Wait a minute... Am I the only one that noticed that the OP wants to get into PvP but is making a ragepost about being ACTIVELY INVOLVED IN PVP? PvP isn't (usually) a couple of honorable dudes taking up pistols at dawn under predefined circumstances. PvP is viscerally tearing at one another until it stops being funny.
Gate camps are part of it. I love gate camps. Gate camps have single handedly lead to almost every one of my fiery deaths (of which there are many), but that is part of the game. When I feel like shooting at people, I load up a cheap frig with cheap mods and fly around the gates in Amamake, because everyone and their dog is looking for a fight there.
If you want PvP, EXPECT PVP. Don't expect people to work to deliver you a fair fight. Expect people to take every opportunity to bone you over, and get good at being the better tactician. Until you get good, fly something like this that you can easily replace many times over. Some fights you will win, many you will lose (speaking from the experience of a mission runner just starting to get into PvP). That's part of the game. That's how it's supposed to go.
For your reference, here are some basic do's and don't's of PvP:
DO: 1. Expect to explode. A lot. 2. Try new things. 3. Take note of what does and doesn't work. 4. Accept defeat graciously; harvest tears from those who don't. 5. Enlist a friend to join you. 6. Ask those who know how you can improve. (Heck, ask the person who killed you what you did wrong. You'd be surprised) 7. When you do explode, think about why it happened (Most recently for me: Actually forgot to fire guns when activating mods. That was hilariously embarrassing.)
DON'T: 1. Fly something you can't replace many times. 2. Expect fights to be fair. 3. Expect a mission boat to work for PvP 4. Try to make fits cap stable. 5. Cry on the forums when you explode. |

for the past 2 days i have been trying to get into a location to try pvp, how the hell am i supposed to enjoy pvp when i can't even get into a location to try it. So don't. You say your corp operates out of Providence. They probably have an office there. You can dock in a station, set your medical clone to an office in providence, try to get past them in just your pod. If they blow up your pod you'll land where you were already trying to get to.... Frankly, it's really impossible to do anything like "pvp" with guys who camp high/low-sec gates for a living. They know their game well, they'll have you scouted well in advance of you jumping and if they can take you, you're going to die. However, despite the fact that they're all red and flashy and have macho sounding epeen in local chat, most of the low-sec choke hold campers are incredibly risk averse. If they have any doubts about whether or not they can take you then they'll scatter like cockroaches in the light and hide in a safe spot (or dock up to be really really REALLY safe like the ones in Rancer do) and suck their thumbs while you go past. They may try to smack talk in local chat while you're in their system but I can never understand what they're talking about with their thumbs in their mouths. In any case, they will never EVER engage on anything but a sure win... Which points to the 2nd way you can get past them. Enter with a fleet. They'll run. guaranteed. the real issue will start if they don't run. it then means they HAVE (or think they have) enought reinforcement, somewhere, to take your fleet.
as you said, they are risk adverse, so the moment they look for the fight, you know what to expect! |

As a rule of thumb: the more roundaround the way you take, the less the chance for gate camp. Also going in right after downtime, right before downtime or very early in the morning will minimize chance you get screwed. And ofc, cloak > camp (usually, good ones can still get you, but chance is much lower) |

Bingo. Come legitimately asking for advice, and you will find it (along with some trolling, but that's a given regardless). Come whining about how you can't PvP because other people keep blowing you up will get you mocked, and rightfully so.
It's all about attitude.

Well I don't know if this will help you but this is what me and a friend did just yesterday and mind you this was my first pvp experience. I consider it one of the most fun times even though I wasnt able to kill anyone. We basically bought a stack of merlins and shitfitted them with t1 gear, set a route from our high sec hub to another high sec system whle changing the star map settings to allow LS entry.
We basically knew we were going to lose the ships and didnt care much for it cause they were cheap and replacable however from simply going system to system I learned hoe to narrow down targets using the d-scanner and system map browser open. What endedup happening was that we engaged a nemesis that was used bait and upon engaging we got jumped by a t2 cruiser gang. Suprisingly they tried to ransom our t1 merlins... I pretty much said f*** off and proceeded to mutilate their t2 drones (couldnt really do any damage cause of their tank) and got blown up. It was a great experienc and I am looking forward to more pvp.
What I'm trying to say is that you have to not care about dying first and make sure you can replace your ship and that's when you'llstart to learn what and who to engage!
Just imo... Good luck! |

So you jumped into a system and got killed by other players.
Hi, you just PvP-ed... and you lost.
This is nothing more than a whine thread about you losing a ship and not being able to deal with a simple gate-camp. Stay in high-sec dude.

First thing you should do to try and pick up PVP is join a PVP corporation or a corporation that will teach PVP to you.
EVE Uni is good if you are totally new to the game.
Red vs Blue is a classic and still going strong. I haven't met a single person who's tried it and regretted it. Some people create separate characters just for RvB
Faction Warfare is good if you don't mind hurting your standings with some parts of Empire Space.
Or you could try one of the many wonderful PVP corporations out there. My corp is pretty proficient :) but this isn't a recruitment thread, do research and find which corps would be good for you. Even if you just want to solo, joining anyone one of the listed groups will provide you with help should you need it as well as good locations and targets for PVP. The best part is they will teach you a thing or two on the way. Watch Fred Fred Frederation and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it! |

There is also an art to not dying to them in your hound. 1. Use your jump cloak timer to evaluate the situation. 2a. If there is no dictor/hictor on the gate, you can probably hit warp to a celestial, and cloak away. 2b. If there is one dictor, and not too much really fast tackle, look for celestial that you can align at, that will also quickly take you away from the gate, hit align, hit MWD, hit cloak. DO NOT HIT WARP until you are out of the initial bubble, then spam it. 2c. If there are multiple dictors, a large anchored bubble, or tons of fast tackle, approach gate, overload MWD, cloak, spam jump and pray. 3. Odds are good your still alive unless it was a massive camp, though sometimes luck is just against you.
Best method for dealing with a gate camp: 1. Warp totally inconspicuous ferox to gate 2. Perform cyno checklist 3. Jump through, point the most expensive ship (s) on field, light cyno 4. Profit |

Actually you can hit cloak and then MWD. You will get one cycle of MWD before it switches off. If you want to crash the gate try this: wait out the session change timer, right click the stargate, select "set waypoint as", overload MWD, switch on AP and then MWD. You should auto-jump as soon as in range.
Dual sensor boosting HICs (or remote boosted) with a focussed point should be able to catch pretty much everything trying to warp away; if they're paying attention. |

To OP - If you plan on playing by yourself on one account AND you are committed to going through the same gate - here is what I would do. Get your main character into the system, go ahead and log off at that lowsec gate. Create an alternate character. Log on with said character, fly to the system you want to be in (with a rookie ship)
On the highsec side of that gate, have your newb alt spend 1/2 his starting isk to move his clone in system. Fly to the lowsec gate. Jump through. If there's a gate camp, go grab a coke and wait for your ship to wake up next door. Watch some T.V. keep losing free newbie ships, and pods at no cost until you are fairly certain there is no gate camp there.
Log your main back on, jump through said gate. congratulations, you are now in Lowsec and can plan on getting blobbed in a plex or jumped at a celestial. Enjoy.
To Jane - great attitude, I generally assume I'm going to lose my ship as well - because it's really a little more fun that way.
Edit: If your going to make an alt for this purpose; I would suggest making the name something funny. At least let the campers have a laugh. My favorite are variations are 'not NPC scout,' 'pod pinatta,' or 'free candy inside.' |

I don't get this post at all.
OP wants to PVP in EVE, gets killed at a gate camp, and complains about it?
OP....that was PVP in EVE. All the stuff you see in the techno laden Youtube videos are the highlights reels of people's PVP. They're good videos because those fights aren't normal! Next time you see one go check the same guy's killboard. I guarantee you you'll see them losing tons of ships in 1 vs. 10 scenarios (aka Gatecamps, Friends in the Next System, Logged on Alts, etc.)
Getting your face smashed in IS solo pvp in EVE. It's why the fights where that doesn't happen are so awesome even if you lose.
Go buy some poor-fit T1 ships and lose them. That's PVP. I know sometimes it's difficult to realize just how much you spend on incidental things each month or year, but seriously, EVE is very cheap entertainment compared to most things... If you are a smoker, smoke one less pack a week and pay for EVE, with money left over to pick up a cheap bundle of flowers for the EVE widow upstairs. |
