This wouldnt be exclusively for haulers.
It would benefit anything with a cargo hold.

Very good idea! It would give the hauler/trader profession much more of a real choice for a new player. And even if one doesnŠt decide to specialise, it would be nice to have the choice, ie. to train a skill that expands the cargobay of your t1 mining frig or your first indy a bit.

My thoughts were always there should be more mechanic skills.
one to increase cargohold by 2% per level.
one to increase drone bay by a % per level

I would definetely like to see this implemented, I know the devs have mentioned the possibility of skills to compress ore or the likes before, though not gotten around to it, at a guess its ones of those things that needs a bit of programmer time to implement. . ----- Apologies for any rambling that may have just occurred.

That's all great, but why do this? What's wrong with oh god, making more than one trip to haul stuff? Or getting a few of your corp buddies in haulers to move stuff in a single push?

Winterblink: Just so you know, "we need something for newbies to do" is forum slang for "I want to be able to train my alt to do it quickly".
For what it's worth, I'm with WB on this one. ______________________________________________

We all know that if they add a skill to compress ore 25%, that they will up the ore volume 25% first.

I didn't want to be entirely too obvious with that, but I'm glad someone picked up on it.

For those that haven't flown a freighter, they are slow as dirt, with the turning ability of a brick, and they take forever to go into warp even after aligning. I would rather take 3 itty5 runs, then 1 run in my freighter. But the freighter has its uses.
So these skills look good for making the common hauler a bit more able. Though also the ability to pack in ammo tighter in a cargohold is good.

Yar, it might be easy to train an alt with some of the skills, lets make them rank 16 and require capitol ship construction 5...
Geeze you guys don't remember how much it sucks to be a new player do you, trust me, more useful content for new players is a good thing.
Otherwise we might as well make gunnery and mining rank 8 skills.

Here's the problem with all this discussion about new hauling skills:
CCP's pattern of behavior isn't consistent with adding new skills to make things better/easier/more fun.
Instead, CCP's modus operandi is to take away from the entire player population something they have, and then give it back to them only if they train the new skills.
They did it with turrets, they did it with trade, and they did it most recently with missiles.
And only if you're willing to train such skills to level 5, diverting training time away from other skill areas, do you see the aspect of the game better/easier/more fun than it was before the skills were added.
Considering CCP's demonstrated preference for the nerf bat over more creative solutions, you should all be careful what you wish for.

Hey this is a great idea, tho i think as WB suggested they should be a bit specialised. _________________________
