Lets let some of the people know, Pirates do have a Code. Please give examples of the pirate code. For example if they pay the amount u ask for you wont pod them. I got a ransom once and let her go and was warping out when rats got the pilot. Am i wrong i didnt kill the ship. Got a bit of a scolding from the pilot. But hey let people know that we do have a code, and most abide by them.

Edited by: Rocko MonkeyBone on 28/09/2005 22:30:23 Edited by: Rocko MonkeyBone on 28/09/2005 22:29:41 I'm not a pirate, but if there is a -10 to my corp or alliance, and their mining or in a ship I dont deem a threat I'll ask for a pay off. Once they pay I click "Unlock Target" and send the message of "Fly Safe". Then warp out. The next time I see them I say hello, but dont engage. So far the ppl I have ransomed have actually told others I have honour and a code to match. If they dont pay, obviously the insurace company pays them =), I may then ask for a little share of it...but 9/10 times I let them go, ship kill can hurt the wallet beyond insurance payout.
I have only had to gank 1 guy who called in his corp and all started to smacktalk...waited till he screwed up and went to a belt solo, and then made him pay....oh and he forgot to insure his ship...BONUS!
So long as you are trust worthy and honourable in everything you do, your reputation will grow and preceed you.
Rocko.

I've decided I'll give everyone I engage a chance to pay, but if they log... then I'll toss a coin on their fate ~~~~~

Personally, I don't think that there is a real code. People can accept your ransom, then blast you to pieces the next second. They can make promises, but at any time they are free to break them. They can lie, steal, betray and scam.
However, in EVE, people are only as good as their reputation. So if they make a promise, their word is there bond. Also, pirates who break their word incur the wrath of other pirate outfits who seek to protect the reputation of their profession.
In short: if a pirate makes a promise, you can be damn sure he will stick to it. But anything can happen, so keep that in mind too, as an outside chance. As the OP said "most abide by [the code]".

aye, when u get ransomed u should pay up. we dont ask for unfair amounts, and if u think it is unfair say so. closing channel will only end in u getting ur pod ransomed too (and then WE KNOW u got isk cos of the insurance pay out of ur ship) plus we get the loot too, which is always nice. ive never ransomed and then not let someone go after they've paid. its just bad karma. plus if u catch m again later, they aint gonna pay u a secon time if u didnt let them go the first.

But any amount is unfair isn't it its not like a tax that if you pay you get you binman comming around or get an electricity supply, your attacking a target and demanding a fee or they don't die, the way you describe it is like a fair fee for something you might want, and getting your hauler held up low sec by a pirate is never what anybody wants.
TBH I'm getting a little fed up of the 'I'm a pirate, I steal, gank and grief normal players to get my money and thrils. I am the very definition of a egocentric player, therofore the whole population of eve should praise me...'

Ofcourse its fair :) Its a public service. 1. We keep the market running, so you carebares SHOULD praise us, if not worship. 2. Its a very fair tax to pay to stay alive. Lets call it Personal security tax. 3. We are not egocentric, we are Capitalistic.
Cheers :)

i used to do the "pay for the NAP" thing back in orlon corp, but then we ended up with the entire region blue to us. so i dont bother anymore. personally, i like to **** people off as much as humanley possible, because the eve-mails you get back are much funnier. although if they do pay i do let them go etc.
edna had a dude that sent him an eve-mail back once that said "you killed me because im deaf, you racist <explative deleted>" with another paragraph following full of explatives. to me, thats worth more than a measly 5 mil or something stupid. _______________________________________________

Edited by: SteppinRazor on 30/09/2005 12:23:03 Pirate Code .. too bad pfffft and Kjewla (Teddybears) didn't think about it when these gatecampers PodKilled me .. I would have paid a ransom of twice the value (not price) of my ship to get away in one piece .., but they didn't .. I found it a bit lame and 'out-of-roleplay' .. but that's live ..

how can they ransom you?
When you jumped in and saw local with lots of -10 people you should have convod one and then paid a ransom.
