Looking at the little icon for the Moa before buying it, I thought it looked cool. I thought it has 2 symetrical engine/wings comming off the sides.
When I actually get into the thing I realize it is an a** ugly hunk of metal with various parts sticking out of different places with NO, NO atempt at aesthetics.
I wouldn't usually pitch a fit over something like this, but isn't much of the fun getting a new ship enjoying the actual look of your new baby? Looking at what I have to come, ALL the Caldari ships are basically frankenstien monsters (I loved the Merlin however...SYMMETRY IS YOUR FRIEND CCP)!
Time to start studying up on Gallente.

In my opinion most Caldari ships are the best looking ships in the game - bar none.
Do you like fish sticks? I hate them. Who's wrong?
No one.

When I first got the moa, I loved the look of it (but now I do think it's kinda ugly, but only because of the side bits and the fact that they are much too....something (can;'t think of a word)

The look of the moa is most definitely an acquired taste. It takes a while to get used to it but after you do most other ships looks bleak in comparison.
But if you want symmetry try the ferox, it's not 100% symmetrical but close enough.

caldari ships are not ugly, its just the moa that is the ugly duckling. They should remove that 'neck with*****pit', put something like an extended bridge to the left side and it will look fine.

Im very disappointed with this community's obsession with symmetry. Go play some Freelancer if you want boring ship designs!

I think all the caldari ships look ugly. Even more of them look ugly when you add weaponry to them because of ccp's locationing of the hardpoints. Best example of this was the Cormorant. I got so sick of the look of that ship that I ended up learning Gallante frigate 4 so I could use the much nicer looking gallante ships, and this was before the missile patch too. Now i am ever so glad i switched. I rarely used missiles before the patch, so Gallante ships seemed to appeal to me, and after wards i didnt have to lose offensive capabilities. plus, the gallante ships look so much better than caldari ships. only exception is the incursus, with is sharp pointy stick in the front.

Unfortunatly the designes for most of the ships in the original game are asymetrical in some weird way that doesn't make any sense.
There are some that are cool, like the Tristan, Caelestis, Omen and so on, but others are just plain stupid.
Why would anyone design a ship like the Exequror for example. Now it's a cool looking ship, but why does it have four completly different engines? All you would accomplish by that is making the ship incredibly pricy to maintain and manufacture since there wouldn't be any standart parts, and on top of that, the thurst the ship could generate is not even properly distributed, if an Exequror would give full thrust on all engines, assuming the strength of the engine is proportional to its size it would basicly just spin around realy fast in a left upward motion.

Theres no way that CCP can make all of us happy with these models, not all of us like shining and 100% symmetric you know. I think its good that CCP made all 4 races ships so different from each others, now there should something for everyone.
Btw Typhoon for the win \o/

Why aren't we flying space debris with some engines on it? Why is the Sac so ugly with the HUGE engines? Why is it so slow then? Does it make sence? No, it shouldn't.
If logical means we have to fly black bricks I rather stick to EVE ships.
Hm, am I the only one who thinks all Gallenteships are ugly bar the Ishtar?

You probably are... and besides... minmatar cant have much taste in ships... look at what they fly... they make caldari ships look decent.

Agreed.....the Caracal looks like some shrivelled up insect.
Im flying around in a Rifter now wondering if I can fit it out for level 2 and maybe 3 missions hehe. The Rifter is a pimped out hotrod.
Training up Gallente so I can fly a respectable looking Cruiser...THORAX!

Aw, you don't like the "4 guys playing Tetris while 1 guy designs the ship" look? I like the Amarr designs personally - very shiny.
Also, Shen Molo, I get the vibe that you enjoy the Ender's Game series? --------

agreed! caldari ships are the most ugly thing in the world. merlin would probably look the best mainly because its symetric. raven is just an eye sore and the caldari navy one looks just as bad as the 1st.! if you were to make them white instead of black and have a few radars on the scorpion or something!i think more people would have pride in them! the megathron is the perfect example! and that is all curved and rounded off. none of theese sharp pockey bits sticking out. i think you should change the looks on the minmatar ships too, they look horible and before people start saying well its diffrent peoples tastes, have a vote so ccp can see where the majority stands!
thanks for reading manchester united's best ever fan!

If symmetry is your thing, go Amarr. Gallente are notorious for either looking like poo (Dominix), a giant tuning fork (Megathron), or some other asymmetrical design. Just look at the Atron. . .I call 'em the One-Armed Bandits, 'cause that's what they have sticking out.
Personally, I like the Caldari ship designs, they look more utilitarian than the Minmatar tool-box or trash heap inspired ships.
A spaceship doesn't have to be symmetrical to fly, keep that in mind, it doesn't have to deal with atmospheric physics to stay aloft. If you want symmetry, stay in a merlin or Caracal. The Moa's a sexy beast, and appreciation for a ship shouldn't revolve around asthetics. I've flown some ugly ships, and the more I fly them, the more I love 'em, and the look grows on me.
If you're going to learn a new race's ships just because of asthetics, heh, you're going to be hurting yourself in the long run.

I think most of the Caldari ships do instead look ugly. I'm not against asymetrical designs; but Caldari ships are just whack. What I DO like though is the Charon though; it looks utilitarian, and really I think it's how a freighter should look.

If you want beauty I'd go with the recently designed ships like destroyers and battlecruisers because they have an obvious superior model compared to the older funky ships which were designed back in the days when CCP had a meth-lab in their 'office'.
Alternately you could get used to it like most of us have..

You know, all Caldari ships were designed with function not form in mind. Who gives a rip what you look like, as long as you own everyone else into the dirt. At least...that's what the storyline implies :/

its not just you mate. Caldari ships in general get teased about their.. asymmetrical appearance. With wingdings and engines pokin out here and there, with no apparent adherence to elegant design, form follow function, or basic engineering principles such as centre of gravity/ centre of thrust placement. The griffin is just an abomination. I dont see the shame in wanting to fly something sexy looking - something which appeals to your imagination like the first time you saw a mustang at an air show. Chromy sleek dangerous looking.. Like a hawk poised to strike. It looked dangerous and fast because thats what it did. Along similar lines, you wanna have a bit of pride about your ship. And you get stuck with the most ungainly contraption conceived by man with a fat ass, mangled limbs, and haphazzard functions that look like chaotic decorations. I am convinced that asymmetrical appearances are hardwired in to our brains as 'ugly'. It almost seems like an unviolable law of nature or something. Looking at caldari ships just screws with my head sometimes.
The raven and condor hulls look pretty good. Actually, if the condor hull had one of its 'wings' straightened up a little it would look bloody perfect. But then again, the odd twist here and there gives originality.
Minmatar are butt ugly. But its a good ugly. Like a bad ass, rough, durable type of ugly. So im pretty impressed at how they look.
I reckon the best looking ships in eve are rifter hull, executioner hull, mammoth, punisher, thorax, and kestrel hull. They all look well balanced, and you just gotta look at their shape to see that they are following their function. They either look dangerous, high performance, mighty, or vast.
