This would not be trinity V2. Actually, none of the REALLY big things like shaders, lighting, etc would be effected. This pack would simply use the original artistic work for EVE online. When the ship skins are made, they originally work with an extremely high resolution to be able to get the kind of quality and fine detail they want. It's kind of hard to explain why, but it's just easier to get the kind of gritty / dirty looks of minmatar ships and things like that in a higher resolution image. They then take this high res image and down-sample it to a lower resolution for use in EVE. This is because high resolution ship textures cause more client side lag and would only really be great for non 400 man blob warfare.

June 6th, PC dies - enraged that I'll be unable to play Odyssey.
June 19th, new video card and PSU for birthday. Inspired.
June 30th, new mother board. Excited.
July 7th, new memory. Eager.
July 25th, new processor. Determined.
July 26th, find out high definition texture packs weren't released - having expected to see them considering there was such great feedback in regards to it and considering -it was something that was already done and needed barely any work at all beyond distribution-.
So, what gives? I mean, almost two months later I expected these to be back, I was going to celebrate and use the Hi-Res texture pack as my new PC's benchmark...
Oooooh, I see. This must be like that thing with Dust 514 where they tease the community to see if they like the idea and then turn around and say that it's not going to happen in favor of 'x' fix/balance pass. I got'cha. |

It's something the art and graphics teams are pushing for internally according to answers given about this at Fanfest. I don't see why they would suddenly turn around on this.

Just found this post.
This seems like a strange thing to say - The graphics and art teams both mentioned that this could be an optional pack and that there would be relatively little work involved. @CCP Soundwave , if you're reading this, the maintenance cost would be offset quite well by the added publicity you could get from for example fan videos. Also, people playing on older laptops aren't even using the current high settings so if you're worried about that, i'd make EVE a wireframe game so that you can play it on the BBC Micro or something... If you have scalable options, use them! Less people would be able to use tesselation effectively than 4k textures but tesselation is still being developed.
If you can scale it properly, include it. Don't hold back on stuff just because some people can't use it, they already enjoy EVE as it is anyway.
If you do things right, people won't be sure you've done anything at all... |

It's like the 200 pieces of clothing they have ready and never released. It's aggravating.
Also, screw the people with crap laptops, go buy a good pc and stop forcing companies to design for the lowest common denominator
