Ok, ok, I admit it I am stupid !!!
Well I hope that takes care of the people who feel the need to point that out because of my question.
I have the following issue, it's called firewall and it is a bit of a pain in the afterburner. I cannot connect to the internet without passing thru a proxy server. So what... you say just setup a tunnel and you are done.
Right I agree, so thats what I have done the tunnel is there and I can connect to localhost port 26000 and I end up at our beloved EVE server.
Now this is my problem (I can connect to localhost) but the EVE client will not it will only have a chat with 157.157.139.10.
So how can I convince our beloved EVE client to talk to localhost and not to 157.157.139.10 ?
I know there is an awnser out there I have seen a lot of people simply saying: "Have the eve client connect to localhost and you are done.

Well that would interest me also. I am using a proxifier utility FreeCap. This was working for me untill the last patch. I verified that I can connect to 157.157.139.10:26000 via the proxy I am tunneling. Just made a raw connection using Putty with proxy set up. Also all other apps I am using with the utility work fine.
So if there is a possibility to let the eve client use a proxy by himself, I'd realy like to know. Or to make it connect to any address/port I like.
I can probably do this by reverse engineering the client and modifying it, but that is not an option.

EVE can use proxy automatically. I know it because it had problems with Webwasher setup to automatic proxy anouncements.
To manually change server addres (not proxy) you need to check:
networkAdvanced=1
option in: c:\Program Files\CCP\EVE\cache\prefs.ini
and then enter new server address to client instead of Tranquility. I am not sure if you can change port but you can try denoting it after ":".

So if I put a proxy in windows internet options, Eve will use it ?
Cos we have a autoproxy script in place that filters destination addresses and tells the browser the righ proxy to use.

Thanks all for the quick replies...
I have been messing with this a bit and got to the point where I am able to see the number of users connected and I am able to get to the point where the handshake is done...
But, when I click connect I get to the following hurdle. It says it's doing the handshake and then the client just disapears...
I think there still is something that is not quite working but I don't know for sure what it might be... if anyone has seen this behaviour before please let me know.

Do you think you could let us know what settings HTTPort 3.SNFM should have?

I got the same result when using Webwasher with broadcasting proxy. Maybe EVE can't use it properly. No idea.

Direct it to use localhost instead of Tranquility address.

pretty sure eve cant connect over a proxy server as some udp is used, not 100% sure on it tho. Im currently connecting using a SOCKS server in the States rather than a proxy, as in my country (South Africa) Shapes our international bandwidth.

Have put up a test proxy for you all to use (and test for a while).
I have tried it myself during the day and it works fine for me.
You need to add this line into your prefs.ini if you want to connect via another port than 26000.
Line to be added: networkAdvanced=1
Start up EVE and you should be presented with TQ and below a box saying 26000.
For server simply type: eve-proxy.eve-files.com And use the port you wish to use (any port that your firewall/router does not block). Port 80 should work in almost all cases.
Then connect and you will connect through EVE-Files and to TQ.
The only issue I found out so far is that sometimes the connection times out, I belive that my firewall is disconnecting due to inactivity (so if you play active you should be fine), but I cannot confirm this as the servers today hasn't been what they should.
Let me know how it goes, and your thoughts.

Hey Chribba,
your proxy worked perfectly... yesterady. I didn't change any of my settings, but today I receive the following message:
"invalid version of client for selected server"
(I'm connecting through a router which block all ports eccept 3128)
I would be glad to play again. thanks |

CCP released a patch today, you need to install it. Not sure you can do that via my proxy, if not download it manually from the patch pages.
Should work fine after that.

Can anyone confirm that using the proxy eve-files.com is safe? I don't want my account to get abused.

I have no means of trying to steal anyones account, nor do I have the interest - and as it is my servers I would be the only one able to perform such a thing and I promise you I am not putting my reputation on the line by doing such a foolish thing.

Say I wanted to play a different game with a friend but there's a router in between us and there's no direct ip connection option for the game. How would I get it to work?
