Congratulations to the community for waking up CCP and making the CEO recognize that he/they were headed down the wrong path. Unfortunately, it is not until it hits their wallets and they see subcribers drop that they start paying attention. Perhaps they believed, wrongly, that the protesters, the people cancelling accounts, the outrage, and the raging forums posts would eventually dissipate and dissapear. That account subscriptions would have remained stable or dip slightly, and then start to grow again. That was not the case.
So you crazy guys shooting at a statue in Jita for weeks, I call you the Occupy CCP guys!
As a subscriber to this game since day one, and a tester since the beta days, Im glad that perhaps this game will continue to thrive and the refocus will bring about new gameplay we can once again be excited about.
Good luck to us all. |

CCP has my full confidence that they'll screw this up again. Laying off the community team is the first step in this process |

You know you don't congratulate people when about 120 people lost there jobs.
EVE Online maker CCP has announced it will be reducing its staff of over 600 by roughly 20 percent as part of a "realignment" away from long-in-development MMO World of Darkness. |

120 lost their jobs for the mismanagement of the company, their IP, and spreading their resources thin. The blame falls entirely on the boss not the community. The players main concern is the for the game to survive. No EVE, NO CCP, MANY more people without jobs. |

They lost their jobs because CCP was being run buy fools drunk on ego.
Congrats are in fact in order for getting them to change direction and showing them they cannot just abuse us.
But we know that this latest move was ill thought out in some aspects.

Actually it is about the attitude of the community on this forum. People are happy about others losing there jobs. Sorry but that is pathetic, and sad and you all talk about losing respect for CCP well after some of the posts I have seen today. This community doesn't deserve a thread of respect either. |

The sad Part is. Those 'fools drunk on ego will continue to have a job and the poor Devs that were never allocated enough resources to begin with get to pay the ultimate price. Sad really. |

CCP was not always mismanaged. They were able to inspire people to play and stay since 2003. They lost their way, people are allowed to make mistakes, and we hope they learn their lesson. If that is not the case, I will personally look for greener pastures.
I don't agree with you that this is a horrible, failing game but I will ask you, "CAN I HAVE YOUR STUFF?"

Telling them what product we want to buy is not abusing them.
Its how business works mate.
They are supposed to meet the demand. Not tell us what they want to sell us and we have to like it. |

Sorry mate, tbh, i do not care for the jobs, yeah CCP DEVs are awesome weeheeee, but i love EVE and not CCP and if it takes 120 jobs to save EVE so be it.
it may sound harsh but srsly this is how it works.

Why was it ill thought out? Seems like business common sense to me. If you allocated staffing to project B (WoD/DUST) then you say "we're going to focus on project A (EVE) for the forseeable future", you no longer really need the staffing for project B and to just keep them around is unnecessary overhead. Yes it sucks but they are running a business and you just dont keep people around for the sake of keeping people around in a business (Looking at you United States Postal Service, although to be fair, government employment is under a different set of rules and regs).
I know people are up in arms about Fallout and all (and rightfully so), but if most of his job description was working on WoD and Dust, and CCP just pulled the reins in on both of those projects, unless he can do something else that no one else in CCP can do (Community Rep), then again, you're just keeping staff around for the sake of keeping them around - it's unnecassry cost and it's something that no CEO/CFO/COO wants on their quarterly/annual P & L's.
Again, Im not saying that I agree with what CCP has done and I am congnizant of what this does to those affected, espeically here in the US, but I understand CCP's decision. Companies do things like this all the time.. |

This is a privately owned company. We are stuck with the head guys and there is nothing we can do other than to vote with our money. I'm not personally happy that anyone lost their job. Unfortunately, people will suffer real life consequenses when they make mistakes with their virtual world. |

I'm afraid it's the beginning of the end: now I see even less reasons for people to have multiple long term subscriptions because potential bankruptcy means characters cannot be resold later and subscriptions cannot be considered as safe investment anymore. |

So how come the sheeplike actions of hotheads IN game cause such real reactions OUT of game.
Must be a few Eve dicks feeling real proud right now...

Don't be ridiculous. Hilmar admitted it was mainly his fault in his devblog. This is all the result of what Hilmar (and whoever supported him in the company) did.
The players just behaved rationally in a) expressing their displeasure at Hilmar's direction, and b) voting with their feet, in the only way he would understand (as he himself stated in the leaked email).
You should feel ******* proud that you're playing in a game with other players who aren't such addicted twats that they'll swallow anything developers throw at them (which is what Hilmar expected, as implied in his leaked email). |

While it's sad 120 people lost their jobs, it was obvious CCP was overextended.
The truth is that Dust could fail, and if it does fail, will it bankrupt CCP? If CCP was developing WoD, Eve, and Dust at the same time, one of the projects nosediving could put the other 2 in serious jeopardy. I'm happy that CCP is now only (mainly) focusing on a single side project. |

And this is new on this community how? If you really played EVE you should know what to expect out of this place, being shocked at the callousness, trollage, flaming and other shenanigans that are rampant here since DAY 1 you should take it as "usual business".
Does that make it more or less wrong? Not the point, if we , or at least I wanted a moral busybody on a forum I would go post on another kind of forums more appropriate to such endeavors. Your shocked answer only reveals naivete and to be honest, I find it insulting.
OP was just glad that the masses spoke with the only pitchfork at their disposal, WALLETS. I am proud to have been one of the many voices during the protest and to have spread dissent across all kinds of media at my disposal. A campaing I carried to extreme extents and for which I am proud, for many reasons not worth posting here.
People lost Jobs, yes, evil and sad, but you should be appaled is at how these lost Job could have been kept if CCP itself decided to have taken a more IN TOUCH path with their game. Community Reps that got sacked are the direct result of the upper managements FAILURES. No one here is happy to have seen them go. I for one will miss them a lot, yet you pretending to keep or impose a "only you can perceive" sense of propriety here is so misguided to be honest I'm appalled by you.
But all in all, this is eve, HTFU.

Usually when a company lays off workers, the ones to go first are the ones who rocked the boat. Doesn't matter if they are the best in their career field, if they didn't kiss the big boss butt, then they were on the first train leaving the station.
Hope you understand what that means.
The Community had showed great displeasure with NEX, CQ, Incarna, etc and total dislike with CCP's CEO (no need to name). During that time, I'm sure the Liaisons (GM's) were told by the big boss man to do certain things, like start locking threads, don't answer questions, etc which the Liaison Figureheads probably did with vocal reluctance. Then came the big PR Control push (GM and DEV alts posting?) followed by The Infamous Letter. Obviously thinking that everything is ok now after letting some time pass, the big boss man now needs to make some cut backs due to lost revenue. In order to justify his own failed judgement and inept actions while setting an example to other employees, those figureheads are now turned into scapegoats and are included with the reduction of work force.
The last thing to do is get rid of your PR department. Without them, you completely lose all respect from the community.
This just shakes up the already strained relationship between CCP and the Eve Community even more. I'm sorry but this is the wrong move for CCP to do at this point in time. Before a company should lay off or fire a mass amount of employees, they should do some wage reduction and limit workers to 40 hr work weeks, then drop to part time work hrs before actually deleting the work force.
The main problem or reason for the whole original issue still exists. I know I sure as hell didn't vote for our CCP Liaisons to be removed, replaced, temp layed off or fired.
Anyway, I'm tired and I think I'll go ingame and see if there's any protesting being done about this latest piece of CCP manure.
