As the topic suggests.
I say it's viable in some circumstances. I got hoots of derision from some of the community.
Your opinions?

fill ur mids with cap mods and EW. i'd say its viable.
if u were in a gankageddon, the worst thing u could meet would be an armor tanked raven with a scrambler, AB and 4 tracking disruptors

That's heresy to even think of such a thing! This thread needs to be buried into the abyss of this forum.
Armor tanking Ravens...what a great way to get yourself killed.

think outside the box 5 slot armor tank ent bad. on the other hand, 6 slots full of EW and running a full tank is REALLY good

not really... if you have problems with it, let me suggest you some advisors: BURN EDEN
Anyway you can easily armor 'tank' raven.
1600mm plate, med. repper, some hardeners. Fill med slots with EW stuff and that's it. Use cruise launchers on hi...

In a pure dps outputted vs dps tanked comparison, sure.
Thankfully, EVE isn't just about that.
Edit: Ah, your second post made the tone of your first a bit clearer :p.

No dammit, don't think outside the box. Stay inside the box and follow the wisdom Raven pilots have imparted thoughout the last 2 years.
Comon man...I'll give you isk if you just let this thread die and the idea forgotton. People should stay with the classical setups.

I don't think it's bad. You got plenty of mid slots for utility. Don't see why you couldn't just armor tank it. That's the cool thing about the raven though. Still be doing good damage armor tanking heh. But still prob get put down by someone with controls on.
I vent for ECM Raven. I think that's a better solo ship vs any target including other Ravens.

tbh i always thought that the pg:cpu ratio and the base hps was a bigger factor in tanking than the slot configuration.
the volume of low to mids when setting up a tank normally just means the difference between using cap rechargers or cprs.
so on that theme the biggest obstacle for me to set up a decent armor tank on a raven has nothing really to do with slots but more about the pg available for reppers AND weapons.
i have problem in reverse trying to shield tank a tempest which ironically minmatar is meant to "lean" towards. its always cpu i struggle with.

You wanna think outside the box? Try an EW/Nano Raven with MWD. Kite in PvP while tacklers hold the enemy down for you.

With max cap skills, a Raven can run a dual TII large rep, 3 hardener tank indefinitely using standard TII gear. And still fit a full rack of cruise launchers. Anyone who thinks that isn't viable has their head jammed up their ass

Actually from around Januaray to about May of 04 the best raven set ups used armor tanks. Now today if you have Adv.wepons upgrades 5 and hull upgrades 5 you can theoretically make a viable armor tank raven.
theoretical set up for frig killing
6 T2 crusie ml
3 cap recharger 2s 2 t2 target painters 1 10km webby
1 T2 Energisd Adaptive nano 1 Thermal armor hardener 1 Kinetic Armor Hardener 1 Large Vestement Armor rep 1 t2 medium For an armor tank you only option for your high slots is crusie missle launchers, which is kinda a good thing cuz with high skills and supported by 2 t2 target painters they are evil in gangs. So if you get someone to tackle and you have Long Distance Jamming 5,Frequency Modulation 5,Target Painting 5,Electronics 5 and Signature Focusing 5,you can more then double the sig radius of a af by yourself and that means they have a sig raidius equivalent to your Omens,Caracals, stabbers and vexors and thats to a af,now picture that on a HAC,BC,Logistics crusier and hell even another bs,you now have a very lethal ship.

*sigh*
I guess this one won't die anytime soon so I'll toss in my 2 cents.
If you got isk and equipment to risk, then play with the following setup:
4 Heavy Energy Neutralizers (5 if you have the skill; may need an RCU II as well) 4 ECM 2 Heavy Cap Boosters (800s) 1 Med armor rep II 3 armor hardeners (or 2 hardeners + a 1600 plate) 1 RCU II
You won't be killing thing with this, but you can shut down a whole lot of battleships.

6x cruise launchers 6x cap 2s 2x large armour rep 2s, 3x hardeners
you can run the 2 large reps forever, may be able to drop a cap recharger, not too sure

the advantage of an armor tanking raven is that u can fit sensor boosters, ecms, webs, scramblers or target paitners or whatever smart things in the mids. yeah, sure, that armor tank is maybe better than the standard large extender, 3 hardener, xlarge booster+amplifier shield tank, but sounds a bit odd for me

why not use cap boosters instead of "wasting" slots on cap rechargers?

Hehe, you must own a shield extender BPO
Not only is the setup viable, makes a lot of sense.
Wonder if anyone is shield tanking a Domi and loading up on damage mods outside of station fiddling.

6x dual 250mm's shield tank including cap booster damage mods.......with the drones a very nice damage dealer. good for small ganking groups.

First of all, sorry for my bad english. Im really sick and tired 5pdu II/ballistic control and shield tankin raven, was good, but now obsolate with missile changes. Uwill get killed by a couple of assault frigs. Cmon guys be more creative. Armor tanking raven its a very very good tactic if u have good skills. Im absolutly armor tankin my raven in PvP, try it, u will not regret it. Low : Large armor rep II, 3 hardener (kinetic, explosive, thermal), if u are sure that u will not fight vs mimmatar drop the explosive fit a hardener that gives %15 (%20 tech II) to all res and 1600mm. Ull have ~8-9k solid armor (depend to the armor plate) whos far better then shields (I have all mechanics 5 and more then 3m in engineering, so yes i allready shield tanked my raven) Mid slotsensor booster and warp dis if u dont have a tackler. But 1 thng is sure lots and lots of ew, Im using 1 sensor booster, 1 warp dis, 4 ecm multi II. I did many test with other pilots with this setup worked well. Killed 3bs 1vs1. Worked well! Whats negative? : U need uber skills in electronic for ew and for cruise missiles cause u cant fit 6 siege launchers. If ur oppenent use cap booster (Blasthron) u will have hard time to killhim (i killed a blasthron after 5min pvp, he logged off when it was in hull but was too late )

Agree with the above post ;) High: 6x cruise Mid: 1x 20km scram, SB II, 4x Multispectral II Low: Either 4 BCS 1 PDU (if u need to make it fit) Or... armortank it.... as written in the above... Thing is you can jam most stuff with 4x T2 multis if you have decent EW skills, so you don't really need to tank... But tank helps you, if you're facing bigger odds :)

ok I'll explain in a very slow voice...
Ravens ALWAYS shield tanked, so armour tanking them feels wierd.. dead simple. Yes I know it works... honestly get a frigging personality , better yet leave your computer for more than an afternoon per month and you might just get one.

how about armor tanking if you're fighting bloods / sansha's?
Something like rcu rep 1-2 hardeners bcm. Web + cap rechargers in mids, web, maybe ab, ew.
