Edited by: Morkt Drak on 28/07/2003 20:47:47 RUS are far from being a "mega-corp"... far far from it.
Their reasoning for this "alliance" is totally obscure other than if they think the smell TTi as being "ready to crumble" , which is highly doubtful.
RUS are still recovering from their failed extortive attempts against SA, a conflict itself which left RUS's reputation tarnished and which is now totally blackened.
Who now will ever trust RUS Corp again?
It'll be interesting to see if this is an actuall alliance or just some bizare political shenanigins.
Picking on TTi moving to Venal is as far from "home" as RUS and M0o can manage also - RUS should have learned from the SA conflict that extended warfare at the end of long supply lines is highly dangerous.
Neither have they replaced all loses from the SA conflict let alone have enough mineral reserves too support another war...
Not too mention; can they trust SA not too come knocking at their door whilst they are off galavanting with m0o OR, indeed, trust m0o not to "Do a Brutus" at the right moment.
Either way RUS's reputation is now firmly past its "best before" date.

I think M0o and RUS will find TTi not nearly as much a push over as they believe, considering that if TTi does move to venal they do not need to declare war, just stay in 0.0 systems. And whilst RUS has been spending money fighting stain, TTi I'll wager has a full pocketbook. (M0o probably does also, but then I love m0o anyway.)
Besides, RUS's fear factor kinda died when every corp and there grandparents got battleships.

Morkt, I wish i could see the evidence of all these claims. And just what is a mega corp? 100+ members seems to be on the crest of the EVE wave to me. Your lack of concrete information is astounding. Why would SA attack RUS? There is nothing to gain from it. If anything the SA will be focusing within the alliance to make it that much stronger. But, what the hell, I got the truck parked around back... you still got your shovel?

I think Morkt was speaking hypothetically, boss.
SA and RUS are done and dusted - the ceasefire holds true and I'm just as excited as anyone to hear about TTI's first REAL conflict - let's see if their phsyical might matches their financial might.

How exactly do they plan on hurting taggart? It's not like taggart can't EASILY replace anything lost in a fight, even if taggart is a worse fighter than m0o and RUS, they will smash them both economy wise.... Anything taggart loses is just like a drop in the bucket... Just build another Apoc, its not that hard and only takes a few hours lol, and when you are taggart getting the resources isnt that hard.

... dammit, i really thought RUS guys are simply making fun of the recent Fountain thing, and of their own demands from the previous conflict with SA... o,o

Ya know if I was RUS I wouldn't be publically advertising "our next extortion attempt" while the last one went so publically "****up" and their enemies form "that previous one" were still intact (and one would assume, somewhat miffed at the attack)

Nybbas,
Here's how the war will pan out:
1. M0O and RUS will kill every single TTI Indy they see. 2. M0O and RUS will find where TTI mine and take out the miners as often as possible. 3. M0O and RUS will use hit and run tactics rather than face the oodles of battleships TTI own - fighting skill doesn't count for much when you reach a certain number of battleships :) 4. TTI will start to struggle to get minerals to replace the ships they will inevitable lose.

Well now, I guess RUS has proven that its very own post regarding the SA and RUS conflict was indeed a Lie. Its funny, my sources say that 50% of the SA alliance corps never even committed forces because the need was so small vs RUS. Interesting that RUS has downsized its opponent AND gotten someone else to help.

I've been a RUS supporter since beta. I liked many of their kind and peaceful members, I liked the mystery and intrigue that followed with such a corp, I liked the great power they showed towards any oncoming enemies. I liked how they were one of the first corps to give m0o an ass-spanking. I didn't really agree with the way war was declared on the Stain Alliance, but I supported their cause nonetheless.
But this? What the hell is this Ron1n? You're a god damned pirate now, thats what. Even I can see that you did nothing in Stain region but make them stronger. I have nothing for or against TTI, but I realize they have never done anything to anyone.
You now ally with m0o, the most hated pkers in EVE and your former enemy, to extort and pirate a peaceful corp?
I hold some good will towards those RUS members that saved my ass from m0o on more than one occation, but does this mean they're now out to get me? Seriously, no respect to the leadership in RUS, none at all. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

Morkt, RUS did have something to gain by attacking us. So, I do know WHY RUS would attack the SA. May not be what they think/claim/did it for but from my point of view it is pretty clear.

"Those "Corp-savy" will no doubt remember TTi moved out of Venal, if rather quietly, and concentrated its wealth and mining operations elsewhere, the Bistot had run out and Evolution Corp (formally TAOSP) had been waging a successful "war" against the Venal Alliance in the Venal Region for a while - {ED: - Whilst TTi weren't part of the Venal Alliance (their being a piratical alliance after all) TTI were nevertheless dragged into the conflict as Evolution failed to discriminate between TTi shipping and VA shipping. In truth Evolution Corp~ was essentially taking over Venal for their own purposes.} At that time MD didn't pursue a particularly effective campaign, halfhearted due to the movement of TTi personnel out of Venal in anycase and largely unskilled due to lack of experienced pilots (the TTi Navy was more practiced at firing mining lasers than combat lasers).
So, criticized very heavily from within, MD have "organized" for TTi leadership to call for a return to Venal where, in MDs words, "The gloves will be off". No more hassle from the "Jackals".
Of course what MD had too promise in the meantime was obviously the eradication of a threat from the "Hyena" (Evolution) who have been stalking the TTi Lion with some success. How can MD promise this with so few combat experienced pilots? Obvious really - join the Venal Allianc"
Okay, here is the very simple story about TTI and the Venal Alliance.
Once upon a time, TTI was in the Venal Alliance. Then one of Evolutions ships was attacked by a corp doing border patrol. This ****ed off evo corp so they invaded us (Venal Alliance) suddenly and with out warning.
There was a standoff for about a week where Evolution pretty much had us scattering and on the run all over the place in 6nj and y4 making it difficult to get forces together to repel them. We are a newly formed alliance and just starting to get to really know each other and get the machine oiled and running. That just made things even harder.
Now seeing how this was an attack on the alliance, it was expected with out reservation that TTI would join in and help fight.
You know what the reply was in so many words:
"Take us out of the alliance and put us on the NAP. We have already lost 5 ships to them. We are like RUSS corp"
I guess they thought if they shoved the broom stick up our allaince collective asses it would get evolution off theirs. Sorry to say it didn't work, and quite frankly I am happy for that. I am thinking the RUSS corp part was to try and strike fear at us if we messed with them after they left the alliance we would have trouble. I just have to laugh.
Anyhow, after being ***** slapped around by evolutions 5-8 battleship detatchment and x amount of cruisers, we finally got forces together and chased them out (for the time being - I expect they will be back again someday).
And would you believe it was indy ships that made the difference ?
So I don't know where all this talk is coming from about TTI joining up with the Venal Alliance after the "big f*ck you" they gave us at the first sign of trouble.
Do you honestly think this alliance is going to help protect TTI after all this?
LOL
I would hope we would chase them out of Venal if they tried to set up shop there. At least thats my vote on the matter.

Technically, we left Venal after Venal started using industrials for ECM boats, which was a damn good tactic by the way;) And we only lost one ship to Venal, and that was me. Yey me:P

Thnaks to Halseth for that tibit- interesting.
Crimson - yes old chap i don't disagree with you at all "Why would SA attack RUS?" - I don't see any reason.
My point is though - RUS seem very confident in that feeling also, confident enough to leave home and go wage war on the other side of the galaxy (so too speak).
Please remember that whatever "deal" (if any) was made to "end" the SA v RUS war is not really common knowledge.
That is was all rather pointless , at this stage, other than granting combat experience MDW has already pointed out.
I just can't shake the question out of my head though: "Why are RUS so confident they can go wage alongside m0o with nary a concern for any SA retirbution?"

""So I don't know where all this talk is coming from about TTI joining up with the Venal Alliance after the "big f*ck you" they gave us at the first sign of trouble.""
Its come right from "the horses mouth" - a reliable and proven source ("The Mole") from within TTi.
TTi are on the way to Venal and have done a deal with the Venal Alliance - at least thats what Ragnar has told their membership.
Is the Venal Alliance denying any such deal?
