend to not quit, and that goes for me (in fact today is Krixtal's 3rd Birthday!).
If it comes down to EA though, I'll just put myself out of my misery. They already killed SimCity for me, but that's a whole other thread. There is much to be said in favour of modern journalism. In regards to the issue of current technology not being good enough. I wonder this is being planned for use within CCP's server setup.

Added with the eventual release of the future 'Volta' GPU & its 1TB/s memory bandwidth http://www.theregister.co.uk/2013/03/19/nvidia_gpu_roadmap_computing_update/
Eve should get a major kick in the pants when it comes to its ability to concurrently process much larger numbers of players per system with this tech in it's servers.

Are sure its capped at 2k... pretty sure I have been to Jita a number of times in the last few weeks and have seen local in around 2.2k
Also proof would be nice that this indeed has happened.. you know, stuff like Dev blogs, a forum thread perhaps where a Dev has stated this.[/quote]

Are you sure.. so far they seem to be doing a good job on many things such as Ship rebalancing, UI Improvements, Inventory Improvements etc.
If you are such a good programmer why don't you apply for a position at CCP and show them how its done :)
Speaker4 theDead wrote: CCP is screwing up the game, and is forced to push Alts for income.
I know many people who play Eve with only one account and have managed quite nicely. If you want another account its not because YOU HAVE to have one, its because you choose to have one.

Well considering they have more subs now then ever that kind of kills your arguments.
