(just quick repost here, since the original is buried few pages deep in random thread in Videos section, and it's sort of relevant to ship and modules ;s
EVE ship size comparison chart, half-size (2048 pixels, for wallpapers and suchlike) EVE ship size comparison chart, full size (4096 pixels, for detail nuts and people with good printers, i guess)
(compiled using the in-game models; sizes might be not 100% accurate, if there's some additional scaling applied through the ship .blue files... still, thought it makes kinda interesting picture ;s

I think that's the Opus Luxury Yacht.
Also, in the Caldaru=i section, I can see the Badger I & II, but there's a third, larger vessel. Can anyone say if this is one of the transports or maybe an unused Badger III model? --------------------------------------------------------------------- "Who is the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" "What's the greenish gallente thing in the bottom right?

I've added png version of half-size chart here but the full size is just too large for that, am afraid :/
The strange gallente ship is Luxury Yacht, like Stephen said ^^
(the long badger is supposed to be the update for caldari transport model i think, possibly for Bustard... it was added to game files recently)
Seng: i didn't add titans to the chart because am guessing CCP will want to rework their models before they add them, now that dreadnaughts and possibly carriers are equally large and have plenty details in comparison... i'll see about making a separate pic of it matching the scale, though ^^

Edited by: SeeD IX on 06/10/2005 02:56:32 thats awsome !. i never knew the caldari freighter was that.. fat =P Anyways, its interesting to see that Caldari BS dont differ much compared to their cruisers while the other races have some at least 2x larger than their cruisers. I guess the caldari ones are fat and short. Great work :D
Edit: and YES if they implement those textures sometime.. OMFG that was my main problem with eve! bad textures on larger ships killing their sense of size !

pfft, what else is new ;p
(speaking of new, i've updated the original charts, they now include machariel, sansha battleship and couple of faction frigates/cruisers... the sansha, angel and blood ones, anyway)
re: the ship sizes. i think it's mostly the camera in eve that skews the impressions and makes things look smaller :/ for example, i thought the Bestower on the chart looked really too big compared to other ships... but then i took a Badger II and a Maller, which are supposed to be smaller, and put them side by side Bestower parked in space... it's only when you have your own ship like, 0 metre away from the other, when the size becomes apparent and you really realize that yes, this Bestower thing really is so frickin' huge o.O;;

"The machariel is that big???"
Yup, shocked me too o.o; but then i passed by one couple days ago around Nonni, and even at 5 km or so distance it dwarfed my Crow completely... so i wouldn't be surprised if it turned out really this huge.
Franky: the dreadnaughts and freighters have their default texture applied also as the bump-map, to break up the otherwise too smooth surfaces... for other ships bump maps would be overkill, but the have main colour map applied in diffuse/reflection channels too, which causes the light and reflections render tad bit more natural... i think save for the bump maps Eve game client does the same thing, though ^^

Nice, very nice.
Its a shame the overview scanner doesnÆt reflect the correct sizes of all the ships, i.e. why do all Battleships excluding the Apocalypse appear as 500m when they are a) all different lengths and b) an Iteron V is listed as over 1100m?
It would certainly help with identification when you have a lot of targets

I thought the Crane and Bustard where based on the MK1 and MK2 haul with transport attribs. The 3rd caldari hauler in the pic has a 2nd large cargo section which would make it a MK3?

Probably because it is very reminiscent of the Rebel Medium Transport:
Does the whole *Joey standing and pointing rapidy with both arms while haiving mouth and eyes wide open* thing.
thats where i saw it before! it does rock tho lol. i tihnk eve definatly needs its ships in that picture of all the ST and SW and so on ships tho. tihnk most would be dwarfed tho, since for example. ST and SW ships had hundreds of crew and are still teeny compared to the borg cube and the SW "Fat one". out one man ships would probably be teeny in comparison.

I'm pretty sure the .blue files do some scaling, as the titans seem to be a bit out (unless the amarr one is ment to be twice as big as the rest of them).

Very nice work !
The Amarr frigate to the far right is a Gold/Silver Magnate.
The Caldari battleships should be twice as large in each direction, the devs said back in beta that the models had been exported at the wrong size. Caldari ships in general are the largest along with the Gallente ones with the Amarr being smaller than them and the Minmatar smallest of all.
On that note:
It seems the Thrasher is the wrong size since its larger than all of the cruisers.
The Ferox also seems to be too small, it's barely larger than any of the cruisers, should it be twice as large as well? It seems larger in game.

That'd be Silver/Golden Magnate, limited edition Amarr ship handed out as prize in some events.
(the second 'Executioner' has slightly different shape btw, am guessing it's used for the tech.2 ships, or something... ^^;;

"The Ferox also seems to be too small, it's barely larger than any of the cruisers, should it be twice as large as well? It seems larger in game."
I think Ferox looks small there because Caldari cruisers turn out nearly twice as large as cruisers of other races ^^;; all battlecruisers are of similar size, so that makes the Ferox relatively small when placed next to cruisers of own race.
(sort of explains why Moa and Osprey always felt awfully huge to me... Caracal is thin so it's not that obvious, and Blackbird is smaller than them, but they all could probably use some scaling down o.O;

No no no, they are supposed to be big, look at the gallente ones. The Exequror is larger than any of them. Even the Vexor is as large as the Moa or Osprey. Look at the Maller and Omen too, the Omen is bigger than the Caracel. Don't compare to the minmatar ones, they are supposed to be small, thats why the stabber outruns a lot of frigates. :)

Are you sure the dreadnaughts are that big? And the window sizes on the ships ingame don't fit their scale, i.e. a window on a frigate is huge compared to a window on a battleship. Oh and also CCP: please redo the battleship models - they suck so bad now compared to your sexy new ship models.

??? the image is huge, MS Photoeditor can't even open it!
the reason the labels are small is because the proportions won't allow for larger labels... Unless of course you had battleship sized labels, which would require moving things around to an insane degree...
I'll make an alternate version though, but it won't have frigates most likely, only the largest classes

Diana Merris is right, the cyclone is next to the Typhoon. It looks like the Thrasher has been printed twice though, one correct size (next to the frigs) and one cruiser size (above them)?
Regardless, excellent image and this thread timed perfectly with a discussion about relative ship sizes on our forums

That left-most ship in minmatar frigate row is the faction ship (firetail?) ... Thrasher appears only once, but yes it's pretty big ^^ i'd guess the destroyers were all created together and made to be of similar sizes, resulting in Minmatar destroyer appear big next to the Minmatar cruisers, since their cruisers are smaller than average...

Somebody mentioned that they thought the ships in Eve would be tiny compared to Star Wars or Star Trek ships... heh. Check the scale on the bottom left corner of the Eve size comparison... the Minmatar Dreadnought is *measures with pencil stub..* about 4000 meters tall?
That makes it two and a half times the size of a star destroyer.. and some of our cruisers are comparable to the ships in Trek.

not taking away from your version in the slightest, just wanted to point out a misspelling on Catalyst, it appears to say "Catlyst" in the image.
On a side note, I'm still tinkering with rearranging the entire image to have frigates to one area, cruisers to another and the remaining big ships can then stretch out a bit and that would let me put much bigger labels in than currently possible. Will keep updated.

The Thrasher really is that big. I fly both a Thrasher and a Rupture, and a couple of times when I'm in one and see someone else flying the other, I'll saunter over and do a size comparison. The Thrasher is a fair bit longer than the Ruppie, though not as tall and about the same width. It's a big ship, expecially considering it still has frig sheild/armor/powergrid/cpu levels. **cough**CCPfixthis**cough** I like the Thrasher alot, however.

ok, for our viewers with a desire for larger print
Ship Comparison Chart with big(er) name labels
now keep in mind that the chart is 4096 so even at the 36 point font it's not that big when looking at the whole image, but any larger would make the labels look VERY convoluted next to the ships so I compromised.
I think itÆs plenty big enough to do the job, and provided you arenÆt on a 15 inch monitor, it will likely be big enough for wallpaper and such to be able to read the labels without them interfering with the ships so much that itÆs hard to see them for the text (referring specifically to the already dwarfed frigates compared to their own labels).
If there is call for it, I can go even larger and make the labels visible from low orbit, but IÆll likely cut the frigates out completely or put them to one area in a smaller font while the other, larger, ships get the biggest font.

Vivus, maybe its just me but I think its your hosting shrinking the image. Even when you click to enlarge its only 1600 x 1250.
The other Sansha frigate is called "Sansha frigate 1" as as I know. The Sansha never had actual names before they made them available as faction ships whereas the Angel ships have been named since the beginning. That is to say, named flyable ships exist in the database that use the same models as the Angel ships.

well, sadly, Gigashare being the eternal hemorrhoids they are may be tinkering with the file regardless of its original formatting... I'll investigate alternative means of hosting it in 4096 scale, as indeed Gigashare is cutting the image down to 1600x1250
This is the new link at EVE-files
Ship Chart 4096 With Big Names
from my ôtestingö, they are hosting it at the full 1.6mb, as I canÆt download and directly open it with MS Photo editor as itÆs FAR too large (too many pixels), but Photoshop is ideally suited for such a large image.

"I can't find the barges on the size chart. Have you forgotten them or am I just losing my sight?"
I couldn't really include the barges, for the same reason there's no Amarr and Minmatar shuttle on the chart... rather than being a single model, they're built from a number of separate parts, which is something i can't import directly :/ i'll possibly try to assemble and add them at some point.
In better news, Lee N was extremely nice and kind enough to provide server to put the .png version of the full-size chart, which is up for grabs now here ^^

Just a small note, given the bump ^^;
the .jpg versions and the 2k .png version of the files have been updated since the original post -- dreadnaughts and freighters were missing their windows, and gallente dreadnaught didn't have the fancy colour work details... i've changed the layout tiny bit too, so the pirate faction ships don't look as much an afterthought addition as they actually were >>;

I'm assuming you used Photoshop or something with layers on all of this? If so, do you plan on releasing the layered image OR with the background removed and on a transparency layer so I can add my own background/move ships around a bit without any glitchy editing? I know you can have a transparency on PNGs so it shouldn't be too bad.
Thanks --------
I would love to change the world, but they won't give me the source code. |

Anyone has the link for the comparison someone did to other movies? The one with EVE ships on the left on white and the other ships on the right on black.

We've got the Gallente Mothership for that soon (plus it is reminicent of the Independence Day city destroyers).
So. When are these forums going live in game? |

But how is it possible that titans have smaller volume and not much bigger weight than carriers? Weren't titans suposed to be the biggest mofos in eve. As is shown in picture eve_chart-rmr.jpg, titans are at least 4 times bigger (and assumably heavier) than cruisers. Or is the description "bugged" again :P
from the attribs in item database: -leviathan (Caldari titan): - mass 1800000000 kg - volume 132500000 m3
-wyvern (caldari carrier): - mass 1320000000 kg - volume 530000000 m3 (1000000 m3 packaged)
???
George just lucky i guess ! |

Sadly the ships doesn't look so big in the game ! When i fly a frigate, i do not feel so small in front of a cruiser or a battleship.
