Hello all. I'm making this thread as a sort of trip down memory lane. As well as a history lesson for some of the new dudes around.
The year you started playing eve. What was different then it is now.
Please list only one thing so many others can post as well.
Off the top of my head. It was prob warp to zero. |

No Skill Queue, so you set 2am alarms to wake you up to switch training if a skill fell into the mid point of your next login.
Old style scanning that required different types of probes depending on the type of site you were looking for and was often frustrating.

Kind of empty. Buying cruisers blueprints were quite an investment and only a small minority could afford battleship blueprints.
You could bounce off of things. Stations, gates, ships. For a few days there was even a bug that made you super bounce hundred kilometers away even with the smallest nudge. Corp mate of mine ended up a couple of millions of AU away from everything.
Asteroids grew in size for every day they wasn't mined so in some distant systems you could find enormous sized rocks clipping both each other and warp in points.
Errormessagevaganza. 30-100 modal error messages on your screen and you had to click each and everyone before you could access the UI again.
Warping to a gate you didn't always land in a straight line to the gate. And with three micro warp drives on your ship it took quite some time to turn towards it.
Missiles hitting things on their way to the target. It was nice when you could hide from rats behind a large asteroid. It wasn't as much fun when you accidentally hit friends, cans, gates and stations. Sometimes even yourself since missiles fired forward, and with three micro warp drives on your ship it was faster than the missiles.

Flying from Amarr to Deklien took a big fleet of us 50 or so jumps up through backwater 0.0 systems (nickamed "the Back Passage") and it took a day to do, what with no jump Bridges and no Warp to Zero. It really felt like you were out in the wildlands as you did it, not 20 minutes from Highsec 1.0 as it is now.
Getting that adrenal buzz as you saw the system status read 0.0 for the first time. Everywhere felt new and unexplored...
