The fact the game kicks your butt if you play stupid. The fact that (excluding bpo lottery luck) smart tactics win. The way you can always threaten to bankrupt yourself with greed and almost never truly reach a point of complete game omnipotence or plateau.
My personal favorite: That you can snap out of a daze after just chatting in a station all night or watching a movie and have not even undocked and not be overwhelmed with the sudden dread realization that you've not made some obligatory nightly XP grind.
Eve, the perfect Mistress. So hard to avoid her but so easy not to feel guilty if you do.

greatest moments for me was when I first started, having a small corp of m8s and working our arses off to get frigates and cruisers; the first days in low sec when gate rats wtfpwned us, and you didn't know what you'd find in the next system. (that roll back sucked tho, and the fact GMs had to move me and my corp to empire cos of the gate rats being uber!).
Things that I still love about eve... warping, ships, weapons, skills & the 'politics'. the fact you're more or less free to do what you want, good (i'd say great but....) customer support and community.
the smaller things... taking out big ships in lil ones, fleets and pirating.
...oh, and the SIZE of eve. i love it.

Yep, it's there... watch as you enter warp, as your ship accelerates you'll see the forward-facing colors shift blue, and the reward facing colors drag out to reds.
It's nice and subtle. Like a lot about this game.
Like say, how when you zoom into the billboard screens you'll notice the image is made up of red, green, and blue pixels. :)

All their base belongs to EVE. ------ I generally assume the following: 1. 95% of Empire Carebears don't get 0.0 PVPers. 2. 95% of 0.0 PVPers don't get Empire Carebears. 3. 100% of Ore Thieves steal just to upset the Miners. |

so many ways to answer this one and i suppose that in itself is my fave bit of EVE. the layers of complexity in this game and the interdepence of the playing community on each other is awesome. even tho sometimes its not always obvious.
if i had to single out one specific thing it would be the jove parts collection event. i was still in my npc corp at the time and a group of us got together and went into deepest darkest 0.4 to hunt blood raiders for the body parts. for me that was my real initiation into what eve is all about and that group still forms the nucleus for the corp i am now in over a year later.
for any new players coming into the game all i can say is stick with it guys. almost 2 years and counting for me now and i'm still learning new stuff.
it is a bit worrying tho when i have my skill training in eve mapped out for the next 6 weeks but in RL i'm not sure what i'm doing the day after tomorrow.

The few moments of absolute adrenalin rush you get in a big fleet battle.... It's a high you won't get anywhere else. I've been playing for over 6 months, and I still have to have a cup of tea and mop my brow after a big battle or a tense one-on-one. LOVE IT!

Everything you do in EVE means something and you can actually make a difference in the game world.
I like the Factions and how you can get good and bad reputations.
I like how you can see players warping far far away as little streaks across the sky.
And the stars in the distance blinking like real stars do.
Having all the players on one server together
The Website and the stories on it.
The detailed story of EVE is a good one you can really get into.
Prices are set by players.
The ships are detailed and fun to ride.
The mature environment and complexity.
I like turning the roids into beautiful parts on ships that will travel the universe.
Being able to build floating cities with groups of other players and run them.

Agreed.
I remember when I first got ganked in my hauler. Everything I owned went up in smoke. I couldn't believe it. I went crazy and looked for a 'load' button. I begged the pirates for my loot back. I had never been so angry. The only posession I had was my Tristan back in Oursulaert. I had lost everything, and there was nothing I could do about it. Life was unfair.
This experience early on in my EVE career has such a huge impact on me. Afterwards, when I had calmed down I realised that this was the only game I had ever played that had had such a huge emotional effect on me.
Now I actively look forward to fitting my ship, taking it into combat, risking everything and putting it all on the line. Sure you lose sometimes, but when you win, the satisfaction is unbeatable.
That's what I love about EVE. It's playing for keeps. |

- Da Shaky hands! - ...as Graelyn said it (with or without punctuation ) - That dieing actually hurts, not like, "Ooh, I died, better start runnin after my body" ) - The scale of the game... just one real server, its freaking huge! - The Detail. Enough said. - The balance. No matter what the whiners say, the races are very well balanced, while the game is still free to develop further. - The DEVs. Actually asking what the community wants. *wipes brown off nose* - NO XP GRINDING!!! I have been in Iraq for 4 months, and can't tell you how much I love that I'm not 4 months behind my friends in combat abilities because I couldn't play to grind. Have you ever noticed that there are more ways to describe evil, unpleasant, or just plain bad things than wholesome, nice things? More ways of describing pain, torment, loss, anguish and despair? It's just human nature to dwell on the negative. We have evolved to ***** and moan our way from cradle to the grave and even then, some people come back to keep on with the *****ing and moaning (assuming you believe in ghosts )
We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at stars. (Sig best viewed with Firefox)

Non-consensual PVP
Actual loss in-game. Too many games offer a convienant load button or the ability to give back most of what you lost.
Because I wasnt paying attn (sound effects is always on now) I lost my thorax + 25million in items. 1/3 of my total worth. Rarely does a game do that to you.

1. The fact that CCP made tha game I had always been dreaming of. 2. The fact that they are dedicated to keeping it unsharded. 3. Skill packs - no more grinding meaningless pve targets to get a 'level' (eeek) 4. The way that even the smallest player with limited skills can join in and really make a difference.

Some of Eve's greatest successes.......
1. Free upgrades. What other games give you free expansion packs? Ah.... none!
2. Player driven economy. Alot of games say they're player driven but aren't. Or they're subsidized by some kind of mystery npc welfare network or something. Most of Eve's economy is pure player driven. As someone who is an industrialist I appreciate that.
3. Graphics. I mean they're just awesome. I mean my God. I only see new games coming out now that approach the scope and beauty of Eve.
4. The Genre. Space, the final frontier, Eve. Other then Earth and Beyond (like a cartoon) what other space MMPORPG has there been? Only a few and none near the size and scope of Eve.
5. One Server, One Community. Having everyone on one server is perhaps the greatest accomplishment. I know I'm looking at another game due out next year and already we're running into issues like "which server will we be on?". With Eve it isn't an issue.
6. Responsive Customer Service. I know we've all had times when we think "where are the devs?". But I know they're working hard. My petitions get answered. Iy take a couple days when its busy but they DO get nswered. I can think of a few games where they suck your money from your account and don't do anything to earn it. Well Eve isn't one of those games. Eve customer service really seems to try. I don't always like the answer but I GET AN ANSWER...... that means alot.
There are alot more....... but Eve simply rocks. Over three years here going back to early Beta and I love it as much as ever. I'm on a two month break now because I got "bored" (and busy) but already I'm thinking at work "what should I do next in Eve". A short break to recharge and already its like drug withdrawl. There is simply no other game around like Eve. No community as vibrant as Eve.
Nothing else like Eve period.

So true! A friend asked why I didn't play WoW.. I said, "Eve is gritty. WoW is fluffy."
Challenge and consequence. Other games avoid these things like the plague. Eve embraces and thrives off them....

I think the graphics are stunning, the detail and variety is quite impressive. I enjoy the vast ammount of options available to me from activities, to ships and modules, to flying styles. The most enjoyable is the human factor you cannot get from a single player game - this really brings the tension up and for me is where most of the fun comes from.

My highlights...
* These forums give me something to do when I'm at work.
* The penalties for screwing up help create an enormous adrenaline rush in a balanced fight.
* The fact that you're always discovering new ways to play the game.

I'll also have to say: everything.
I am hooked to eve since more than one year before beta started and I'm not planning to leave anytime soon. Eve has everything I demand from a good game.

What do I love about EVE........EVERYTHING!
It's a game that you must think to play, for in a single, shared universe your actions will bring about reactions.
I think the thing I love most is that in a game with over 16K people on, at times, you as a single individual can alter and affect the universe. You are more than 'player1804'.
In EVE, you are truely the master of your own destiny and not simply one of many.

Real time stuff. - POSes and Skill training that just keep going, regardless of what you're doing.
PvP. Competing in the market, competing in space. Real risk of loss, meaning that enforcing your will becomes feasible (an alliance can assert a claim, and if they destroy 'invaders' enough then they can be forced to withdraw).
Big universe - lots of people, and lots of places to be. And a notable distance between them.
POSes and Outposts - Players can build stuff. They provide resupply and resourcing points, especially in low sec/0.0
'automated' combat - No joystick waggling to shoot an opponent, but lock 'em, and let your ships computers do the rest.
Gangs flying in formation.
The complexity of the game - there's so many permutations of fittings and capabilities, and things can be complicated, so it takes a little more thought than 'bash mob, get uber weapon of doom, kill everything'.
The fact that whilst skillpoints/old character make a difference, they don't make an _unbeatable_ difference. In many games, twice your level means you have absolutely no chance against your opponent. In EVE, 3 million SPs can take someone with 6million sps, or even more on a good day. (And even more so with a decent gang/teamwork)
